The optimistic case for Mac Jones

I'm just saying to curb expectations. He had some talent in Houston, but they were still mediocre on offense.

I was just comparing talent level and ceiling. I was a fan of Watson coming out of college, but he's not up to the task in big games. O'Brien in NE got badly outcoached in the playoffs 3 years in a row. They had absolutely no business getting shut down by the Jets with Rex Ryan saying that 2010 team was the easiest team he's game planned against in his career. He knew the Pats couldn't throw to the outside, so he clogged the middle of the field. O'Brien had no answer. They had the 2011 Giants on the ropes up 17-9, but let the foot off the gas after being up 17-9. That was extremely disappointing. He had a 24-0 lead against the Chiefs and decided to call it a day getting outscored 51-7.

There is absolutely nothing! Nothing that can possibly be worse that last season. We were the laughing stock of the league..

No matter what, this upcoming season can only be better..

Some of you are more interested in being right than you are hoping this team does well. Jesus. I could care less who the QB of this team is as long as they win. None of us are in the team meetings, the coaches meeting with the QBs. No one here knows for sure who is the better leader, Mac or Zappe, and none of us know who sees the field best. You can be assured that the coaches know it (or will know it, under BoB, eff Patricia and Judge). Take a pill for chrissakes. It's February. Talk to me after camp. Then we can will have a better idea, even if we don't see the whole picture.

I get that everyone is frustrated because '22 was such a cluster, and we don't know what we have. We don't need to have #teamzappe or #teammac. If Zappe wins the job, good for him. If Mac wins the job, good for him. If they win 12 games with Captain Freakin' Kangaroo at QB, good for us. Just win.

There's 13 teams picking ahead of them in the draft. Not even close to a laughing stock. Patricia and Judge suck, to be sure, but I don't think you understand how bad BAD can be.

Yes your absolutely right in that sense.. I'm talking about the coaching set up that we had, the standards for NE is far superior to that.. what I'm trying to say is that set didn't have to happen if not for ego's and I know better than you type mentality by the GOAT head coach.. so in retrospect based on NE standards it was a bad season.. so bad ownership had to take control, put out statements..

I'm old enough to remember how bad we were 80s, early 90s. Until Parcells came along and set some winning culture in place.. so yes I'm agreeing with you absolutely! just you have to stop and think compared to the standards set the last 2 decades.. 2022 was bad, because it didn't have to be.. and you gained nothing for Mac!!!

Yes, it is unfair to blame Patricia for any of Jones’ problem. In the 2023 season, Patricia is going to show in his second year as the Patriots’ OC that he really is a good OC and Jones is just holding him back.

BTW, Jones threw 11 INTs which is less than Josh Allen, Mahomes, or Burrow. Yes, he played fewer games but he didn‘t have have an unusual amount of interceptions.

Dying on the"Patricia and Judge we're actually good! Mac was holding them back" is an odd hill to die on for the "Mac sucks" crowd.

But it doesn't fit the narrative of "Mac sucks! It's all his fault!" If triumph admits Patricia/judge were part of the issue and a large part. (Which bill has basically admitted by hiring O'Brien and changing the whole offensive staff)

We are just supposed to believe that everyone on the offense Mac included regressed on their own because Mac sucks.

If Mac is decent or good next year and we are winning games are there going to be a contingency of fans who are angry and pissed off because "their guy" isn't the QB? I don't get it.

Yeah this season is worse because it was completely avoidable. All bill had to do was what every other NFL team does. Hire an offensive coach to coach offense. It's so simple. The media was all over it last March that it wouldn't work. And bill grunted at them.

But Bill is "smarter" than everyone and hired a DC and special teams coach because they are his buddies to learn on the job.

If the Jets did this there would be a 100 page thread about how laughable they are.

Absolutely! That's why I've stated.. ego's and the I know what best for the team ideology caught up to us..

Ownership is fully behind Mac even though his head coach seemingly isn't.. So what happens then? Having a fully invested Ownership and a partially invested HC.. Bill has to be person here to adapt this time around not Mac.. in most organizations the move BB pulled gets most GMs fired!

@MAC10 laughed at me when I said a year ago I would still trade Mac for Lawrence straight up.

I remember that being a real conversation. It demonstrates the point about lack of coaching and lack of weapons with a young quarterback is tough to overcome. Thus, the hope for Mac turning it around! unfortunately mr lawrence is going to be a problem for us and others in the league for a long time.
