Huh?

Last 10 SB winners:

Rams - Stafford
Bucs - Brady
Chiefs - Mahomes
Patriots - Brady
Eagles - Folk
Patriots - Brady
Broncos - Manning
Patriots - Brady
Seahawks - Wilson
Ravens - Flacco

2/10 were "mobile" quarterbacks. One could actually argue based on actual SB winners that traditional Pocket Passers > "Mobile" QBs
And in Wilson's case, they won because their defense held the record setting Broncos to one score. Mahomes is the only one who got a ring being mobile, and I'd argue outside of that, he's just a fantastic passer anyways.

And if you had to put him in one bucket or the other, he's more of a pocket-passer than a mobile QB even though his play had shades of both.

Uh Joe burrow isn't exactly mobile
He doesn't need to be having Chase, Higgins, Boyd, Mixon & Hurst. Yet he attempted 75 rushes @ 3.4 ypc and 275 yards, which would've been 3rd in the Pats roster.

I don’t think it would be fair to blame Caley for the performance of the TE’s the past couple of years, but he hasn’t done anything that the public is aware of to set himself apart either. Those with much more access to his job performance could have the insight, but I don’t see how anyone on the outside could have anything to judge him by.
I think several things give people the impression Caley could've done the job well:

1. He's the longest tenured O coach and is rumored to know the playbook well;
2. McDaniels tried to poach him;
3. He's been requested for OC interviews on other teams.

You're right though, none of us knows squat what his capabilities are.

So...nothing? Are we trying to set a new standard for damning with faint praise? I'm pretty sure I could be in the running if that's the case.
So we are going to Judge Nick Caley off the TE's play?? I don't think that would be fair to him BB totally messed up with the 2022 Offensive Coaching cast.

Problem is if they can’t come to an agreement with Bob, what is the contingency plan?
I’m not seeing us interviewing the same names other other teams are:
I don’t want to hear Bill knows better than them.

Agreed. And at one point the two TEs ran into each other with one TE injuring the other. And that is not related to coaching? Hard to swallow that.

How do you propose to judge the TE coach? We had two tight ends running routes and running into each other and falling down. Not a good look.

I wondered about the HC stuff in relation to BOB. I figured he would want to be the future HC too so Mayo getting made the “heir apparent” screws that up. But obviously Kraft can’t actually legally promise that to Mayo… I would honestly be fine with either O’Brien or Mayo as the next HC.

Brady, Stafford and Manning are the past. Even Burrows is pretty mobike when he has to be

Because it's suddenly changed THIS year? Never mind the past two seasons or the past 8 out of 9, from now on it's different!

I'm just uncomfortable promising a HC job to someone whose job description is shrouded in so much mystery so far. A year ago I'd have assuaged those fears by saying IBWT, but then Patricia happened and I don't know what to think anymore.
Well you aren’t making the offer so your knowledge of Mayo and his qualifications isn’t pertinent. In other words, Kraft can make a decision just as well if you don’t have the facts you want as if you do

That was due to Patricia's spacing or lack their of.

Mobile QBs lose protection outside pocket. I wouldn't be surprised if average shelf life of mobile QB is less than 10 years .

I am okay if we get someone similar to Burrow .

I don't think we have enough insight to judge his competence, but we do know the unit he's tasked with hasn't exactly overperformed. I wouldn't just give him the job if B'OB falls through — I'd rather look outside of NE for coaches who have a track record of success.

Your position was that its impossible to compete and win without a mobile quarterback and I showed you that 80-100% (Depends if you want to count Russell/Mahomes) of SB winning QBs over the last 10 seasons have been pocket passers/not run threats.

I think Mayo not having any experience in the HC responsibilities is more of a way to keep him here. Learning from BB for a few years is better for his longevity as a HC in the future (here or elsewhere) and is quite appealing.
Bob has done pretty much all phases of coaching and GM. I would think he wants to better his run at another HC job in the very near future. Being back home and being around BB is a comfort zone for him. He did not exactly knock it out of the park in Bama coaching something already established. I think coming back his roots of coaching an Offense is appealing and he would be allowed to do that here. Although he probably would like to be HC here. He knows BB is not going anywhere till he passes Shula. That may be too long for him. But resetting his stature is his best card to play.
I could be way off just my 2 cents

I am just a little nervous about the former players like the WR's and OT interviewing for the job. I want someone who would be here for a little while. I don't know how much McCardell and Jefferson was involved in the Offensive play calling in their previous jobs.

I think Mayo is something special gut feeling.
