Mac Jones working out with Nic Shimonek on his strength and conditioning

Yep, remember his pics of being jacked and pumped before camp?

And while having a heaping helping of... salad... in front of him.

Come to think of it, Corky does look kinda like a rabbit... Not one of those fluffy & chubby ones; more like one of those desert hares, all skin & bones, but also without the speed & agility...

Who remembers Mackie Shilstone, the dude who helped train Michael Spinks vs Larry Holmes when Holmes would've been only one win away from Marciano? Maybe that's whom our own Mac should contact to help his pocket footwork & escapability...

Really good name for a shady lawyer.

Shilstone is 71. He's a professor at Tulane amongst other things.

Good. I want to see this. Might not mean anything but it does mean something if he’s NOT doing it.
Now he can work on showing leadership like this QB did back in the day. Team and fans were really pumped about this one.

Good times.

Or this character.

Absolutely. Patricia and Judge were spread too thin and were really bad.

That said Patricia and his meatball stained playsheet have nothing to do with his inconsistent mechanics, decision making, failure to handle sudden pressure/blitz/2nd level blitz and so on. We saw some of those issues before Chumley came along. Even as far back as coming out of college.

I think thats something Mac apologist dont get. It's ok to critique Mac. Admit he had a bad year as well as Patricia. They're not mutually exclusive. Sure Patricia was "worse" at what he was tasked with doing but Mac doesn't get a "free pass" when conditions erode or things get tough.
If i recall Mac was decent against the blittz in his first year and one of the worst in his second. Whilst he isn't absolvable of blame a player in a bad spot behind a bad line with bad coaching in only his second year is likely that his fundamentals like mechanics etc will diminish as he gets sped up. Sure it shouldn't happen but players aren't robots. Brady looked poor in 2019 and a shadow of himself in a poor offense but with decent coaching. The next year in Tampa he looked great. Context is important and it's not being an apologist. Very few qbs will play in a situation that was as bad as last year.

Well, to my point, Belichick said this about Patricia, "he's been really a very valuable resource and confidant and somebody to talk... and his experience and perspective has been extremely valuable."

Bill might have brain Rot if he still thinks that

Great for Mac I am sure whoever is working with Zappe will make him much improved too. Look @ Purdy's success with the 49ers I didn't see any mechanical flaws.

You are acting like things like decision making, mechanics etc. Are mutually exclusive from bad coaching. And somehow we are supposed to expect a 2nd year QB to transcend that when he isn't getting proper coaching on mechanics etc. In a poorly designed offense. The head rots from the core. He looked pretty good at those things with McDaniels so I'm not sure what you are even saying.

They are all related. No one is saying Mac had a great year all people are saying is the dysfunction in the coaching was SOOO bad to judge a 2nd year QB based on it is just dumb.

I'm not sure how people can still hold onto the notion of "Mac regressed all on his own it's his fault!" After hearing how bad the coaching and playcalling was. It was worse than Jets level bad.

Now that he has a REAL OC who will be coaching plays and him personally the clock starts

Well said Brother I want Mac to do well but we all saw the flaws. Can he overcome them?? I don't know but I would love to be proven wrong. That said I am sure Mac knows the gap between between him and Zappe is not very far. Anyway glad he's off to a very early start.

Not only that he’s doing it, but that he’s doing it so soon after the season. Training camp is a long time from now. Wonder what he’ll look like when TC comes. He might need to work with Tom House again between now and then if the added strength throws off his mechanics.

Adding strength in itself doesn't throw off mechanics, flexibility/full range of motion is part of the training regimen.

I think his bigger issue is his inability to extend plays. Brady had the same issue and did boxing training to improve his short area mobility, Jones needs to be doing the same. If he continues to go down every time the pocket starts to break down he isn’t going to make it.

I find it hillarious that we have posters here who think they know better than professional trainers who are hired by billionaires to coach millionaire professional athletes in one of the largest and most lucrative professional sports leagues in the world how to train.

Of course it's OK to critique Mac and of course he had a bad year, should not get a free pass, etc. But you also must acknowledge that flaws in mechanics and what appear to be unilaterally poor decisions under pressure often can be directly attributable to elements beyond the quarterback's control, re. systematic protection breakdowns and timing issues off poor play design/execution. The differences between cause and effect ("system" vs. "player") can be difficult to discern, which is why a broader view as outside observers is prudent. My rule of thumb re. assessing Mac is to largely disregard last season and expect refinement under BOB on the promise he showed his rookie year. That would mean being better than the 13th-ranked QB he was in 2021 leading a top-10 offense. If that doesn't happen he likely is not "the guy."

Yeah but then he had bluto the buffoon calling plays
Belichick oversaw all the playcalling.

Thats why he put Patricia as OC because anyone can follow his directions. I got news for you too. Bill Obrien is not going to magically transform Corky Mac into an elite QB. If BOB had that gift, he would not be looking for a new job every 2 years and he could name his price and get it.

One of the most bangable little American brunettes of our generation, same as Sally Field was of hers.
Careful. Sandy may not have achieved the mythic levels that Lily has here on patsfans, but she's America's sweetheart. Tread lightly, friend. ;)
