2023 NFL Combine Thread

Waiting until the U disappears before I pass judgment.

You're confusing underwear speed for game speed.
I think the reason for testing these guys is their overall explosiveness. Typically a great 40, a great vertical, a great long jump, and great 3 cone, if you were great at all four, most likely you’d be a very explosive athlete. If it translates to the field is up to the athlete. But it is a good indicator. DK Metcalf is a good example.

Wasn't DK's 3cone atrocious? That was the concern that saw him drop?

Geez, 6’7 275 pound TE Darnell Washington from Georgia just ran a 4.65. Zach Kuntz, another 6’7” TE ran a 4.61 !

Holy cow, Kuntz ran a 4.55 on his 2nd run.

TE's look good in field drills too, most have good speed, Mayer slowwwwww

It is beginning to become pretty evident that if one of Gonzalez, Witherspoon, and Skoronski aren't there at 14 it's trade down time.

Problem is, the rest of the league can see it as well, could be hard to find a trade parter willing to give up something worth while.

Jordan Battle or Sydney Brown nailed on for the Pats in the 2nd IMO

What was Edelman's time? What was Welkers?
Worry about the QUICKNESS and Game Speed.
You are consistent. You repeatedly post the most obvious stuff as if you have a deep understanding.

Edelman and Welker were never outside receivers and Addison was used in college primarily as an outside guy. Outside guys need speed at the next level. Addison is still a great receiver but he will drop with his weak 40 time. No-one will draft Addison in the first half of R1 to convert to a slot receiver. Welker and Edelman were UDFAs. There is a huge difference between an outside and slot receiver.

Underwear speed and game speed are not the same - no **** Sherlock. Stop posting obvious stuff like you are insightful. Try to play nicely with others.

Jordan Addison officially at 4.49. He measured smaller than previously listed though at 5’11, 173.

Say Flowers at 4.42 is fine for a wide receiver. He put on weight so that might have affected him. He basically has the size (5’9”, 182 lbs) and 40 time as Steve Smith.

Here is what Lazar posted about Addison today. You care about the Pats, please try to understand and learn from others. Your football acumen is limited.

2. USC WR Jordan Addison Presents Another Tape vs. Athletic Testing Conundrum
Every draft season has a handful of prospects with great film and production, but their athletic testing falls short of where they're projected to go in April. Addison is the most recent example after posting a pedestrian 5.92 relative athletic score of ten, with okay explosiveness and an above-average 40-yard dash (4.49) at 5-11, 171 pounds.

Edelman was a 7th-rounder. But the league whiffed on Welker. Somewhat ironically, the Pats got the QB that Welker helped shine (Kliff Kingsbury).

Thanks. 7th rounder or UDFA, my point is the same - slot quick receivers are not 1st rounders, outside fast field stretchers are. Addison's average 40 time today cost him some dough but he will still be a first rounder.

Antonio Brown 40 time 4.57
D'Andre Hopkins 4.57
Jerry Rice 4.71

Its not all about how fast you can run in a straight line in your underwear

Rice was not a field stretcher and played in a different era. There are always a few exceptions. Statistically how you "run in a straight line in your underwear" is important for a field stretcher. That is why the combine has that test and everyone covers it. Look at the vast majority of success stories, not the few exceptions. The draft is about stats because athleticism wins the majority of the time in the NFL.
