Patriots currently projected to finish last in AFC East in 2023 by Vegas

I am hoping that they offer Mac to the Raiders for 2nd and 4th. The raiders are most likely going to miss out on a QB this year unless they give a kings ransom to move up.
Then we need a QB.

Then we need a

Wouldn’t be opposed to a Mayfield prove it deal or something like that. I don’t see the Pats contending for at least another 2-3 years. They definitely aren’t top 7 in the AFC right now.

IMO don’t see Mac as the QB of the future here.

Don’t see how they can get better with FA, trade and the draft that would be in the conversation for top 7 in the afc.
We were in the conversation for the top 7 in 2022. To STAY in the conversation, we need to

1) Improve our play-calling, and QB coaching
2) Improve our OL coaching
3) sign a #1 or #2 WR (Bourne could be our slot receiver)
4) Draft an LT in the first, or sign a top OT in free agency
5) Re-sign or replace Jonathan Jones
6) Re-sign or replace Peppers.
BOTTOM LINE: re-sign or replace: Wynn, Patricia, Meyers, Jones, and Peppers.
===============================
I think that we will do more, and therefore be in the conversation for the playoffs.

Patriots have dumped some dead weight already and as long as they don’t replace it with more dead weight they’ll improve through osmosis.

If Jets land Rogers I think it’s fair to say the Patriots are a last place team

Sounds like Mayfield could be Tampa bound. I think Mac will get his prove it opportunity this season. If he isn’t better then they’ll move on.

Jalen Ramsey to dolphins.
If Rogers goes to jets, Vegas will be correct
A division has never been decided before free agency and the draft…
The Dolphins just went out & got Ramsey for a 3rd & a backup TE Hunter Long

Tip of the cap to the dolphins, we should have done this.
I heard that Ramsey chose where he wanted to go and he’s from south Florida. Don’t think the Pats ever had a shot at him.

I’m warming up to trading down and drafting Herndon Hooker.

You mean trading back?
I think he is a projected 2nd round talent by the reviews, but you never know.

Good talent for 2nd round

You say that, but then we don’t have a QB. For all the people who want to put everything on Zappe, the better option is to see who they put around Mac and how he fares while still having Zappe behind him. If Mac falters and Zappe surpasses him, you at least have Mac - a guy who has won in this league - as the backup . If you only have Zappe, and he gets hurt, they’re in trouble.

A 2nd and a 4th isn’t ridiculous enough for that risk. A first rounder is at least enticing. Otherwise, you’re getting two decent picks while still potentially creating another problem. They have the luxury of time with Zappe while Mac is in a year where he has to play well or it will potentially close the door on his time here.

Needless to say, let that one play out and you’ll get your answer either way. But making that move is just too big of a gamble. Or at least that’s my $.02.

I love the talk about Hooker. As a UT fan, I watched him all season. His accuracy dramatically improved this year over last year, hated to see him go down this year. Would love to see him in a Pats uniform, his Leadership was amazing even after he got hurt. He was on the field in crutches coaching Milton, really showed me a lot.

Either way, he’s what they have right now. Until a better option emerges - and keep in mind, as we saw with Brady, they’ll keep drafting QBs - you still need someone competent lining up under center on Sundays.

Right now, Mac and Zappe combined cost them less than one free agent. Barring someone offering something nuts, no reason to make a move until they have to.

Vegas isn't usually that far off the mark
It's not like the house is analyzing anything.

The house just balances the money coming in so they reduce their risk and make money on the fees.

So Pats being 6:1 to win the AFCE just means for every dollar bet on the odds being worse than 6:1 there's another dollar bet on the odds being better than 6:1.

Think of it as an opinion poll that costs money to enter.

It doesn't say much if anything about the other teams in the AFCE, because those are a different pool of betters.

Got a crystal ball, do you?

He probably isn't, but he was absolutely screwed over by Bill in 2022. And now he has to pay for it as he is under pressure to have a good year so the Pats pick up his 5th year option. I would've liked to see someone more creative than Bill O'Brien, but it's better than nothing. I'd also like to see better talent surrounding Mac. Many people on here downplay how bad the talent around him really is.

They had a great draft and offseason the past two years. Last season hiring Patricia to run the offense was a massive error on Bill's part, but talent wasn't the problem.
You know, this forum used to make fun of the teams who bragged about having "great offseasons".... Lord, how far we've fallen.....

New England is +6000, or 60-to-1, to win the Super Bowl next season at BetMGM. That's tied for 22nd best odds. The Patriots are also picked to finish last in the AFC East by the oddsmakers. Here are the divisional odds at BetMGM:

Bills +100

Jets +250

Dolphins +450

Patriots +600

I guess the rebuild is not going so well. Bill needs to step it up. His work as GM is negatively impacting the on field product. His conservative risk free approach is hurting the team. It would definitely help if he would hire an experienced GM to work alongside him, but maybe his ego prevents that. I hope he makes some impactful trades and UFA moves...but recent history does not give cause for optimism.
Also better come away with a top-shelf LT or RT, CB and WR from in the next 2 months...or they could be a cellar dweller for a while.

Well I don't enjoy saying this. But at this stage in the offseason, Vegas and the oddsmakers don't look wrong.

We don't have a #1 WR and we don't have a franchise left tackle either. Patriots still need to upgrade those positions regardless even if Mac doesn't turn out to be 'the guy'.

If the Patriots do finish 4th I believe it’s the end of the road for BB here. For better or worse.

I don’t think we will.

Nobody is bragging.

Stating a fact, they have had good offseason's of late and need another one this year if they want to compete.

Hiring Bill O'Brien fixed the single largest issue with this team and the thing that kept them from being competitive last season.
