Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Don't be such a tool. Brady easily could have won league MVP last season. They're going to win their division and they should have a deep playoff run. Brady will have solid numbers by the end of the season. It's amazing how many times Brady haters have had him buried and he just keeps burning your *sses.
At this moment they're not playing well and through 6 weeks the offense has yet to produce anything other than the KC game where they were down since kickoff. They're not a good team right now a division title is no guarantee either.

I've been arguing with folks here about this so much that my fingers have become shorter. It's isn't the coaches who make the plays, it's the players. It isn't the coaches who drop passes and fumble the ball, it's the players. Of course there may be cases where a coach makes a move that may result in a loss, but in the long run it's about the players, not the coaches.

Coaches call good plays, and coaches call bad plays, and I don't usually call out play calling as long as the calls were logical under the circumstances. But the defensive play calls in that fourth quarter were bad plays for the situations. They had Trubisky in, cold, and they called plays that let him off the hook. The execution was poor, too, but it started with the calls, IMO.

Here’s their biggest, no denying, issue. Red Zone and in particular goal to go futility. It’s absolutely absurd how many times this season it’s been 1st and goal and they are held to 3

Yup. There's a problem when the best player on the team is the kicker

They're a good team that's not playing well and is poorly coached. The coaching is probably a lost cause but the players, particularly on offense, should turn it around. I can't imagine a Brady led offense is going to suck in the red zone for an entire season. And losing the division would be a massive fail.

That's been the theme all year with the Bucs.

They get to the Redzone then the offense stalls
Too many early runs getting stuffed or minimal yards. Then it's 3rd and long and everybody knows a pass is coming and that Brady has to get rid of it quickly or get sacked. Brady has been playing with one hand tied behind his back in the red zone.

They're a mediocre team right now. Offense doesn't score in the red zone and the defense gives up third and longs drive after drive. Their best player is a kicker right now. The coaching is bad as well. Mix it all together and you get a game like yesterday. It's too early to tell but I wouldn't make any guarantees. Good or bad

They need to get Goedeke out. He just isn't ready this year and he is getting worse instead of better. Getting Jenson back would be huge. It would allow Hainsey to slide over and take Goedeke spot.

They also need to get Evans the ball more. Evans has improved since Brady came and isn't just a deep threat anymore.

Honestly the D is fine and will be fine. They missed SMB, Ryan and Hicks and I think those are important pieces.

They are 7th in yds/g and 5th in pts/g. Right now it’s the offense that is not holding their end of the bargain.

When you average 17.2 pts allowed per game you should win most games. Why they don’t? Because the offense doesn’t score.

There was multiple time where the D gave the ball back to the offense just for the offense to go 3 and out right after. So we can sit here and cry about the D giving up 3rd & long on the last two drives but this game shouldn’t have come to a stop on the last drive.
The D is fine even good if you are a mediocre team trying to sneak into a playoff spot, but not for a SB aspiring team.

In this situation, the stats on the d are a bit deceiving as they choke in critical situations. Two games already, they couldn't make a stop with nearly 5 minutes left to give the offence a chance to win it. They were up against one of the worst offence and came up with only 2 sacks and no interceptions and made Trubisky look like a probowler.

Fully agree with both points. Slide Hainsey over, and get creative with getting Evans open.

I've been very disappointed with how Evans has been used this year. At the end of last year Evans looked amazing when they started moving him all over the field and looked like a legit #1.

Running go routes and deep cutbacks is just so limiting and predictable

Brady, known for showing his emotions during competition, ripped into some of his teammates nearing halftime, video shows.

“You’re so much better than the way you’re f***ing playing,” the 45-year-old yells. “Get your f***ing act together!”

This kinds of sums things up, I think

  • Godwin's still recovering, and isn't the player he was before the injury.
  • Gage has been injured, and isn't a top level WR.
  • Jones has been all but useless, to date.
  • The other WRs are low end players, at least at this time
  • Brate's not a TE 1 level player
  • The rookie TEs are pedestrian, at best, right now
  • Fournette's not a contact avoider, and he's getting met early because of the poor OL play
  • Gronk is gone
  • The OL can't block for downfield passes
  • Evans isn't an immediate open kind of WR

Put all that together and it makes it tough for Brady to wait on Evans, and easy for teams to roll coverage over to Evans.

Statistics don't win football games. Key plays in critical situations do.
You're absolutely right, but the statement I was responding to said the Steelers "obviously outplayed" the Buccaneers. That just isn't a true statement.

The Bucs red zone offense sucks royally this year. That is the problem they need to address. Brady is #4 in the League in yardage and #8 in rating so overall he is playing well but, for some reason, they just aren't finishing.

Overall yeah he's been okay.

Yesterday was his annual stinker though. The Oline issues didn't help, but he missed a lot of throws

Watch last year when Godwin was on IR and AB went crazy.

They moved Evans around putting him in the slot, putting him in motion to prevent the jam at the LOS.

Now watch this year where he splits out wide almost every snap and runs the same route almost every time. It's easy to shut down a player when you know what they are doing.

The few times they have switched it up and run Evans on a slant it has worked

There's no AB this year, though.
