Pre-Free Agency 2023

hope is not a plan
Agree

But, yes, it always possible that midlevel 1st rounder will be an immediate solid starter at a key position.

Not many other options right now... I don't want to sign Orlando Brown Jr for what it would likely cost; and the recently-released Taylor Lewan needs to show that he's healthy & clean before numbers are even discussed... The rest of the UFAs don't really excite me as starting LTs for the 2023 NEPs:

The only other non-draft possibility is trading for somebody on an expiring contract, same as how Trent Brown was acquired... Here's a list of the 2020 draftees who might fit the category:

Otherwise, I'm open to suggestions...

Dugger isn't good enough in coverage for Free Safety.
and that is why jesse bates makes sense, least to me... dugger and bates is a good set of safeties... plug the hole before it becomes a gap... i dont think we will meet his price though

Miami needs to clear a bunch of cap space before going after a guy like poyer... otc has them at -16m in cap space,,, he is an upgrade over eric rowe though, who is also a free agent... one is a 9m a year player, the other a 6m a year guy... guess it depends on how much space the clear...

miami may need a qb though

everyone wants to play for the Dolphins. Pats are going to have to overpay to get top tier free agents.
Let's face it, BB and BoB are not exactly a huge draw for free agents from other teams. They are both hardasses, tough and super demanding.

With just simple restructures of their 5 highest cap figures, the Dolphins could be as much as $48.386 million under the salary cap.

I'm not conversant enough in the cap to agree or disagree with that assessment... But that's a huge 64m dollar swing... Seems rather incredulous

I think it's more that players look at Miami and think "oh they are stacked and just made the playoffs with the QB being out at the end of the season, this is somewhere I can go and we could make a run and get a ring then I get a big contract after".

Doing the same, the Jets can be as much as $34.912 under the cap. The Bills $33.709 under. The Patriots as much as $44.536 (if you want to push more Jonnu Smith money into 2024).

My point is that this isn’t 2021 when other teams didn’t have the cap space or cash on hand that the Pats had because of the declining cap and cash flow caused by Covid.

Welcome to Cap Hell if they do that. I hope they do. And if the Jete sign Derek Carr that would be a great offseason for the Pats.
Not necessarily, the cap is only going to increase because of the new tv/ media deals. Cap prison (hell is eternal) isn’t such a bad thing when you’re trying to win a Super Bowl for the first time ever or since the late 60s or early 70s as is the case with our divisional rivals.

In the patriots system they typically deploy 3 safety looks.. box, strong and free.. if Dugger plays free wich is typically 20 yards off the line of scrimmage.. then he could be good there becuase your able to see the field better.. however the guys a playmaker period he needs to be on the field all 3 downs..

I like poyer but he's over 30, injury prone and he has gotten exposed a bit without the benefits of playing with hyde..

Dolphins are playing Russian roulette with Tua and his career though I don't see how this kid is still choosing to play football.. however they are a destination with a high flying offense...

As for us just like in 21 we are going to have to pay a bit more to get FAs..

Poyer expresses interest in the Dolphins and now “everyone wants to play for the Dolphins”. LOL. The Chicken Little mentality is alive and well here.

I must have missed “everyone” signing with Miami during the last few free agent periods. Poyer stated the main reasons for his interest. They are the obvious ones and they have nothing to do with the actual Dolphins organization.

Primary Reason: No state income tax
Secondary Reason: Warm weather year round

In third place is probably living near South Beach, due to the areas abundant shiopping, nightclub, restaurant, sportsclub, yoga studio, juice bar and colon cleanse options…..very important for keeping jobless, high-maintenance wives and girlfriends occupied and content while the players kick it with their side pieces.

If Poyer also has fetishes for second-rate owners and chronic mediocrity he kept them to himself during the interview.

Charean Williams of Pro Football talk published their list of the top 100 free agents... can read the full list, just hit the link

The Patriots on the list are:
19. Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers (the top WR available)
27. Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones (3rd ranked CB)
49. Patriots offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn ( i think right about now she finished her first bottle of wine, one of those big magnums)

interesting to note, least to me, the following WRs on the list
36. Packers receiver Allen Lazard
42. Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster
53. Free agent receiver Odell Beckham
59. Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman
70. Saints receiver Michael Thomas
87. Colts receiver Parris Campbell
90. Giants receiver Darius Slayton

The bolded are those in whom I will have Very serious interest should we lose Meyers.
