BB is still a great coach. He made a decision with MP that was a big mistake. The problem is correctable if BB is able to acknowledge that this is not working. If not, BB will become part of the problem.
I see no indication from past behavior he wouldn't acknowledge a mistake and work to fix it. Scary part is what does he consider the biggest problem OL, Coaching, or QB. Identifying the biggest might mask one of the other two problems and how drastic does he think he needs to be.

Bottom line for me is first let's see if it can be salvaged at all this year. Then in the off-season something needs to give and depending on his choices I think leash could get real short real quick. I still think BB deserves better than most on here give him and not ready to even consider life without Bill but if he doubles down on Matty P and/or Mac and it's still wrong then it might be time.

He fired Dean Peas. I think he fired the Gooch. He has fired coaches. I think he will move Patricia and Judge though. I don’t think he has a choice. Patricia is a disaster and Kraft won’t let him coach the offense again next year.
I honestly don't think The krafts are going to fire BB, but as I said here on the forum there will definitely be some staff adjustments in the off season.. to me.. this season was a waste for the development of Mac.. this was probably in my opinion the worst game of the season... however seems like I say that each time we lose.. we show some traits of a team we can be, buy as of late we just continue to show those traits of a bad undisciplined team.. another myles Bryant blunder, no resistance in the secondary

No Tyquan Thornton, no attempts to test the bills secondary.. fans like me are just utterly confused about this team and what exactly are they trying to do this season..

The pats had an above average offense last year with a rookie QB that was 10th in the NFL in 3rd down pct that scored 27 PPG last year. They had three dependable weapons in Meyers, Bourne & Henry to go with a pretty good run game. Here are all the changes on offense this season that's led to them having a worse offense than the Cam Newton year with Byrd as WR2:

  • Name a failed HC, overrated DC the de-facto OC & OL coach
  • Name a failed HC, ex-ST coach the QB coach
  • Move an above average LT Wynn to RT in a contract year. Wynn has imploded this season.
  • Move an above average RT Brown to LT despite him making RT money. He's been inconsistent and undependable.
  • Phase out one of the most efficient WRs in the NFL in Kendrick Bourne from the offense
  • Phase out a top 10 TE in the NFL in Hunter Henry from the offense
  • Trade a draft pick & feature a jumpball WR in an offense that is historically about spacing & getting open
  • Incorporate zone scheme run concepts with an offense with power gap OL
  • Severely cut down on play action & be one of the lowest teams in motion usage in the NFL
The cherry on top is potentially ruining a franchise QB in his second year. These moves fall under BB & he's failed the team this year. There was a season to be had with an underrated defense that can get after the QB IMO.

It's now on Kraft to force changes on offense similar to how he did in the front office when they inevitably go 8-9 to finish the season.

THe media also has failed to do its job and hold Bill more accountable. Every press conference I've seen the reporters are asking dumb questions and not trying to piss him off. Mike Reiss is a nice guy, but reporters like him don't want to put the screws to BB because of the past 20 years of success.

Then Bill will be gone because there is no way Bill will let Kraft tell him how to build his coaching staff.
I don't think Kraft can outright just tell Bill how to build his coaching staff but I think he can certainly put him on notice that doubling down on Patricia and/or Mac could if wrong cost him his job. Obviously it's his team and he can do what he wants but in fairness to Bill I'd assume he'd play it more like that.

I also don't thinks it's fair to Bill to think that he wouldn't take action on his own if he feels it necessary. He'll take action to fix this even if Kraft were an absentee owner.

Fair take

I think firing Belichick isn't off the table if he loses the team and last night was the beginning of a major crap show for the rest of the season, but it would have to be extreme for Kraft to fire Belichick.

As for Jones' development, I have said the Pats have done to Jones what perennial top 10 pick teams do with the QBs they draft. They are ruining Jones. Maybe permanently. I don't know if he is the future, but he isn't being given a shot to become and develop into a good or great starting QB.

The Patriots have one of the smallest coaching staffs in the league if not the smallest. I think that is showing with all the stupid mistake and penalties. I think coaches are spread so thin with many of them having very little experience at the job they are doing. It is the small details that Belichick used to excel at that suffers.

We talk about them ruining Jones, but they may be ruining other young guys like Strange and Thornton. Both these guys look to need some hand holding and I am wondering if they are getting it. When does Patricia have time to give Strange extra work when he is developing and implementing a game plan all week? Thornton has Branch, but Branch is also probably spread thin picking up the slack for other coaches.

Coaching, coaching, coaching. It all stems from replacing McDaniels with Patricia.

Who is in charge of the offense and OL? Patricia. Hire real coaches. If the OL and Mac still look like this then maybe I'll say they are the problem.

But right now when all your players regress and it's essentially the same team. It's the coaching

At first I found Bill's approach in his pressers to be somewhat funny, but that went away fast after I talked to a friend who's a member of the media and has to ask Bill questions at times. Bill doesn't have any respect for them and it shows.

I don’t blame him. When he quit the Jets he gave an intelligent, earnest and detailed explanation for his abrupt departure. He was ridiculed mercilessly by the media. He learned that day not to trust most media members and to provide curt answers with little meaning to their questions.

I think Kraft will tell Belichick he needs to get a real OC and get position coaches with experience for key positions like the o-line. He will not tell Belichick to fire or hire anyone specific. That isn't stepping on toes. Owners force head coaches to replace staff quite a bit.

BB won’t be fired he will be asked to resign like Coughlin was with the Giants. I’ve said once you hear the locker room start speaking up about the coaching and the direction of the team then it might be near the end. That’s starting to happen.

I’m fine with BB sticking around but he has to be put on notice that improvements are required next season starting with the coaching staff or the team will be going in a different direction. As things are right now why would any FA on offense want to play here?

I'll say what I have said all along:

1) Mac Jones, after a good first-half rookie season, has shown no consistent evidence of being the sort of qb worth holding onto as a "franchise quarterback.

However...

2) Because the offensive coaching is abysmally (weirdly, outlandishly, yet completely predictably) terrible, we can form no final assessment of Mac Jones.

So,

3) I blame Bill Belichick for this, as he himself encouraged us to do. If I were the Krafts, I would have some d----d pointed questions for him, the sort of question where if you don't have a d---d good answer, you're in trouble.

4) Matt and Joe MUST be fired and replaced NOW, not because we have a legit shot at the playoffs - we don't - but because we have to find out what, if anything, we have in Mac Jones, and we can't find that out for so long as he is burdened with Mickey Mouse, dimwit coaching and playcalling.

Time for Bill to step down, he quit on the team last night. 3 time outs and 1:50 left.
Time management has become as issue. We used to laugh at other team's clock management, now it's the Pats that are becoming the joke.

We don't suck but we are teetering it could go either way the rest of the year and the next few years. Scary spot.

I was think about how bad the play calling actually was last night. I just said in another thread that after the initial success with the original game plan the play calling was schizophrenic. Here are a few examples:
  1. The first drive in the second half, Stevenson runs for two great runs to start the drive and gets stuffed on second and one. Jones does a sneak on third down and then they pass the rest of the drive without a run.
  2. Right before the half where the Pats had little time left. Patricia calls for a delayed draw run on second and one which they didn't pick up the first down and were forced to call a time out. Then he calls a QB sneak on third down to get the first down which forced the Pats to call their last time out. There was like 30 seconds left and it limited the Patriots to what they could do because they had to throw to the sidelines. They should have passed on second down and try to pick up a decent amount of yards and try to get out of bounds. If the pass failed, it would stop the clock and still be 3rd and one and preserved at least one of the timeouts.
  3. Patricia stopped calling play action passes for Jones until the Pats got down by three scores midway through the fourth quarter when the Bills didn't care if the Pats ran the ball and just played to stop the pass. They were never going to be fooled by that play action at that point.
  4. They didn't go into a hurry up in the fourth. He was having the offense to huddle up after every play. That blame goes to Belichick too.
  5. On the drive where the Pats started on their own 9, he had Kevin Harris run on first down for negative one yard. Harris' only run of the night. Stevenson picked up 16 yards on two plays later. Too bad they needed 17 to get a first down.
  6. On the pass that got a lot of coverage last night where Jones threw to Meyers on third down because there was no one else open. Part of the reason is because he had two receivers run identical routes right next to each other allowing the defense to easily cover both players. It could have been that one or both the receivers ran the wrong routes, but if they didn't it was a play drawn up to fail.

There is no point to have this team in this postseason. None.

Play out the remaining games and let Mac do what he wants. Let him throw downfield. Let him throw more INTs because that is what will be coming if the Pats give him his way. Unless its vs some slug of an NFL team that is down on its luck. Some NFL team like Birmingham College back in the Alabama glory days.

The Pats have one of the best Secondary's in the NFL. Did you see some of the throws that Allen made? Its nothing but a pack of lies and BS from anyone claiming that Jones can do that.

My guess is bill hires a Reich or bill O'Brien and Patricia/judge are moved to other "roles" in the organization.

Unfortunately though that's 3 different offenses in 3 years for your young QB. That's what we used to complain about the Jets and how they ruined guys
That's been my fear all along and why my leash for Patricia has been longer. Short of a complete turn around in the next few weeks I'm not sure there's much choice.

Theoretically the krafts can tell and do whatever they want, Bill works for them not vice versa.. they as RK has stated have allowed Bill to be the general manager as well as head coach, rightfully hes earned That while developing #12.

Bill is a 1st ballot hall of fame coach.. no doubt about it.. however his staff doesn't have the talent that it once did.. I sense players are going to start to sense reality that they can't compete with good teams.. and start to make personal decisions about thier bodies.. especially a guy like Myers who's a pending free agent..

It's just disheartening seeing this proud franchise is in some sort of dissary

I checked out at halftime after watching another missed field goal after an absolutely HORRENDOUS set of play calling.

Like what the **** are we even doing here right now?

a two minute drill past mid field and patricia is calling draws up the middle and ****ing qb sneaks with 30 seconds left burning our remaining time outs, and short little 3 yard out routes.

I could call a better game with my eyes closed and a horse kicking me in the balls.

Patricia saw a screen go for a td, and then the next 8 play calls were all screens that went nowhere.

The dude sucks

oh and he's the o-line coach, I wonder if matty P is the one teaching trent brown to try and block people by their shoelaces?

This si the worst this team has looked since ive been alive.

Watching last night came up with a few thoughts
  • The bills are good, but not that good. That game was ripe for the taking
  • Yet again stupid penalties killed us, especially on the online
  • A rookie on Diggs? He's going to win all the time
  • Half the bills online was sick injured or out ... Couldn't tell based on how their running game controlled the game
  • There is a major disconnect between Mac and his coaches
  • If Mac was still in college, I think he'd hit the transfer portal after this season
  • I'm willing to give Mac until year 3 ... But right now? He's not the answer at QB
  • For all our speed, the defense is still too slow
  • Folk missing a 48 yard fg? Truly we are snake bit...
  • Did I mention penalties are killing us?
  • Our first two picks in the upcoming draft should be OTs
  • We need better coaching because stupid penalties are killing us.
  • Opposing teams know what we are going to run, and I think sometimes they understand what we are doing better than our offense
  • I dislike this guy - BoB - but you think he might sign a two or three year deal as OC?
  • I don't think at this point we are making the playoffs
  • Go Pats
