It's a bit telling that we had to go back to over a calendar year in the past (including plays from college) to pull up examples of Jones throwing with anticipation. I'm sure examples could be found from this season; he's had some nice throws, but it very much demonstrates the fact that Jones hasn't been all that good since pre-bye of 2021.
I fully agree with the notion that Jones cannot be entirely/fairly evaluated given the performance of the OL and the coaching situation. I also agree with the notion that Jones hasn't consistently demonstrated much to be encouraged about, either.
At what point do you play Zappe just to get an idea of how he can perform under the current circumstances? We know the situation at OL and OC/QBC is not good. Neither problem is getting better until the offseason; both require more significant personnel turnover and fresh starts that aren't feasible during the season.
We know - under the current OL/OC/QBC circumstances - the offense led by Mac Jones isn't producing much of anything. It's perfectly possible - if not likely - that over the course of several games, the offense would also stink up the joint under Zappe for those same reasons (lousy OL and coaching), but we don't know that for certain. Again, the OC/QBC/OL situation is not drastically changing during the season. It's much more viable to play Zappe for a few games to see how he performs under the current circumstances, than it is to begin with a new OC/QBC.
Basically, my point is that they need to figure a lot of stuff out going into this next offseason. OC, QB Coach, QB. If you want to start experimenting with variables to better understand the situation, the only truly feasible change to make to those above three roles is QB (for the time being).
Your hard on for Wac Jones is ridiculous but let's give peace chance. IF and that's a big IF in your case Mac Jones plays well in our next two games win or lose I will accept him as our Starting QB going forward.I just gave examples. How about his scouting reports? Is good enough for you?
- Absolutely a rhythm and anticipatory thrower suitable for any playbook. Threw his receivers open frequently, giving them chances to make catches in bounds and/or make plays after the catch.

Jones possesses two attributes that Shanahan most values in a quarterback: Anticipation and accuracy.
What scouts say about Alabama QB Jones heading into draft
Alabama quarterback Mac Jones appears to be a strong candidate for the 49ers to select at No. 3 overall.www.nbcsports.com
A senior prospect, Jones is the most accurate quarterback in the 2021 draft class in terms of ball placement, timing and anticipation. Jones bided his time at Alabama—sitting behind Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa—before replacing the latter following his injury. Jones beat out highly-touted recruit Bryce Young before the 2020 season and flourished in a year that saw him throw 41 touchdowns to just four interceptions. Jones is a super smart prospect who has not struggled to adapt, pick up verbiage or implement concepts very quickly. He’s an anticipatory thrower who is sharp on breaking routes, throws a beautiful deep ball and will clear defenders with his eyes. When the pocket is clean, Jones is surgical with ball placement and timing. He has the highest floor of any of the 2021 quarterback prospects thanks to his accuracy and football IQ.

Could Mac Jones provide the relief the Patriots are seeking at quarterback?www.si.com
I know you guys hate the guy, but pushing an incredibly false narrative that Jones doesn't have anticipations in his throws doesn't help your cause. Jones' anticipation was one of the biggest reasons why people thought Jones was such a perfect fit for the Patriots' offense coming out of college. Of course, Patricia scrapped that offense and is now running an offense that doesn't play to Jones' strengths.
Your hard on for Wac Jones is ridiculous but let's give peace chance. IF and that's a big IF in your case Mac Jones plays well in our next two games win or lose I will accept him as our Starting QB going forward.

Allegedly really?? Wac Jones is Mac Jones upside down creative right yeah I know I beat you to it."Wac" Jones? Something seriously is wrong with you to continually demonize a starting player on the team you allegedly support. Just cut this ridiculous, nonsensical crap.
And before you go there the answer is no, I don't have a "hard on" for Mac, believe he has met expectations this season or assume he's "the answer" forevermore. But I WILL assume the Patriots believe he gives the team its best chance to win. A while ago I asked you to explain why your binky isn't playing in his place and you had nothing. So again, just STFU about this once and for all.

The risk is bigger with Jones until they're convinced one way or the other that he is/isn't the guy is due to the fifth-year option, which they'll have to make a decision on next season. They're in a great spot with Zappe because he's rookie, since there's no rush to make any decision there. At what point do you play Zappe just to get an idea of how he can perform under the current circumstances? Sir yes sir.Yes, allegedly REALLY. You know what you're doing, just drop the crap.
RPO Mac I think he could be such a QB he runs decently but I don't think he throws well on the run. It's funny how other QB's make plays against us on broken plays but Mac can't seem to find anybody. Him not trusting Trusting his Caching or Teammates seems legit but really make things interesting going into next. If he still struggles the rest of the season I think it will be open season on the Patriots QB position in 2023. Also I wouldn't rule out another QB Drafted with upside Hoyer probably will retire.FWIW, Albert Breer said on the radio that he spoke to someone on the Patriots coaching staff and they feel a lot of Jones' play this season is because he just doesn't trust anything anymore. He runs around in the backfield because he doesn't trust his o-line to keep the pocket clean enough to step up in the pocket. He takes off running for yardage because he doesn't trust his receivers to get open whether it is the routes they are running or they just cannot get open. He forces some dumb throws because he feels he has to make plays on his own when they aren't there.
Take it for what it is worth because that is what a Patriots' coach is saying.
Personally, I think a lot of it is legit. Some of it is Jones is letting his situation get too much to him and he has to trust the people around him at times and don't freelance like this.
But I agree with Breer off this point, this year is a lost year for Jones and you really cannot draw any conclusions about his playing ability and his future because everything is such a mess.
Ian: in his Third Season?? I think they have a ways to go on that decision. The risk is bigger with Jones until they're convinced one way or the other that he is/isn't the guy is due to the fifth-year option, which they'll have to make a decision on next season. People hoping for Zappe just need to be patient. If Jones ends up being - and stays - the guy, that means we're winning football games and things are O.K. But if not, then Zappe will likely get his opportunity, and hopefully, that goes well also. And they'd still have time to extend him also, so they've got time to be smart about both players.
I meant they need to evaluate him next season to make that decision. Although, it's crazy to think we'll be that far into it by then.Ian: in his Third Season?? I think they have a ways to go on that decision.
That's just great. I thought he looked like he was trying to imitate Mahomes. Now it is confirmed.FWIW, Albert Breer said on the radio that he spoke to someone on the Patriots coaching staff and they feel a lot of Jones' play this season is because he just doesn't trust anything anymore. Definitely explains why we think guys like Bourne - Parker and Agholor are not open. RPO Mac has taken off again love that 50 yard run that netted 2 whole yards last game. Shows you how great Mahomes is he's having a Great year with decent WR's.That's just great. I thought he looked like he was trying to imitate Mahomes. Now it is confirmed.
Reminds me of:
Mac, I played with Patrick Mahomes. I knew Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes was a friend of mine. Mac, you're no Patrick Mahomes.
Baker Mayfield throwing dimes and spittin rhymes.I just gave examples. How about his scouting reports? Is good enough for you?

Gotta ask.....did you rump-swab former starter N'Keal Harry during his atrocious tenure in NE because "all Patriots deserve blind loyalty from the fanboy contingent"?"Wac" Jones?
