Mayo negotiations + OC interviews next week

You guys are talking about how Bill only interview's guys he's connected to in some way. What is McArdell's connection? Not being a smart azz, I didn't there was one, which is why I am intrigued by the possibility. Not saying OMG he's the guy.
played for him in Cleveland

I wonder how much of these interviews is too give former players he respected some experience and limelight in the interview process for a bump in their coaching future, and to comply with the Rooney rule at the same time. Even if he does not feel they are ready to take over our system. Possibly if they could move on from their current team a positional position here

I'm all for it I would like a WR Coach not named Troy Brown.

Think Troy might be going back to just doing the returners coach, which since he's been in charge of we've done pretty well there. I'd like us to get a WR coach who has developed or has more experience of doing that role, same goes for other positional roles within the team as well as assistants. We seem to have one of the smallest coaching teams compared to other teams. We have 19 coaches including S+C and to compare that to the 49ers they have 26, without having S+C listed. They also seem to have Passing game Co-ordinators as well as Run Game Co-ordinators. Not sure if we ever had a big coaching staff but just wondering if BB is thinking of making his coaching staff larger.

Happy if Bill is using these interviews to get these guys exposure to potentially set them up for future roles, but I'm getting weird 2022 offseason vibes with Bill just looking at people he knows. That resulted in DC/ST coaches being hired to run the offense, he has to do better this go around.

either way okay one person out of like the 6 names he has no connection to.

I dont see other coaches in the league only interviewing their buddies. its not a way to build a staff if you want the best minds

not one person he is interviewing has experience calling offense at the NFL or even college level.

I hope some of these coaches can be poached for roles with the Patriots at some point. Pats need a whole lot of changes in their coaching staff, so bringing guys from outside the organization as coaches.

I know teams are blocked from poaching coaches unless it's a promotion. Could the Pats hire McCardell or Jefferson as passing game coordinator and have it count as a promotion for either of them? Klemm as a line coach could help too.

I'll be very surprised if the next OC doesn't have experience in calling plays at the NFL level. With how 2022 went...I'd also be very surprised if Kraft didn't express that to Bill.

I think the minority interviews are a mere formality thought I wouldn't any of them to replace the BB incumbents.

I'd be happy with some of these interviewees as positional coaches. Hire BOB as OC. Let him go somewhere else as HC in a year. Advance the best positional guy from this new crop as new OC.
If Mac is starting in 2023 then essentially that will be 5 different OC's in 5 years for him. IMO I think the next OC should stick around a while...2023 and beyond.

That is why I would prefer Nick Caley who wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon based on experience. I think if Bob comes here and do good he's gone in a year.
