Jalen Hurts
That is an eye opening list. And it shows the difficulty of finding the special QB. Even among your ‘hits’, you could argue a few of them may not amount to much in terms of SB wins. The only one there I feel great about is Mahomes. Burrows & Allen have been very, very good. Jackson has an MVP, but does anyone see that guy winning anything in terms of the playoffs ? I’m a Herbert hater, but I am in the minority.
2nd rounder

wherever they pick, 14-15, this CANNOT be a guard, a tackle, a defensive lineman. this team needs OFFENSE. this pick absolutely had to be the best wide receiver or tight end available. I do not want Belichick making this pick. maybe the tight end pick if there's a no brainer around at 15
I think tackle is our number 1 need . Not sure what’s available via trade or draft or free agency, but we need a tackle badly

1st round QBs last 10 years:

16. Ej Manuel
3. Blake Bortles
22. Johnny Manziel
32. Tedy Bridgewater
1. Jameis Winston
2. Marcus Mariota

1. Jared Goff
2. Carson Wentz
22. Paxton Lynch
2. Mitch Trubisky

10. Patrick Mahomes
1. Baker Mayfield
3. Sam Darnold

7. Josh Allen
10. Josh Rosen
32. Lamar Jackson
1. Kyler Murray
6. Daniel Jones
15. Dwayne Haskins
1. Joe Burrow
5. Tua Tagovailoa
6. Justin Herbert
26. Jordan Love
1. Trevor Lawrence
2. Zach Wilson
3. Trey Lance
11. Justin Fields
15. Mac Jones
20. Kenny Pickett.

GREEN: HIT
BLACK: UNDETERMINED
RED: BUST

As you can see, 10 of the QBs taken higher than our pick have busted. Only 5 have worked out for their teams.
Here's the issue with this.

AFC Playoff picture:

1. Patrick Mahomes: 1st round
2. Josh Allen: 1st round
3. Joe Burrow: 1st round
4. Trevor Lawrence: 1st round
5. Justin Herbert: 1st round
6. Lamar Jackson: 1st round
7. Tua Tagovailoa: 1st round

Yes I realize Tua and Lamar didn't finish the season, their teams got in the playoffs because of them. So 7 out of 7 were in the first round. If we managed to sneak in... it would have still been another first round QB. If the Steelers managed to get in, it would have been another 1st round QB.

Yes I realize the NFC is very different. But the fact is the AFC is loaded and first round QB's are propelling teams into contention that weren't always in contention.

I may be in the minority on this, but we are not far from being among the best teams in the afc.

1.) we need new oc, ol, qb and st coaches.
2.) we need two quality offensive tackles. One should come via the draft.
3.) we need a quality slot receiver and a quality outside receiver.
4.) we need 1 big corner to go with the smurfs.
5.) we need a big run stuffing nose tackle,

Fix the oc, the ol and get a two quality receivers and jones will look so much better,

Kraft needs to go to bill and demand coaching staff changes. If bill is unwilling to jettison patricia or make significant changes to offensive coaching staff it might be time for a change.

Macs not a bad player. He was poorly coached this year

Going even further look how many teams are in there twice or more.

Disappointing season overall, mostly because a good half-dozen or so of our L's were winnable games. I think most would agree this wasn't a SB winning roster going into the season. That said. I like our chances to improve a lot for next season.

We have a good young group with 2 good drafts in a row. We have a couple good vets still under contract. And we have a ton of cap space.

Obvious glaring weakness is OT. would like to sign a solid vet (or 2) and draft.

FS - DMC likely to retire, we need to restock. Not sure if Peppers is good deep, I'd resign him anyway as he's good in other areas

CB - resign Jon Jones, draft/sign a CB with size (or 2).

WR - I would bring back Meyers, I like Parker a lot, Bourne could be a trade piece. Draft/sign another good 1 plus depth.

#1 is fix the coaching, ST easily cost us a couple games. Patricia needs to do something else, maybe be Ernie Adams replacement. Need a real OC and QB coach.

Belichick is 25-25 sans Brady and that means a .500 coach .....there isnt much more to be said here ....
Okay yes but 2020 was tough, Brady left, Covid.

2021 they go 10-7 but 1-3 after the bye and just got out classed. But they had something to build on.

Bill is a great coach who made bad coaching staff decisions. I’d like to give him another year to rectify that. The defense was top 5 at worst this year and arguably the best in the league.

I had us at 8 and 9 missing the playoffs so I'm not really surprised at all. I had us splitting with the jets and beating Chicago but that is all I missed on. We are coached well enough and scheme we'll enough to beat low talent teams. We have no shot when we step up in weight class vs bills and others in that class.

What are we projected to have in cap space?

I think there is a lot more to be said. This is an offseason thread, let’s discuss how to improve the team.

Your point is that Belichick is bad, ok who would you like to replace him with? What moves would you like to see some?

Insinuating Belichick is bad isn’t really saying much at all, so yeah there is a lot more to be said if you want to bring anything to the discussion.

My wishlist in no particular order:

-Move Matty and Judge into different roles. Cams unit was abused all year, and Yates hasn’t been able to get much from his guys. Get rid of em, or move them into another capacity. IDC, but bring in some new blood to refill the ranks. Also, losing Mayo is going to hurt.

-We need a few more corners. Bigger corners. The unit we fielded this year was better than I thought it would be. Not great by any means, but serviceable. The guys are all small by NFL standards though, and these injuries are going to continue to happen if we don’t bring some bigger bodied guys on board. It’s a big problem when you can’t find someone to replace Myles.

-Find a way to keep the safeties all together. Don’t even try to FAFO it with replacing DMC if he retires. Fill it asap.

-If you’re not going to find a way to get both the TE’s involved, then find a way to shed Smiths bloated contract.

-Gotta be more aggressive and get a few more WR’s that fit the system. Doesn’t have to be all-stars, but quality guys that game in and game out perform. Dependable, with hands. YAC is a huge +. Shifty guys that can beat press and get open quickly underneath.

-The tackle situation has to be a major priority. As does the backup situation on the OL.

-I don’t know what to do about the QB situation. Can you get a Mayfield/Carr to come in on a good prove it deal and let them battle it out with Mac? I highly doubt it. I guess if push came to shove, draft a big guy with arm talent that needs some development and let Mac and Bailey battle it out.

-Don’t settle on the front 7. Chance we can get a playmaker there? Someone to team inside with Barmore that would be disruptive? Big fatty run stopper. Guy might be done? Guys like Tavai and Bentley are only going to get you so far. Is there a speedy starter we can find somewhere at ILB?

-Gonna have to go out and find a new punter and kicker it looks like. What are the options?!

Lots of work to do. Bill has definitely got his work cut out for him.

Theyre saying a first round tackle but look what Cincy did for Burrow. His line sucked but they still drafted Jamar Chase. You need a difference maker with the first rounder. This team needs speed.
