Patriots should absolutely pick a CB or OT at 14

The vast majority of NFL teams likely disagree with you about 46 being too high for him. Drop numbers without context are meaningless. How many of those drops were due to poor throws by mediocre to bad quarterbacks with poor accuracy? what was the reason for most of his drops and is that correctable? I’m asking, because I don’t know that question but somebody here who follows BC football or who has watched a lot of all-22 films of BC games may.

4.42 isn’t fast??

How did you feel about Edelman during his Patriots career, because he was often near the top of the league in dropped passes?
It's not blazing, no, and he's got T-Rex arms on a Velociraptor body.
He could be great, as with almost anyone drafted high, but 5'8/5'9 doesn't scream high pick to me.

They don't count either... Peppers isn't a CB, JoJo's a Slot CB, and Mills is backup-caliber... And they were already in the building anyway.

Adjusted my previous post to include the word New.
Of course they count.

At 14 -

Plan A: LT Broderick Jones or Paris Johnson

Plan B: CB Christian Gonzalez or JPorterJr... I would include Devon Witherspoon, but I don't know if he can stay outside in the NFL.

If none of those 4/5 are available then it's Trade-Down Time.

Plan A, after trade-down: Oklahoma LT Anton Harrison

Plan B: WR JSN, Quentin Johnston or Zay Flowers (ahead of Jordan Addison), unless Jeudy has been acquired by then.

Dark Horses: TE Darnell Washington (ahead of Kincaid and Way Ahead of Mayer) and DE Lukas Van Ness.

Just Say Nyet to ANY DTs, LBs, Safeties, RBs & QBs with our first pick.

I'm out on Quentin Johnston. I think there's real chance he's N'Keal Harry 2.0.

I think this is off the table with the Gesicki signing. But I like it.

I love this but Johnston should be gone by #14. Do you like Flowers more than Addison or do you just think Flowers is the better fit for our offense?

I think he might be more talented than N'Keal (I'm talking the version of N'Keal that came out of college and still had potential), but I agree that he's the type of WR that this offense has never really known how to utilize properly. Philosophically, they don't like contested catch guys, and they already have one they're not using well (yet) in Parker.

I thought it was all Matty P's fault.

Look, if Mac is the guy, he ought to be able to make the current crew work with the help of BoB.

They certainly didn’t do Jones any favors with Patricia and Judge coaching him, but their receivers are still lacking. I think they need to make their decision on Jones this year, and they need to give him the skill players to accurately gauge whether her to keep him or move on.

I don’t know what you read but he is a fast riser on the big boards i looked ibto
On some simulators I saw he ranked top 15
He is a very athletic guy, versatile, strong with great size (length and weight combo here) so I understand them love from draftniks
He is still a bit raw due to inexperience but the ceiling seems very high because things you can’t teach are there with van ness

I did dig deeper to find out more, and see some high rankings. Seems like he has high boom or bust potential. The guy could be the next JJ Watt. He could be the next Germaine Cunningham too.

I respect Sam Palazalo and Sam Munson from PFF in their opinion. They still have him ranked high, but they don't think his contested catch ability is all that good.

What Bill does with the draft/rest of the off-season is the most important to Mac Jones as this a one year try out for him. Bill will have the deadline next off-season to pick up his 5th year option at $30M.

Pats have a dire need at OT and WR on offense.

Defensively is at CB, MLB, and FS.

I don't think they view the WR situation as dire as posters do here. I would not be surprised if they opened camp with this veteran group and 1-2 draftees or UDFAs. The pass catching room looks very much typical for Foxboro currently, if you consider Juju and Geiseki an upgrade over their predecessors. Especially considering it's 3/27. Add a pass catching RB and they'll open camp better than 2022.

Washington would play a role complementary to Gesicki's here, not redundant to it.

A little of both... Not thrilled with either in the first round really, especially compared to JSN.

I think Johnston has a lot more YAC potential on the short-intermediate routes than Kneal, Harry ever showed... He's not just a jump-ball specialist; he likes running with the ball in his hands, and can make defenders miss when he does.

He & JSN (#1) are my top 2 WRs for this team, easily.

two things i want to add about van ness
he lined up at 3T and 5T in run defense /pass rush situations and was involved in stunts etc. which makes him a great fit for our d-line imo.
He also blocked a punt and we all know how much BB loves ST

Bill will draft another WR by round 3. On a weekly basis, announcers doing the Pats games were saying nobody on the Pats offense scares D coordinators. You know they were getting this soundbite by opposing coaches when doing interviews before the games. Even former Pats players say the same thing and analysts say they need more chunk plays downfield. Bill has got to realize this by now that teams welcome the Pats 15+ play drive as someone will eventually mess up.

I can see a TE since both guys are only signed for one year. I could see drafting someone promising, then resigning the best of the two current guys plus the draft pick with a year under his belt for the following year.

Those 15+ plays only worked with the GOAT #12 hey BB he's officially retired if you haven't noticed.

I think your 'by round 3' thought is accurate. I could care less what the talking heads say. To your point, I think they are better than they were at the end of 2022. I would love to see QT, JSN or Addison here, but I think they have some other big holes. Let's get back to having the best corner on the field and the ability to take away one side of the field or the best receiver, depending on how you want to word it. Let's shore up OT, let's get meaner in the middle on D.

Then where's our new free agent Outside CBs & Left Tackles? Re-signing JoJo (Slot) & signing Reilly Reiff (Sucks) does Not count.
I said "trying"...
- RT: we ended last season pretty stable with McDermott, and we've added a couple of guys. Still not great but not a 3-alarm blaze
- LT: they probably feel ok with Trent. Deep draft at T, so good opportunity to improve left and right.
- CB: at the moment we have Mills, Jack Jones, and Jon Jones, who were our best corners last year, and the draft is deep at CB too

We made several moves to retain the defense, improved a little at WR, improved at RB, improved a lot at TE, picked up a punter.

Mills is going to play safety, so currently they have the Jones trio at cornerback. You forgot Marcus.
