Paul Perillo Made an Excellent Point on Mac vs. Zappe

No, there are a lot of posters here hating on Zappe for some ungodly unknown reason. It makes no sense.

I attribute it to their large investment in Mac apparel and gear. I guess.

Is it time to start a Mac sub-forum?

I think there are people going overboard both ways. I am guilty of it too. I am not sure if anyone hates Zappe. There is one clear Mac Jones hater on this board that I see. But I think most people are digging their trenches for the guy they think is better rather than hating one QB or another.

As for me, I still Mac is better and stated why even if it comes off as Zappe hate to some.

But at the end of the day, I just want a good to great starting QB no matter who it is. If it is Zappe, I will be happy. I am always been a rooting for laundry guy. It hurts to see some players leave like Brady. But if I can move on from Tom Brady, I can certainly move on from Mac Jones if Zappe beats him out.

Coaching staff says "nah it's the same playbook."
At the 3:10 mark Hunter Henry is asked if they "dumbed down the playbook for the backup quarterback", but says "it's the same offense"...

I get it, this could just be "jock speak", but still, there it is...

FYI - Zappe popped up on the media schedule for tomorrow, which might be the first indication it could be business as usual Monday night.

My guess whether or not Jones is playing Monday, he will not have media availability.

Zappe haters, wow Venecol, you are really stretching it there. How about intelligent fans who aren't complete idiots who try and temper their enthusiasm with the latest shiny thing, by saying, he looks pretty good against two of the worst defenses in the league, but lets wait and see how he does going forward before we designate him TB2.

I was asked after the draft what is the best you could hope for Zappe. Paraphrasing, I said, I hope he is the best QB ever, beats out Mac Jones, and allows us to trade Jones for a bunch of draft picks.

No where there did I say I think Jones sucks, I hope they are both amazing, and hopefully they both are.

FWIW! Bedard is backing up on some of what PFF is saying.

Some added things. He just said that Zappe passes for 15.1 yards off of play action and 5.1 yards average on all other passes. So that is a huge thing in Zappe's success vs. Jones because Jones only did play action 10% of the time and Zappe did it nearly 40%.

Also, Bedard said that Zappe was only under pressure about 22% of the time thus far while Jones was under pressure 33% of the time which also plays a factor.
I'd content that at least part of the reason Zappe is under pressure less is that he's more adroit at sensing the rush and moving around (particularly stepping up) in the pocket.

I was one who didn't want to draft Mac in round 1 because of lack of arm strength. It's very clear to me that Zappe has a much stronger arm.
Interesting... The college reports from bleacherreport described Mac Jones's arm strength as "adequate" and this was without a season of NFL conditioning and off-season work with Tom House, whereas Bailey Zappe's arm strength was described as "below average". It seems they are seeing things many fans are not seeing.

I would say the biggest issue is all the people who want to ditch Mac and go all-in with Zappe already. Those are the people who have sort of created the negative reactions, which is sort of frustrating. I mean, I get it, you can't ride one horse with two a**es but right now, it's a non-issue until Mac gets healthy.

Again, this whole thing is going to resolve itself, I'm sure. But his ascension has actually created a good problem football-wise, which I wish was the larger discussion but it's not. It's either "he sucks" or "he's not as good". There's no happy medium, and that's what's making this whole experience a little more painful than it needs to be.
I don't think this is a very difficult decision for Bill. The fact remains that Mac is still injured. As late as Sunday there were comments he didn't look right. So, just based on that alone, Bill can continue to play Zappe.

If the kid continues to perform or improve upon what he's already done, then once Mac is 100% healthy, Bill will need to decide. I doubt that happens this week though, so we'll see how it goes.

He should've said, "No, we just dumbed down the opponents these last two weeks."

7 pass catchers, 4 of them with 60 yards a piece, on the way to the 300 yard game last sunday.... compared with Mac Jones' "you are the main guy this week, you are the main guy last week..." approach.

I like this simpler offense where we throw to more guys and use more of our weapons. I guess it's harder to dial in on one security blanket and stare him down until you get intercepted.

These stupid "explanations" for why Mac is really secretly The One is just a bunch of guys who follow the college game and the draft unable to believe that one kid is outplaying the other even though that's what their lyin' eyes are telling them. I accept that we are seeing a small sample size against cruddy teams vs. Mac playing less well against good teams. But you definitely have to call what Zappe's shown a hot hand.

I mean, that's how I see it, but basically the answer is "ask Coach"

Mac's not even the best Jones

I guess that's forgiveable. I really hated having a guy named Kenyatta and he wasn't even the good Kenyatta.

Will they shelf Zappe like they did Jimmy Garoppolo and trade him years from now? I have not seen Patriot/Brady offense in 3 years until Sunday. So disappointing when the news comes out that Mac get's the Start on Monday night. Of course we should win the game but man Zappe highlights was so much fun to watch these past couple of days...

Someday we'll learn Russia has been using alternate-reality disinformation bots to sow discord and dissension in ALL areas of American life, not just politics.

I wouldn’t be so sure that you’ll end up being disappointed with the starting QB decision, be it Monday night, or the rest of the season.

This is worth a watch. This guy analyzes Zappe's play against Cleveland. He talks a lot about Zappe's efficiency of movement and footwork, which is what I saw as well with Zappe.
