Mayo negotiations + OC interviews next week

It sure looks like O’Brien. This is how things look with the rules in place now. First you interview the top internal candidate that you’re not giving the job to, then the interviews that you’re required by rule to do, and then you make it known that you want an interview with who you expected to hire all along.
I think the order is coming from Krafts whether bill likes it or not . Maybe that was the deal they had when bill signed up Patricia and Judge to be the offensive coach for this year.

They went from Devonta Smith, Jaylin Waddle, Jameson Williams, Metchie, Slade Bolden to ... ? Jermaine Burton.

Big talent drain down there.

And when all those players left, they returned to being the Alabama of pre-Tua and pre-Mac. Same yardage last year as they had in 2017 and 2016.
They actually had a pretty good offense in 2021 if I recall correctly.

Saban's reign of dominance may be coming to an end with all these NIL deals.

I'm hoping a Kirk vs. Spock duel to the death.

With the music.

Makes sense. However you never know how that works out. They could get blown away by one of those earlier interviews (McArdell) and end up going in a different direction. I wonder how many talks Belichick and his best bud Saban have had about Bill O'Brien. Obviously they both have their own individual experiences with BoB as a coordinator but especially now, where he ~ appears ~ to be catching some blame regarding Alabama's underwhelming season.

How do OC interviews even go? Serious question. I'm curious what goes on in that interview. Do they give game scenarios of "This team frequently runs xyz how do you attack that scheme on this down and distance" Or is it more of a philosophical question of "What elements of an offense are most important" etc

Look at the evidence, he didn't want to hire someone that would be gone in a year. I think BOB's the guy unless he had someone else in mind that wasn't available until this year.
You think O'Brien wouldn't be gone in a year if he got a HC opportunity? I don't think a long term OC contract would keep him from leaving early for a promotion to a HC position.

Sort of my point actually. He looked great under Brady years in NE... But so did Charlie Weiss and Josh McDaniels.

In Houston they never had a top 10 offense in points scored or yards gained despite having considerable talent on roster including one of the best QBs (Watson) and WRs (Hopkins). Not saying he is a bum, but would love someone outside the BB "family tree" for this hire. Bring in new ideas and a new offensive system and make it our own.

It does seem odd to me that BB will only hire people in his inner-circle. Its like he's become paranoid of any outside thought.
It's a real anachronism isn't it prevalent across every Head Coach in the NFL (much less the entirety of humanity) - when in charge to run things the way you want with people that share similar approaches?

That never happens anywhere else....

I'd love to know this. I bet it's all of the above. Everything has to be on the table, right? Coaching style, offensive theory, situational roleplays, personnel, career goals, all of it.

I want to see no less than 5 new offensive coaches on the staff.
I love Troy Brown but he’s always been a doer not a vocal firery guy I wonder if that is hindering the WRs to listen to him.

I still want him as a assistant to the assistant because I love Troy.

And some.
I would think questions such as " With our current roster how can we best utilize them" or "From your experience game planning against us what players do you see as not being productive and a weakness that can be exploited" or vice a versa". Good way to get intel even if he is not your man.

other than O'brien, no one else on the list really inspires much confidence. None of them have coached offense or QB's. just "bills best buddies!" At least O'brien is a "bill buddy" who can coach offense.

Not sure why Bill can only interview coaches he is friends with or has a connection to.

It's not a matter of "can only" it's a matter of "will only".

BB is old and set in his ways and is content to play out the string with minimal pushback from people he doesn't already have a good working relationship with.

What is McArdell's connection to Bill?

Tampa just fired Leftwich and a bunch of coaches there will be next.

Don't sign the beast. Lol

As bad as the injuries were you think with Brady and those WR's they would be better. Is Toilet Bowles still HC??

Coaching staff has to be in Unison or that is a recipe for disaster. If you want to coach with BB you have to be a gym rat. Knowing that person will bring those answer's to light.

He hasn't been hired. Unless you have some information I don't.
You guys are talking about how Bill only interview's guys he's connected to in some way. What is McArdell's connection? Not being a smart azz, I didn't there was one, which is why I am intrigued by the possibility. Not saying OMG he's the guy.
