I feel like Zappe's pocket presence remained very good last week, the batted passes were just killer.

He'll learn to look away until the last possible second. These are the things that aren't taught at a small school like WKU.

Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that this would've been an even easier victory if Zappy had started instead of Corky?
No doubt in my mind. Mac almost gave the game away again w/ that awful pick 6. He's not getting any better. All I hear are excuses for him.

Zappe is not getting the reps he needs to get comfortable with the first team skill position players. I was not surprised by the second half showing. The weeks he got majority of reps, he was good. Against the Bears felt like the Green Bay all over again.
Let’s see how the season goes. Mac’s picks are too easy for the opposing teams. That is what gets me. The Jets dropped another one he threw right at them. That pick 6 rerun was the end of Jones. The penalty did not contribute to the throw but saved his career for another week. At least let them make great plays instead just throw right at them.

They’re going to push this thing until Mac either improves, or implodes on national television… he imploded yesterday and got bailed out by the refs and the team around him.

All we can hope is every dumb mistake that doesn’t end his run as the starter actually educates him to make better decisions.

Frankly I thought he was smarter and more poised than this, and would look doubly so this year. He doesn’t… they won yesterday but he didn’t play well.

Well Mac have some sisters of the poor Teams to look better though I have my doubts. The Schedule gets Tougher from the Vikings onward though Kirk Cousins sucks in prime time like Mac... somethings got to give.

Mac Jones is now the 32nd-best quarterback in the league by qb rating. This is up from #35 pregame.

Congratulations????

I basically disagree with all of this.

Belichick spent the massive part of his career with Brady. Is it his fault Brady played for 2o years with the Patriots? You're knocking Belichick for Brady being part of the Patriots for 20 years. In Cleveland, they became a playoff team (and beat Parcells) once Belichick made the right move and moved on from Kosar to Testaverde. Actually, let's rewind to that Cleveland - Patriots playoff game. Parcells couldn't win a playoff game in New England until he hired Belichick to come on as the assistant coach. The change was night and day. 6-10 in 1995, Super Bowl in 1996. Then the two of them went to New York and turned the previously laughable Jets into the class of the division. When Brady was hurt or suspended during those 20 years, New England was 14-6.

Belichick drafted QBs all through his time in New England. You're getting on him for having no backup QBs? He drafted Garoppolo, Brisset, Stidham. These are all backup QBs.
I'm only knocking Bill for dumping Brady. As a HC he's great, but letting Brady go was a major blunder that I can never just forget about. Brady's no Vinny Testaverde and this isn't the Cleveland Browns. This is my team.

It's amazing how so many people want to just disregard Bill's total record here without Brady and cherry pick a few games. The fact is that Bill lucked into the greatest QB pick of all time and with help from players from Troy Brown to Edelman and from Ty Law to Devin McCourty, they went on to win as many SBs as any team ever has. But without Brady on the Pats and Bill as the HC the team has been .500 with one playoff loss. That's not a coincidence.

And how did Stidham work out as a backup? Oh yeah, Bill went with Cant Newton, the guy that some fans here wanted to give more money to than Brady. The only other good QB that Bill drafted beside Brady, and he drafted a lot of them, was Garropolo. The rest blew chunks.

Hopefully, one of the young QBs we have will turn out to be our QB of the future. I sure hope so.

The needle is pointing up
Undeniably. (I'm being maybe 75% facetious. Things are looking up if you ignore where the guy was drafted, but then if you were rigorous in ignoring where a guy was drafted, we'd be starting Zappe.) Time will, as always, tell.

The whole league except for 2 teams is having problems with offenses. It's not just the Patriots.
There are two things that really bother me when I see them and I see them often. Luckily, we don't have those issues here.
1) The HC that decides to take a 4th down gamble instead of the points when the situation calls for the points. That happens a lot with extra points too.
2) Dumb penalties, like the one that saved Mac from a pick 6 yesterday. The dope took a shot at Mac after he threw the pass, acted like he didn't mean to pop him and then he and his HC cried to the refs when it was rightfully called.
There was also another one in the Bills game when a GB player ended up down on the sideline and when a Bill's player in civies tried to help him he took a swing at the guy. He then took a swing at McDermott and was ejected soon after.
And I think I heard of one yesterday where a team tied the score (Carolina maybe) and one of the players got a penalty on the tying score so the kicker was forced to kick a 40 yard extra point for the game-winner, which he missed. Atlanta won in OT in a game where the winner would take over 1st place in the division.

I can only imagine what it must be like to work your ass off in a game only to have some dope for a teammate take it away. It must be frustrating as all hell.

Belichick was never expending high draft picks on QBs once he had Brady.

Why would he?

He was drafting backups. That goes for Brisset, Stidham, Zappe, all these guys.

You're basically bashing Belichick for having Brady for 20 years.

I'd say, Belichick's record is a coincidence.

For once, he came in the first year and cleaned house. That 5-11 record was an example of Belichick establishing his team.

That was pretty much proven when we won the Super Bowl next year with a QB who was clearly reined in and limited.

Otherwise, we only had a Cassel year and a Deflategate year to judge this team without Brady, and the record was 14-6.

The team was had a total rehaul in the last 3 years. When Slater and McCourty are gone next year, there won't be a single player left from the team that won the SB in 2019 and gave up only 3 pts to a top 10 offense in NFL history.

Watching Mac this year is like watching an entirely new QB. He wasn't a superstar last year but he was significantly better than this. His pocket awareness is terrible, his decision making is terrible, and he seems to not be seeing the field and wanting to run for some reason. Last year he would take the check downs and take what the defense was giving him. Maybe they're pushing Mac to build on last year but if that is the case they need to pull the plug on it.

Maybe McDaniels was a way better OC than people around here were giving him credit for

Yeah. I posted this in another thread: The two best drives by the offense yesterday were the first drive of the second half where all the plays are pre-scripted and when they went to a no huddle with Jones calling plays at the line (which stalled after they started to huddle up again). That tells you a lot about Patricia's in game play calling.

I was always pretty neutral on McDaniels. Never thought he was as bad as some people did but there were certainly things he did that drove me nuts.

I think we've seen enough to say that JMD might never be a good HC. There's a lot more that goes into it than being a team-guy, and smart football guy. I also don't know if BB brings him back again (assuming he's gone after this year, or next).
It's time for new blood, but that might not come until BB is gone too.

I expect Mac to get his sea legs back next week against Indy.

It's been a weird year for the offense. Thornton misses the first 5 games on a semi-dirty hit. Mac goes down at the end of game 3 on a dirty hit. Andrews goes down last week on a very dirty hit. We also lost Meyers for the Baltimore and GB games, and Montgomery has been out since Miami. There were new offensive coaches and changes to the offense to adjust to. We looked explosive in the Ravens game when Parker went off, then Mac misses a month.

But I think the #1 factor for their choppy play was swapping the LT and RT. Neither guy has played as well as they did last year.
