Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

If you guys have speakers or time at work, this was a good pod on Bucs issues.

Didn't know Ledyard was still doing Bucs podcast. He's very good.

On @JasonCole62 report that center Ryan Jensen could return much earlier than expected next month, Bucs coach Todd Bowles said he is still "limping" and "hobbled" and "walking better." "I can't tell you how he's going to heal," he said. Doesn't sound like a player 3 weeks away.

Bucs safety Mike Edwards, whose hat game is always strong, says Sunday is still a while off but he’s encouraged by how his elbow feels returning to practice.

Bucs are bringing tight end David Wells back to their practice squad. San Diego State grad is 27, played in three games with Cardinals last year, spent two weeks on Bucs' PS in September before getting released. More depth with Cameron Brate dealing with a sprained neck.

What went wrong on four third-and-long conversions in the second half of the Bucs’ loss to the Steelers? We break each down, remembering Pittsburgh went 2-for-39 in third-and-11+ in all of last season. “It’s something we have to fix, ASAP.”

Well, I don't know Mac10 but I do know it's not pretty watching Tom Brady become a has-been hanger-on. I understand that he had to leave the Patriots and I'm glad he got another ring but it's time for him to stop embarrassing himself and get another occupation.

Apparently Gronk is a bit smarter than Brady.

The problem with this team is the offense. Specifically:

3rd down: 31-82 37.8% (#24)
RZ scoring (TD): 50% #20 (67% in 2021)

Well below average. They need to fix this.

Godeke graded 73 out of 75 guards.

Even if we assume they can get by PHI in the NFC, this team won't beat BUF or KC in a SB.

Brady is still playing at a championship level he just needs time and for Tampa to get off there ass and trade for an impact player. If there isn’t a guard available they should trade anything to get Brain Burns to help that pathetic defense out cause the pass rush ain’t cutting it

All that clip showed is that none of the receivers could get open & Brady had to throw it into double (triple?) coverage. I thought the Bucs had good receivers or is it poor play design?

Poor play design and the Bucs offense relies on the Oline giving the QB time to throw down the field. Obviously at the moment they can't block particulary well. The players are also playing like **** (TB12 included he was off on a lot of throws Sunday)

They're moving the ball well but just struggle in the red zone. As for Goedeke it's obvious he's the weak link and they still try to run the ball on his side lmao This passing stat ain't great either

Evans 4 targets,.. poor play design definitely. Leftwich and Bowles has shown the doubters that Arians was pretty good.

I was here on this forum at the time but I truly can’t recall if Patriots fans were flipping out about Brady being done and exposed after the loss to the Jets in the 2010/11 Divisional Game where Brady basically couldn’t complete a pass.

Yep. 2009, he was done. 2010 after the loss to the Jete, he was declining. 2013, he was declining. Beginning of 2014, he was done. 2018, he was too old. 2019, he was “cooked” (saw that one a lot). 2020, the Bucs suddenly became an All Star team.

The hot takes have increased the more the old guys on the board have adapted to social media, and posting political status updates to their 53 friends on Facebook in all caps.

Bucs' Jaelon Darden ranks eighth in the NFL in punt-return average at 9.6 yards per return. He's been fairly high-volume as well, ranking sixth in total punt-return yards with 125 and one off the NFL lead in fair catches (10).

Darden didn't have a good game in Pittsburgh -- punt returns of 2, 6, 6 yards. But he had returns of 24 and 16 vs. Atlanta, 16 vs. Green Bay, 17 vs. New Orleans, and four others 9 yards or longer. It adds up.

Again, about the defense:

One key regression for Bucs defense of late has been takeaways. First three weeks? Tampa Bay tied for the NFL lead with eight takeaways. Last three weeks? Tampa Bay has one, total, tied for 27th. Only Miami has zero.

More on the special teams:

A little bit. If you look at opponent net punting -- probably a better way to evaluate a return unit overall -- the Bucs have taken a step back. They rank 22nd, giving up a net 42.8 yards per punt, after ranking 16th last year, at 40.5.

Another special-teams note -- Bucs have a much lower touchback rate, moving from Bradley Pinion last year to rookie Jake Camarda. Last year, 72 percent touchbacks, fifth-highest in the league; this year, 43 percent touchbacks, fifth-lowest in the league.

And that can be OK if the kickoff coverage can handle returners and consistently pin them deep. Bucs haven't. Opponents are averaging 27.6 yards per kickoff return, third-highest in NFL. Even if you take out Sunday's 89-yard return, they're still ninth-worst at 23.2 yards per.

Good news from Bucs practice: Shaq Mason is practicing today after being held out Wednesday with an ankle injury.

Bucs rookie DL Logan Hall, limited in practice Wednesday with a groin/abdominal injury, is practicing again today.

And Julio Jones is practicing today, here warming up with Chris Godwin before practice.
