Mac: "I want to be coached harder"

FWIW, Albert Breer said on the radio that he spoke to someone on the Patriots coaching staff and they feel a lot of Jones' play this season is because he just doesn't trust anything anymore. He runs around in the backfield because he doesn't trust his o-line to keep the pocket clean enough to step up in the pocket. He takes off running for yardage because he doesn't trust his receivers to get open whether it is the routes they are running or they just cannot get open. He forces some dumb throws because he feels he has to make plays on his own when they aren't there.

Take it for what it is worth because that is what a Patriots' coach is saying.

Personally, I think a lot of it is legit. Some of it is Jones is letting his situation get too much to him and he has to trust the people around him at times and don't freelance like this.

But I agree with Breer off this point, this year is a lost year for Jones and you really cannot draw any conclusions about his playing ability and his future because everything is such a mess.
I just dug this out after seeing your post (thank you, BTW ) and found the segment he was on (looks like he said it last Friday) and transcribed the part you mentioned:

“Go back to last night and watch the two quarterbacks and watch how easy everything looks for Allen," said Breer. "Look how hard everything looks for Mac. It feels like … It makes it hard for me to believe he's really ever going to be a whole lot more than what he is.”

“Everything looks hard. Getting the ball to certain spots on the field looks hard. When the play breaks down, and he's got to escape the pocket, it looks like he's doing everything he can to get away from the defense. Where when you watch Josh Allen, when he’s running away from the defense, his eyes are downfield. His shoulders are square. He is such a great athlete. Like that play that you mentioned [the TD pass to Gabe Davis], where he's throwing to Gabe Davis, watch him move on that play. It doesn't look like it's hard. Whereas with Mac Jones, you see him, and it looks like he's in a full sprint when he’s trying to get away from the defense.”

“So what we're dealing with, we talked about margins for error, with Mac, the margin for error is so much smaller. And I think the other part, to be fair to Mac, like last night, it started to look like he’s losing trust, and I’ve felt this way for a little while, and I talked to some teams that have studied him that have said this to me, it doesn’t look like he trusts anything. It doesn’t look like he trusts the play call, it doesn’t look like he trusts his teammates, it doesn’t look like he trusts anything anymore. And that’s how you ruin a young quarterback.”

That's just great. I thought he looked like he was trying to imitate Mahomes. Now it is confirmed.

Reminds me of:

Mac, I played with Patrick Mahomes. I knew Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes was a friend of mine. Mac, you're no Patrick Mahomes.

LOL! Why did I figure this would be your response.

This is more like. Jones saw Andrew Luck have a shorten career because his coaches and o-line nearly get him literally killed and have his career end before he was 30 because of it and doesn't want that to happen to him.

He isn't trying to "imitate" Mahomes because he thinks he is that type of QB or he is in the same stratosphere as Mahomes, he is doing it because he doesn't want a season ending injury.

Mac seems confident enough to throw it into coverage targeting Parker (which I like), but not the others.

Gotta ask.....did you rump-swab former starter N'Keal Harry during his atrocious tenure in NE because "all Patriots deserve blind loyalty from the fanboy contingent"?

Is demonizing Patricia a 'NO GO" as well?
You're the man Borgie.

No, and if you read my posts you would know that. But gotta ask: speaking of rumps, can you find yours with one hand or do you need two?

I guess it depends on how you define "demonizing."

Baker Mayfield throwing dimes and spittin rhymes.

Sign the Beast.

Mayfield's problems are because he is an entitled turd who refused to work to get better and had a horrible attitude combined with the fact he was destroyed by Browns and their substandard revolving coaching staff. To compare him with Jones other than the latter part is bunk.

Again, I provided proof he throws with anticipation. Back up your claim with video or something else showing he didn't throw with anticipation last year.

It is ironic that the Patriots simplified the offense and it is making it harder to run.

Jones isn't great on the run and he should be evading the rush by shifting in the pocket. Unfortunately, the o-line isn't consistently even allowing Jones to have a pocket to step up in and he doesn't trust it. So it looks like he is imitating Allen and Mahomes out of desperation. And of course, i doubt Judge or Patricia are coaching him up to how to best scramble out of the pocket to make plays down the field better.

But it is now clear Breer got this information from the Patriots coaching staff. I would love to know if the last sentence about ruining a young QB was Breer's take or what the Patriots' coach told Breer.

How can he have confidence with Agholor where he gave up on a route that could have been a TD against the Vikes and fumbled a ball earlier in the season which would have been a huge gainer in a critical situation. Thornton has dropped a few passes he should have caught. Bourne has been marginalized. Smith is Smith. He doesn't have a lot of options when his receivers are in coverage.

You're cute, though I am not sure I like that dress pattern. Kind of tacky. "Rob" is an odd screen name for such a pretty girl.

I am talking about in general.

He seems to not look at half the field from what I have seen in person. I've seen Smith running open multiple times.

I don't understand why he has forgotten about Henry for most of the year, either. It's like, "where is Jacobi or Rham?" all the time. I like those guys, but he needs to do a better job of scanning the field.

And I know that the coaching and OL sucks, and that's where it starts. But still...

Yawn! Just because I won't buy into a false narrative that Jones doesn't throw with anticipation, I am Mac Jones' girlfriend.

But when all you have is irrational hate for Jones and no substance, I guess this is what you bring to the debate.

The question is whether he isn't scanning the field or is the simplified offense not allowing him to scan the field. Last year he had no problem checking down. In fact, the Jones haters last year called him a Check Down Charlie (which at times he did check down too quickly). Now the knock on him (right or wrong) is he stares down receivers and doesn't check down all his progressions. What was the change? Was it Jones? Or was it the environment around him (coaching staff, o-line, etc.) or a mixture of both?

A player doesn't do a complete one 180 where all his strengths from one year becomes weaknesses the next without outside forces playing into it.

LOL! I defend Mac vigorously because of the irrational hate. I don't love Mac. Don't even know if he will be the QB of the future. It is just my debating style to go in hard against people who I feel are making up reasons to hate someone I don't feel deserves the hate.

I used to be call a Brady hater and a Belichick apologist too.

I don't know what the problem is, but it's brutal to watch. And boring to watch, actually. I've never turned off a game before this season.

Ultimately I blame the rocket scientist's boss.

Please don't remind us of those plays they burnt an image in my head and the nerve of Agholor acting like he was hurt.

Can't believe you're using and dissing Sophie to make your point. What did she ever do to you?

Miss Rob: please tell Mac to find Bourne he was literally his favorite target last year.

I blame Belichick too. I gave him the benefit of the doubt going into the season with Patricia and Judge, but it has been a disaster.

They should have never have changed the offense. They needed an experience play caller in there with a young QB. And they need a real QB coach who can talk Jones and help him work through this. From the rumors, Judge was ready to dump Mac for Zappe which tells me he isn't coaching the young QB like he should have. Also, they should have never put Hoyer on IR because he cannot be there to be a sounding board for Jones while on IR. At least Hoyer knows enough that he could help coach Jones out of the bad tendencies he is developing.

But all this goes straight to the top. This is on Belichick. He should have never put the offense or Jones in this position.

Yawn! See this is why you Mac Haters do. Make one play the entire referendum on the guy.
