Who's your Mount Rushmore of Boston Sports?

I appreciate Russell and Williams greatness and sacrifice. And Russell stands over everyone else as a team sport champion. But I cant agree putting Williams in a Tier over Brady. Cant do it.

Brady was that great in a league that was designed to prevent him from doing what he did and on top of it a league that cheated to insure he couldn't continue. Brady's 6 rings are => whatever Williams did on/off the field.
Two different situations. Williams may have compiled the greatest hitter of all time type stats had he not gone to flight in 2 wars. John Glenn spoke of Williams:
It was in Korea where Williams met John Glenn, the future astronaut and U.S. senator. They quickly became good friends, and Williams flew half his missions as Glenn's wingman.

“I had been a baseball fan since I was a boy, and meeting Ted was a thrill,” Glenn recalled in his autobiography, John Glenn: A Memoir. “He was tall, genial, and easy to like, and he developed a voracious taste for the chocolate fudge [my wife's] sister, Jane, would send from home. … He was a fine pilot, and I liked to fly with him.”
And, just to top it off, he's in the Fly Fishing Hall Of Fame:
Ted Williams — Catskill Fly Fishing Museum.

Brady definitely gets the benefit of recency bias. If Ted did all of these things in the 21st Century, he'd be mythic. That's not to say the Brady doesn't belong on the mountain, 100% does. But Williams defines "another level". Tom is 100% the GOAT, and his accomplishments are all to well known in these parts, to be sure. Williams, on the other hand, was possibly the best hitter ever, possibly the best pilot ever and maybe even the best fly fisherman ever.

After further review and research, it's Brady, Orr, Russell and Williams.

Remember, Williams won that batting title at 40. 40!!!! Imagine what 40 years old was like in the 50s when players smoked cigs and drank in the clubhouse. Imagine what he did at home.

That like 55 in todays age.

Not that he'd make the top 4, but does Roger Clemens being a Yankee later completely screw his career in Boston?

I get it. But I cant put Williams in another Tier as Brady and I get all the military staff and fly fishing and that he reinvented hitting.

Do you think if we made a poll that people here would put Williams in a Tier over Brady as far as performance? Not talking about sacrifice but that's a different topic and quite frankly (while greatly appreciated) irrelevant to the convo.

I'd have Pedro ahead of Ortiz, just because of the sheer dominance he had for a stretch, but I totally can't argue against Ortiz.

This is my list, otherwise.
IMO Pedro is in the top 5 GOAT pitchers of the modern era.

No way. Here? No chance.

I don't think it's irrelevant to the topic, but germane to it. Imagine if Brady did these things. He'd be deified.

It’s all about rings:
Rus
TB
Papi
Orr didn’t win enough titles. Love Ted and Yaz to mention a couple, but no rings.
Oh and honorable mention to a fella by the name of Larry Bird. Amazing no one has mentioned this guy.

Brady
.....
.....
.....
Orr
Russell
Ortiz

I am a championships matter person.
I’m fine with your four but since your a championships matter person shouldn’t Russell be higher on your chart?

In todays age of social media and hatred I think TB would be hated no matter what. Comes with the territory.

Not here at pats fans. Deity.

Since Hockey is not a sport, I'm gonna weigh in with Ted Williams, Bill Russell, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick

How is hockey "not a sport?"

Why is Russell number one? He isn't even the GOAT of his own sport.
He isn't the goat due to recently bias. He played in an era of overt racism in much of the country. HE won 11 championships in 13 seasons, he was injured during 1 of the 2 seasons he didn't win (High ankle sprain against ST louis.). HE put more teammates in the HOF than any other player. I saw both both GOATS of their sports but Russell is in a class of 1.

It's just a bunch of people skating around with stick thingies hitting a black deal past a fat dude into a net thing.
In a board filled with bad takes, this may be the very worst.

You'd have a better case that baseball isn't a sport.
