Also heard talk of the team maybe looking to extend judon.. the guys been a force since he's been here... I can't remember the last time we had a guy put up sack numbers like he does..
Chandler Jones?

Judon is great, but he’s already under contract for his age 31 and 32 seasons. I don’t think they need to be eager to get him under contract for 2025 when he’s 33 yet.
He's going into his last year I believe.. and he's far surpassed his contract.. he's done better here then in his time in Baltimore.. he said he loves playing here and wants to re up.. 33 isn't old.. remember we had guys over 30 get re-uped isn't far fetched. I can see the team doing something like adding a 2 year deal.. we'll see I guess

There’ll be zero completions because he will shoot his way out of town this summer lol
Lol good, then we can hopefully see the bills we've come to know and love over the years lol

McDermott/Cachoo/Trent Brown/UFA/rookie can compete for the starting RT job; and Matt Light started at LT as a rookie in 2001, so who's to say that our rookie LT can't do the same in 2023?
hope is not a plan

But, yes, it always possible that midlevel 1st rounder will be an immediate solid starter at a key position.

The TE dilemma is difficult - should we cut Jonnu?
He's been the most frustrating big $ offensive FA in a long time (along with Agholor).
But, it's hard to say if it's because of rookie Mac in year 1, and stupid OC in year 2.
It's reasonable to assume BOB can get a lot more out of him, but at that contract level??

my inclination would be to say we should not cut Jonnu... If we did, it would have to be post june 1... its 19 million in dead cap, and a negative 1.8m in cap space... probably not a good idea... that's a huge dead money hit to take... after 6/1 we do get 4 million in cap space, but you still have 12m in dead cap this year and 6m next year...

Jonnu reminds me a lot of Adelius Thomas - in production they both showed flashes of who they could be for us.

The reasons may be different - AT with a running down motor, Jonnu due to misuse. At least, that seems to be the case.

With the radical change in staff this year I think it is worth giving Jonnu one more season. If the Pats can get him on some mis-matches, or in a position to make the first guy miss and we've got a pretty productive guy.

Judon is under contract for this year and next year, but a restructuring/extension should definitely come this year as his cap hits are at their highest, $17.6 million this year and $16.1 million in 2024.

Ryan Ramcyzk... This guy is not a free agent, but was kinda hoping he'd shake loose, becoming available via trade because of the Saints cap situation now standing at a negative 30m... but they did what they do best, kicked the can down the road... no longer a remote option...

was hoping though... would have been a near perfect player to fill the gaping hole at RT...

Wanted him last FA he's still young battled injuries came on in the last part of the season for Detroit. What's peoples take? He had two really fine years in Jacksonville I think it's a good time to buy on a player like him.

Judon's contract is sort of an automatic restructure when they need the cap money late in the preseason. This restructure frees up $5M. This cap money (and a bit more) right at the end the end of the season, after the final cut-down.

An extension s another thing entirely, but a fine idea IMO.

At very least there could be a short extension (1-3 years) plus void year to extend the cap hit. However, this could happen this year, next, or not at all.
===================
The bigger question is Smith. If we are keeping him, his contract would likely still be available for restructure later in the year, producing $4.5M in cap money (push forward that amount to 2024.

Definitely not seeing what you're describing with his stats. He has a low target rate. He had one good year in Jax, but that was 4 years ago. He has less production than Nelson Agholor. And last 2 years he's been hurt more than N'Keal Harry.

We have more productive WRs in Bourne and Parker, and hopefully Meyers. Unless we can somehow get a #1 top guy, there's very little point in signing a guy who we shouldn't start over Meyers, Thornton, Parker and Bourne. I'm OK taking a guy in the draft, but that's our 5 WRs right there. A 6th guy who isn't as good as the guys we have isn't going to help us much.

I am just looking at DJ Chark minus the Two injured filled years wonder if we could get him on the cheap. I think he would be a nice addition to come in and compete I am not sold on D Parker.

I think Chark is fine but I don’t think he’s really better than what we already have.

Parker is cheaper though and relatively more productive, though he has a similar target to catch rate, which isn't good.

I think Bourne could do what Chark can, but even better.

A move to chark is just treading water
