I think the reason for testing these guys is their overall explosiveness. Typically a great 40, a great vertical, a great long jump, and great 3 cone, if you were great at all four, most likely you’d be a very explosive athlete. If it translates to the field is up to the athlete. But it is a good indicator. DK Metcalf is a good example. You're confusing underwear speed for game speed.

It is beginning to become pretty evident that if one of Gonzalez, Witherspoon, and Skoronski aren't there at 14 it's trade down time.
Addison with a 4.55. Ouch.
You are consistent. You repeatedly post the most obvious stuff as if you have a deep understanding. What was Edelman's time? What was Welkers?
Worry about the QUICKNESS and Game Speed.
Imagine if he had converted 0.2% more. You think Josh McDaniels will Draft another Florida QB? At least Tebow completed 66.4% of his passes in 995 attempts in Florida.
Here is what Lazar posted about Addison today. You care about the Pats, please try to understand and learn from others. Your football acumen is limited. What was Edelman's time? What was Welkers?

Edelman was a 7th-rounder. But the league whiffed on Welker. Somewhat ironically, the Pats got the QB that Welker helped shine (Kliff Kingsbury). You are consistent. You repeatedly post the most obvious stuff as if you have a deep understanding.
Edelman and Welker were never outside receivers and Addison was used in college primarily as an outside guy. Outside guys need speed at the next level. Addison is still a great receiver but he will drop with his weak 40 time. No-one will draft Addison in the first half of R1 to convert to a slot receiver. Welker and Edelman were UDFAs.
Thanks. 7th rounder or UDFA, my point is the same - slot quick receivers are not 1st rounders, outside fast field stretchers are. Addison's average 40 time today cost him some dough but he will still be a first rounder.Edelman was a 7th-rounder. But the league whiffed on Welker. Rice was not a field stretcher and played in a different era. There are always a few exceptions. Statistically how you "run in a straight line in your underwear" is important for a field stretcher. That is why the combine has that test and everyone covers it. Look at the vast majority of success stories, not the few exceptions. The draft is about stats because athleticism wins the majority of the time in the NFL.Antonio Brown 40 time 4.57
D'Andre Hopkins 4.57
Jerry Rice 4.71
Its not all about how fast you can run in a straight line in your underwear
