The thing that's most disappointing to me about this season is how earthshatteringly stupid everyone plays.
Used to be that even the scrubs, even the ones with little talent, at least played smart. But now even the starters play like total idiots.
And that's 100% on the coaches. Very disappointing. Is Bill like "eff it -- I'll just phone it in and hang out here long enough to pass Shula"? Normally I'd say no way on earth. But with as dumb as this team plays I have to wonder...
Used to be fun - they weren't the best or the fastest or most athletic but they were disciplined and smart and that more than made up for their slightly lesser talent.
Now they're not only less talented, but also not disciplined nor smart. How did we get here?
I cannot be the only one who, after 20 years of dominance and 6 SB's, said we are playing with house money as fans. Nothing else matters.
They are putting it to the test though.
I was seriously upset after the Miami bullshyt when Group attempted to play defense. But that was a high stakes game. And that loss did allow us to lose HFA and then beat the Chiefs in KC. So in the end, it was worth it.
But this one doesn't even upset me. Maybe I just don't see this team as a playoff team anyway. Or maybe I really am content after a 20 year run no other fans have ever seen.
Maybe I'm just filled with Christmas spirit (and some alcohol).
I'm with you. I would have liked a playoff appearance, I'm a sucker for that stuff regardless of how low our odds would have been. But I'm perfectly fine taking whatever lumps come about onwards. We've witnessed more success than any other football fan base has even if this team wins nothing from now until we're gone .
If Meyers really just completely went rogue and did that... the old Bill Belichick cuts him. Meyers ain't good enough to endure that mistake. And frankly it's an indictment on this team that Meyers might survive it because he might be the best WR on the team. That's how many levels the ineptitude goes.
First the players were stupid. Second the coaches did a piss poor job of coaching situational awareness or at least making sure the players understood it. Third he might not be held accountable because he might be too important a player on this piss poor team.
Before this season start, I was thinking we would be an 8-9 team. I have a long standing track record of being hypercritical of Bill to the point I have received warnings from our admins. I watch a ton of nfl football and I was actually coming around to the idea that we were playoff bound this year and heading for 9-8, 10-7. I have been somewhat impressed lately watching the Pats grind out wins. I think Bill has done a stellar job on the defensive end as is usual. This team is slightly above average this year but extremely solid and competitive as always under BB. We won’t go into the offense which is a bit challenged to put it mildly. That was simply a boneheaded play by Jakobi. Like once in a lifetime level screwup. You cannot blame Mac for that either. You trying tackling freight train chandler jones. Anyway, we’re back on the 8-9 trajectory. Not horrendous, but certainly in the slightly above average range. Where we go from here is anyone’s guess. We are spoiled fans after two decades of total dominance.

As morally/emotionally satisfying as cutting him might be, given that he's likely to be one of the best free agent WRs next season, they might as well keep him for the possibility of a comp pick.
Blame the coaches all you want and they deserve their share but you cant let the players off the hook like this. Cant coach "dont be stupid" . At what point do we blame this stupid set of players with no leadership who are always whining about playcalls and penalties and yet cant execute a simple call to get down and get to OT ? You really tthink if they called a hail mary these morons wouldve executed it correctly ? More likely they woulde been sacked or turned the ball over and you would blame the staff again.
There is a reason our offense is so simple and putrid. OC is out of his depth and players cant execute anything that is called. its both.
How does BB address the team after this?
The long flight home... the next 3 games... I mean, the team knows they're done.
This is the 4th straight season of the team tanking down the stretch.

Then gets a 15 yard penalty and raiders kick FG to win, Mac is a dumb piece of **** for not knowing better than to commit a penalty there
Hopefully I’m wrong but I predict that this will be the new norm on this board, even if Mac moves on and they inevitably cut Zappe, any QB we have will forever have factions blaming them when we’re losing
Brady leaving and this team being journeymen now is a disaster for an angry and miserable Boston fanbase
We basically have a bunch of Felgers on this board now and they’ll never go away because we’ll never have another dynasty like we did with Brady
This will 100% be the case because fans are spoiled by Brady and most don't know how most of the league had it the last 20 years. These were the same people that wanted Brady gone in 2019 and were crying that we gave up Jimmy. Then they were freaking out about Cam and wanted Stidham. Now Mac is dealing with the same mediocre skill players and now bad OC's on top of it.
Fact is we haven't had a good offense in 4 years. That's a long time to not restock on the proper skill talent and keep the line sharp. Until this is addressed, it's always going to be the QB's fault with some people because they are used to the idea of having the GOAT and him elevating mid talent (only that talent was leagues better than this)
"I'll learn from it and do better in the future", says the guy who only has 3 games left with the team before he becomes a free agent and signs elsewhere.
