The Patriots wasted little time after last night's win over the Giants, cutting two tight ends from the roster.
According to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin, the Patriots cut Jake Ballard today, which is somewhat of a surprise considering the promise he had shown before suffering the knee injury last year. Unfortunately he's struggled in camp and has looked hobbled at times and hasn't been himself, and he really never was able to settle in.
Joining him, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, is Daniel Fells, who now with their removal cuts the Patriots down to three tight ends. Rapoport points out Fells signed a 3-year deal worth $5.25 million last year.
As it stands right now the Patriots appear set to go with tight ends Rob Gronkowski (whenever he's ready to go), Michael Hoomanaui, and Zach Sudfeld.
