We're on to the OFF-Season

I don’t like we haven’t even heard a whisper regarding the offensive staff.
Mature balanced organizations don't jump and change. They are methodical, deliberate, and think decisions through even if it looks like the decision is obvious.

So, if Curran is right, Lazar was wrong. And I think most of us, if not all, hope that Curran was right.

A lot of needed moves are pretty easy to see:

Patricia and Judge need to be shuffled to other spots. Judge to special teams and Patricia to a special assistant makes sense.
Bring back the old system and an O.C. who's run it (That means no Kingsbury!) and can get Jones back to a good place mentally
Get a left tackle (Brown can be shifted back to RT), a CB1, and a WR1
Get speed at ILB
Get a speedy FS if McCourty retires

There's plenty more, but those are nose-on-face level obvious.

This is a GREAT post. Please avoid the Brady posts and concentrate on 2023.

There was a report that the reason Malcolm got benched was Lil Stephen told him to practice on the ST unit and he told him to GFY. That's why he got benched. Malcolm said afterwards, "those Mfers."

Lil Stephen has never been left alone. Bill has him working in tandem first w/ Flores, then w/ Mayo.

Jack Jones tweeted: imagine trying to teach you how to tackle when you've never played ball.

Mayo said he does the coordinating (dealing w/ players) & Lil Stephen is the play caller. All of the secondary & LB coaches are ex-lacroisse players, except for Mayo. Watch the sidelines interactions during games.

Nobody is interested in interviewing Lil Stephen because he's a leader of men or for any reason really. Several teams are interested in Mayo despite him only coaching since 2019. Flores can get DC or HC jobs.

Just put 2 & 2 together. Do you think any of these young ballers are going to respect the ex-lacroisse son of the HC? Sure, he's smart. Probably learned more about football than most by osmosis just by standing next to Bill. He can call plays. But from that to gaining the respect and admiration of these young men isn't the same thing. He's not Bill. Bill protects him.

This is half facts and half make believe. I wonder if you cleverly weave the two, or are confused.

Just a random reflection - considering the absolute failure of BB's staffing decisions, it's a miracle we still went 8-9.
If this was any other organization, this team/situation would certainly have been only around 3 or 4 wins.
That was an impressive season by the Defense. I hope they can keep it rolling next year.

The Bengals are really scary as talented as that Team is look at that amazing cap space. Raiders are not too bad either if they can get a consistent QB.

Miguel has the Pats at $36M (taking into acct LTBE/NLTBE) but then again all the others are probably lower as well.
I would cut TE H Henry to add to the tally he's not that special and wouldn't be hard to replace he stinks as a Blocker.

Yeah Raiders defense was pretty bad last year with the exception of Crosby.

yeah but soon have to pay several guys starting with QB Burrow and than everyone around him, 2 years from now it will look different again, for the Pats it is important to just hit as many homeruns with the draft as possible

The only "rumor" is the Malcolm one. The rest are facts or things you can surmise from watching and reading about the team. We know we're not getting any reports coming out of the Foxboro vault, so you do your best to put things together based on multiple sources and experience. I worked for an Engineering firm rife with nepotism. Nobody respected the Owners son and he was a PE.

If Mayo leaves (likely) it'll be interesting to see if Bill elevates Lil Stephen to DC after conducting Rooney Rule interviews. My guess is it doesn't happen.

As to the generational gap between Bill and the players:

“[Bill Belichick] prepares for everything. He prepares for the weather, he prepares for where the sun’s going to be at a certain time … he’s the ultimate, when it comes to preparation,” Mayo told us. “And that goes right back to the military. But I’m not Bill, I don’t try to be Bill. I’m from a different generation. I do coach hard, but I understand players now are different. I think Coach understands that, too, and that’s why he keeps younger coaches around him. There needs to be diversity of thought and diversity of people."

And this from a Feb '22 interview (1:20 mark):

"And I would say Bill has evolved from when I was a player until now, obviously the players are different than they were back then."

Mayo is well spoken and comes across as a likeable dude with charisma. I can see the players respecting him and why they rave about his leadership.

Now contrast how a young black player perceives Mayo with this:

The Bengals are really scary as talented as that Team is look at that amazing cap space. Raiders are not too bad either if they can get a consistent QB.

The Bengals have a lot of their key players due top of market contracts in the next few years including Burrow, Chase, Higgins, and Jesse Bates. The Bengals are notoriously cheap.

But they Draft extremely well unlike the Patriots.

I would cut TE H Henry to add to the tally he's not that special and wouldn't be hard to replace he stinks as a Blocker.
I'm not thrilled w/ Henry's production but I would keep him for two reasons:

1. He's the most productive of the 2 TEs and seems to have good chemistry w/ Mac.

2. Availability. One of the concerns w/ Henry was his injury history. We have other more pressing needs and need a TE that is serviceable.

I would look into trading Smith. You only take a $6M dead cap hit if he's traded after June 1st. Maybe the Tits will take him back since he had a career year there and they need play makers.

The only "rumor" is the Malcolm one. The rest are facts.

All of the secondary & LB coaches are ex-lacroisse players - this is not true.

Nobody is interested in interviewing Lil Stephen - this is not true - you have no idea what really happens. If BB and his son want to work together, no-one would ask to interview Stephen. That is how it works in the real world - people respect other's wishes.

Bill protects him - this is not true - you have no idea what really happens. Plus Stephen calls a great D - we lost all of our senior LBs and two of our three top CBs, and the D got better. As you note, Flores left and Mayo joined, and the D was still good. If Mayo leaves leaves, no-one expects the D to tank. What is the steady and consistent about the D play calling? No need to protect someone who does a great job.

I now know if you cleverly weave everything together or if it is all confused in your mind.
