“Well I think there’s, you know, Mac has the ability to uh… um… you know… to play quarterback in this league, and… you know, we all have to work together to try to find the best, um… and most, you know, best way to - as a, as a football team - um… which obviously the quarterback is an important position - to be more productive than we were this year.”

Sounded like he was trying to come up with a way to answer that kind of said “yeah we might get rid of him” without saying it outright or actually speaking negatively about him directly.

Kingsbury knows the system and has a relationship will Bill.
Who else would you suggest?

Jordan Richards and Myles Bryant know the system and have a relationship with Bill.

I don't want BOB. I want us to start moving to a modern offense. It's not 2010 anymore.
Agreed BOb was adequate here as OC (had Brady of course which made him look better). I think there are better options out there….Don’t like Kingsbury that much either

This would be a home run.

Follow me here. The guy had nfl experience…with the Patriots. He is innovative in the college ranks. He developed the current OC at Texas Tech, Zach Kittley.

And guess who was Bailey Zappe’s QB coach and OC during his college career, first at Houston Baptist (recently renamed Houston Christian) and at Western Kentucky, where Zappe followed Kittley.

Zappe put up historic numbers his last year at Western Kentucky. Just jaw dropping.

And this would greatly benefit Zappe. Mac Jones better prepare to be the backup.

To be honest, I put Kingsburry only because a lot of people swear by Evan Lazar on this board and he wants Kingsburry more than BoB.

That non-answer is incredibly telling.

He clearly is not sold on Mac
The Zappe saga was Bill telling you the same thing. If Bill believed in Mac he would have said « Mac will be our starter when he is healthy »

Then why not stick with Zappe?
Is it because A coach or players complained?
I would guess that Meyers and Harris were upset about it and Bill didn’t want to drive a wedge.

Yep...and his return did nothing to sway BBs opinion.

Could be a situation in which they do not think Mac is a fit for the new offense

I think he had to play Mac otherwise the locker room would have imploded.

Mac has his supporter in the locker room. Meyers, Bourne, Andrews, Henry, Harris and probably Stephenson are Mac guys.

That’s why I could totally see Bill broke that nucleus in the offseason. Meyers and Bourne could be gone. Cutting Henry would save 10M.

I agree. I think Bill wanted to avoid at all costs a divided locker room.

Other reason is I think they just felt Mac was the better QB and wanted to give him ample opportunity to adapt to the new system.

Might as well try to see if they could hire Kittley as quarterbacks coach if they’re going down that path….

Post June 1 trade might be on the table.
One career comeback to your brief career while the Rookie in Pittsburgh have like four. Yeah I would be really sold on Mac Jones too even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

The hell does that even mean? That’s a weird answer. Especially after how hard he backed him this off-season like you said.

It definitely feels like he’s put Mac at arm’s length over the course of the season. Never spoke badly about him but never really talked him up once the games began being played.

Some part of me wonders if he could be traded… Send him to Vegas for a 2nd + 4th, use #14 on a top CB like Witherspoon or Porter Jr, then use your two high 2nds, high 3rd and your four 4ths on OL, WR, LB and DB. Maybe a punter.
I feel BB might roll the dice with Jimmy G in FA if they feel Zappe is not the answer. That said even Ray Charles can see that weak arm Mac is not the answer.

This is what bad teams do....

They draft a QB in the 1st rd.

They support him with sub-standard coaching, average personnel and the skillset is incompatible with the offensive system they choose to run
-OR-

They change the system and coaching in which he had success with which then leads to regression.

They then deem the QB no longer their future. It's all his fault.

Rinse. Repeat.

What exactly does "done their research" mean here though? They already know him and have worked with him...

I guess it makes sense, but I wonder. I imagined him taking a year or two off since he's getting paid for 4 more years, but he's really young so maybe he wants to get his career on track again for another future HC opportunity right away. And obviously he's a confident guy, so "the guy who fixed the dysfunctional Pats offense" would be pretty good on a resume.

Maybe the can trade for Hopkins if he's the OC.

Thoughts on trading a late round pick for Mitch Trubisky?
He has an arm and is mobile and never had a chance against the home town hero Pickett.
Who looked a lot better than Mac did this year.
Listen Jimmy G or bust yeah he's fragile but when he's in he wins prefect game manager for BB.
