Bill Belichick: Highest Paid Coach in North American Sports at $20m per

Reid wasn't north of 70 when he took the KC job.
Bill would still 100% find a job. And the truth is if he has a good roster and the team has decent cap management he would make them playoff level contenders.

A lot of people would be in for a rude awakening if they saw this roster with an average coach. It's not that good on paper and Bill makes it seem a lot better than it is.

Does BB breaking Shula's record really make any difference to fans of the team? I believe most fans would rather accelerate building a seriously competitive team and building the offense into at least a semi capable unit than drag through the swamp with BB as he plods towards Shula's record.
Short term no. Longterm yes.

Example:

10-20 years from now I think you will 100% have Patriots fans saying that they would have rather have had endured putting off a rebuild and struggling a year or two (we haven't done so hot anyways) with Brady and then getting the big moment he retires as a Patriot than jettisoning him, watching him win somewhere else, but having some room to try to be competitive again. And if you don't believe me, Lakers fans sucked for several years to keep Kobe on the roster, but it's one of their favorite and most memorable moments having the farewell tour and final game and they will remember that more the sucking

So yeah big milestone moments like that do ultimately matter to fans. Ask yourself this... is it more likely that in the next 2-3 years Patriots fans remember the game where Belichick gets the coaching wins record and have that moment and have a big monument to it in the stadium.... or whatever we do by losing him early? Because really unless you do the low percentage chance of winning a Super Bowl... it's doubtful

Excellent post. Well thought out points. But I'm not at all in the crowd believing Belichick can jump to another team and make it click. It's not currently clicking in a spot he's been for 23 years. Belichick may go somewhere else and fail miserably or if he lands in an ideal situation then he may go out a winner. But Belichick's mere presence alone isn't going to guarantee anything either way.

The point I was making about Belichick is he definitely has an eye on breaking Shula's record and he'll go it elsewhere to do it if necessary. As loyal as Kraft has been to Belichick I don't believe he'll tolerate Belichick inching toward Shula's record with 6-8 wins per season. It will take something dramatic (like losing out for the season at 0-7) for Kraft to consider replacing Belichick now but it's not off the table if the has consecutive sub .500 seasons.
The best chance Belichick has of passing Shula is with NE. Why would he take the risk of going somewhere else and failing. That'll just reinforce the TB > BB talk. His legacy is cemented. Kraft isn't going to fire him outright. He'll give Bill the option to resign/retire and Bill will take it. He's in his 70s. He's got nothing else to prove. He probably knows he's not winning another SB. At his winning % since 2020, it'll take him 3.7 seasons to reach Shula.

At some point people need to realize that a 73 yo HC has very little chance of success. There's only been 1 and he was an interim coach.

Andy Reid got pushed out of Philly and immediately made it work in KC with a separate GM. Let’s not pretend the Bill would have trouble finding a job and there’s a good chance he could make it work.
Reid was 55 when he went to KC. He also wasn't demanding to be the GM. Do we really believe that Bill will go somewhere else to work under another GM? That would be like a demotion to him. Hell, if that's the case why not just offer Kraft to hire a GM and he'll stay here as the HC. He won't do it.

A good chance he could make it work? I mean, he's not making it work in his own system with his hand picked players and staff.

Is Bill really that desperate to beat Shula in a meaningless wins record? I'm not buying it.

Bill has been an average coach with this roster, so no I wouldn't be in for a rude awakening. A creative offensive minded HC could do better with this roster.

If true, then the Krafts have already flushed next season down the toilet; and more likely than not '24 too, whereupon our new GM will be looking for a new QB for the '25 season...
What's also is being forgotten is Mac's in his rookie deal, each season is pivotal as far as a franchise to either pick up his 5th year option or to know if he's your Guy.

This season is so wasted, this could have been A huge jump for Mac and the team.. But the chemist had to go away from what was working and change the offense so his buddies can understand it.

I'm starting to feel like whenever BB does step down hire a coach and GM separately.

Why doesn't Bill give Thomas Dimitroff and Jon Robinson a call in the offseason? Sure, they'd be retreads, but they both drafted some very talented players and Bill could use more experienced voices in the building. I hope the Krafts push this after the season to get some help in the front office and force Bill poach some coordinators.

Pro Bowl and or All Pro's Jon Robinson has drafted for offense/defense since 2016:
(1st round) Jack Conklin, (2nd round) Derrick Henry, (2nd round) Harold Landry, (3rd round) Kevin Byard, (1st round) Jeffrey Simmons, (2nd round) AJ Brown.

Pro Bowl and or All Pro's Thomas Dimetroff has drafted on offense/defense since 2016:
(1st round) Dion Jones, (2nd round) Keanu Neal, (3rd round) Austin Hooper, (1st round) Calvin Ridley, (1st round) AJ Terrell.

Pro Bowl and or All Pro's Bill has drafted for offense/defense since 2016:
(3rd round) Joe Thuney.

Make the calls Bill.

And whose fault for the bad roster is it?

I think Groh is the guy now.

That is right Parcells wanted bills role is why Parcells left NE. Bill wouldn't take the NE job unless he had the GM/coach role. Bills system worked fine until he decided to change the offense.. and have unqualified individuals running it. I can't even tell you what the heck you can even call this offense.

Why? He's got a guy that made the most historic play in superbowl history as he tells it.. all those facts you put out there just further proof BB was ignoring the draft scouts and experts. Either he makes the changes needed for the good of the team like he always said or ownership will do it for him

I think Groh is the guy now.
I've been trying to stress this for a while, Groh was put in position by ownership. Groh as they say is a excellent talent evaluator, I of course think BB is also, but he ignores what the scouts report.

The roster is fine add a few pieces on offense and defense and were right there..

What's needed is an innovative, creative, play caller to really put players in position to thrive. We all know that's what's missing!

If you mean the literal definition of a few - 4 or 5 - then I feel that we're more than that many away from being Legit contenders... as in like 4 or 5 - or 6 - on Each side of the LOS... Include a new Punter and might as well make it a baker's dozen.

Folk won't be around much longer either. Not to belittle kickers or punters but they'll figure that out. On the list of needs it's not something I stress. 4 or 5 on each side of the ball is not accurate on defense at all. They are really good despite whatever you might be worried about.

Even on offense that's not accurate. I'd say they need 2 tackles and a QB to either step up his game or come in from elsewhere. LT and Q are probably the 2 most important pieces to any offense so that's big enough on its own. If we solve those two things and Bill is still here we will figure the rest out and win another title.

Still a chance Mac can be it and if not still a chance Bill finds one but obviously the timeline to do it is getting shorter.

The problem with not having Bill is if we find the QB many a coaches have still screwed that up. No guarantees we find the next Q in time or anytime soon.

To clarify, meaning the current roster is ok. Need to add some peices of course to make this roster play off caliber. No NFL team is great at every single position.

However if we can add some elite players at the skill positions would help!

O line is the most glaring need!

Groh is a BB guy.
He is part of his staff, however put in a big position of player personnel by ownership. Even though GMs can choose thier staff ownership still has say on who, what, when, where and why!

Bill the coach as they say has been the same... it's the coaches under him. I'm sure Patricia and judge maybe in other facets good coaches. However offense is the most important part of the ball. Need to score ,have to keep pace with other teams. They should have no part of the offense. As you stated a creative OC is Sorely lacking.

Respectfully, I totally disagree on this one. This roster isn't that great and I think it's probably a badly constructed roster which is on Bill, that looks better than it is on paper because Bill is a great coach. Especially the defense. You get an average coach in there, and this defense plays to their skill level without Bill's scheming.

If you add some elite pieces on offense, and at least one on defense your talking about a playoff caliber team.. O line is the most concerning as they have been bad this season.
