By the numbers: Patricia's offense downright offensive

This is the way I see things so far:
This board and the Boston media in general have been excoriating Belichick, Patricia, Mac, Parker, Mills, Harry and others since training camp.

I saw nothing to get too upset about in Miami, and nothing to get too excited about in Pittsburgh. The Ravens game showed what our offense can be, which is pretty dynamic. The Packers game showed us maturing as a team, we almost pulled off the upset of the year with numerous starters out. If Mac plays, we win by double digits. These 2 games have shown me more than anything since late 2018.

They look like a GOOD team, a playoff caliber team that could easily be 2-2 or 3-1. But now we're in a hole at 1-3, led by a rookie 4th round QB who MUST win the next couple of games to save the season.

I find this all pretty intriguing.

I like this take. I really am not in the "OMG these guys are bad" mode. I'm more like "so close... so close"

Although I have to say, pronouncements of "If Mac plays we win that one"... well, If Mac 21 plays, or Mac-As-Figured-Out-From-College-Film, sure. Mac this year? Good general point but I'm not calling it a given.

Allen's first couple of years were nothing to write home about: 30 TDs and 21 INTs. It took him 3 years to come on strong.

A big part of Allen’s game is athleticism.

You forgot that part. Add in his scrambling and he had nearly 50 TD’s and 21 INT in his first two years.

Yes and Zappe pushing Mac as opposed to Hoyer is spot on ... QB position is rarely a competition on teams ... but I think this is good and losing one's job to injury ... well we know this cinderella story and what a ride.

For those of you sh*tting on Patricia, he's 1-0 against Bill as HC.

For those defending Spaghettio Matt

His head coaching record:

1) 6-10
2) 3-12-1
3) 4-7 Fired

Total: 13-29-1

Lions players & coaches threw a party with bottles of champagne when Patricia was canned

Jim Caldwell with a similar lions squad went 36-28 with 3 winning seasons

Maybe, but his win against Belichick is equivalent to 10 wins, so he really went 16-0 in 2018 and 23-19-1 overall. That's pretty good.

Yeah, well, people are pining after Josh McDaniels, who also has a winning % in the .300 range. Both of them sucked as head coaches.

So "we are seeing the same issues" as late July because the O-line is blocking just as badly and shambolically as in the preseason? Yes? No?
Mac Jones and Brian Hoyer were both injured in the preseason? Yes? No?

This is just not the same stuff, unless you mean final scores haven't been going our way. There is a lot of stuff, and some of it is the same. It's not that there's no validity to such complaints, it's just that what's there is out of proportion to what's claimed.

Icy did a good job saying the important part, unfortunately for the "experts" here, it is far less often appropriate to say you've got it all figured out, than it is to say "aw crap," which is generally the real sentiment. God love all you guys ready to pull all sorts of triggers. I do share the feeling of "aw crap," just, usually, not the prescriptive solutions bandied about. The details of analysis tend to not be very realistic.
I mean the offense hasn't shown any real cohesion and Mac looks shaky and turnover prone.

FACT: 99% of ALL HC's are fired including HOFers like Tom Landry. Parellls' first year was 3-12-1 and he was 22-29-1 after 3 years. THe fact of the matter is that failure as a HC comes for a lot of reasons that have NOTHING to do with one's ability to be an EXCELLENT assistant. ALL HC were originally great assistants. Matt was a great assistant who was respected around the league for over a decade before he flamed out in Detroit.

The Pats offense is in a horrible situation. NO one expected Zappe to have to take an NFL snap this season. A great run game will be suffocated by 8 and 9 man fronts. He WILL make bad mistakes. And yet there will be those among you that will put ANY offensive failing at the feet of Matt Patricia simply because you are still pissed a Bill for Brady's leaving or only want to see the negative side of things

Nobody is going to blame Patricia for whatever happens with Zappe as QB. But fear not, Zappe will surprise you. Sure he'll make mistakes, but he won't quit. There's something about the kid that tells me he's more than capable to lead a come back victory. Zappe gets his first W tomorrow and bails Patricia out.

I like the take, and I hope it's right. If he's good enough, and processes the games fast enough, he might be able to punish Ds that deploy steady diets of 8 and 9 man fronts. If the QB's good enough the 8 & 9 man fronts are just giving you a shortcut to the PA pass game... you don't even need to sell the run anymore, they just assume it. Only question will be, can he make them pay?

STFU and watch. You'll be yelling like a 12yo girl by halftime.

Wrong. The blame is placed on Matt Patricia because he is calling the offensive plays and has led this team to a 1-3 record with the prospects of dipping further in the AFC East standings against the Lions tomorrow.

The excuse-making for the coaches reaches the level of boot-licking around these parts.

What was the main difference in key past Patriots teams? Not really the talent. Arguably the Patriots overperformed compared to head to head talent level. The only supreme difference-maker in terms of talent was in the QB position, but that certain TB12 is no longer here so let's move on to the coaching.

The coaching was counted on to be the difference-maker instead of the talent. This year BB intentionally chose not to hire a new OC, he appointed Matt Patricia to call the offensive plays, whether it was hubris or mere cost-cutting measures aka the Patriots don't even foot the bill for Joe Judge or Matty P at the moment due to the titles they were assigned. And so the blame will fall on those coaches when the team FAILS to perform.

This team had a winning record and made the playoffs last season. Slipping below that standard will result on blame on the coaching decisions made this year. And it will be justifiable. Show me results, not the excuses. Any fan has the right to demand that from the team that they support.
