I’m having a hard time being excited about the future…

In today's NFL, teams' fortune can change on a dime. The future doesn't look great now, but the Pats have a ton of cap money and draft capital. They could make some moves this offseason that could radically change the direction of this team.

And I cannot see that Belichick will keep Patricia and Judge where they are. He must see they are disasters even if he isn't saying it publicly.

What's really disappointing is that we just wasted a year of our rebuild. We wasted a year of Macs growth to the point where we don't even know now if he's a legitimate NFL starter. Nepotism is running high with the Patriots and it should never have come this far. The coaching this year has been beyond bad.

For me the playoffs are nice, but it's growth I want to see. I want to see us competing with the better teams in the league. Beating the scrub QBs of the NFL and getting pounded by teams with a good QB isn't growth. If you can't compete with the good teams in this league you aren't a Super Bowl contender, and right now we are very far from being a Super Bowl contender. The Kraft's have some big decisions to be made.

Completely agree on being disappointed that Mac hasn't shown growth due to Patricia.

Don't agree on the nepotism comment unless Patricia is secretly Bill's son.

I'm not sure a year of development was wasted for everyone on the team though, because they still added a good draft and some young players showed development (Rham, and Uche being the best examples).

We would all like development to be linear, but it rarely is. Mac certainly took a step back this year.

We are so close to being a contender again.

I'm buying Pat's stock.
Appreciate the optimism! The dynasty was heavily influenced by repeatedly drafting well, and it makes me optimistic that they have now strung multiple good drafts together.

With the nepotism comment, i'm throwing his good buddies Patricia and Judge in there as well.

Good call, I didn't realize nepotism includes friends I thought it was only related to relatives, but I double checked the definition and you are right.

We are an OC, WR, left and right tackle away on offense.

Defense has been on a ascension, could use more lb/DT talent.

It's dark now friends but we are on the path......assuming Bill makes the right coaching staff decisions this offseason.

I was excited after 2021. Right now I'm not excited, also not totally hopeless; more interested in seeing how this gets fixed.

Our problems really boil down to the lack of a consistently good passing attack and general stupidity/sloppiness on the field. Can that be fixed this offseason? I guess we'll see.

His connections have run dry and no coordinators are going to line up to work with him (especially now).
I can't fathom how you would say that, when every coach in the NFL or even in college raves about having any sort of interaction with him

49ers can not franchise tag him.

"NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported that Garoppolo's contract also includes a no-trade clause and a no-franchise tag clause. Thus, the QB controls where he goes and will be a free agent after this season."

I mean Myers not

I think Meyers mistake last night probably cost him some money in free agency and made it more likely he re-signs at a reasonable rate. Any fan base would probably be livid if their GM signed Meyers to a big contract since Meyers will be most known for the play last night and having an extremely long touchdownless streak to start his career.
I see Myers back here on a team friendly deal, at points of the season he and Rham have been the offense.. if you wanna call it an offense.

Well....where are they then?
Bill doesn't generally bring in any outside personnel in the middle of any season, unless they had been in NE in the past.

A lot of coach-player interactions and schematic planning seems to emerge in training camp and in offseason planning.

After all these decades, he's not likely to change

I was referring to Myers....

You cannot franchise Meyers. The franchise tag for a WR next year is expected to be $18.4 million. Meyers is probably looking at a deal that might pay that out over three years. If Belichick franchises Meyers, I will be convinced that he lost it.

The future isn't bright, but we are lucky we've seen a freak 20 year run of dominance. Seriously, it's unprecedented. All good things come to an end and it seems like that time is running out with Bill. His connections have run dry and no coordinators are going to line up to work with him (especially now). Regardless, if they were to win the next 3 straight or not, the team needs help personnel wise and in coaching so I'd want a solid plan from Bill going forward. If he can't provide it, the Krafts need to cut the cord now.

Do you think Bill cares less about winning than he does hurting his friend's feelings? I don't. The reporting on this team since Bill got here has indicated that Bill takes everyone to task in the film room, from Brady all the way down to the last man. I don't think he would stick with Patricia when it was obvious it wasn't working. Frankly I think Patricia was the back up plan for an OC that came to fruition after Obrien leaving Alabama fell through.

I just can't imagine Bill sticking with Matt P. when it is obvious that he's done a bad job. Sticking with him in season vs the offseason is a huge difference.

Ok, thanks for the helpful information.. I think he'd stay on a team friendly deal say 3 years 15 million something like that..

Mac is so close to his 8th TD pass this season.......
