Asking for your support

Do you believe we will be a super bowl contender with Mac?

He WAS a Pro Bowler, you idiot. Just shows where your bias lies.

He was a guy who answered a phone and said yes and played in a pro bowl. He wasn't a pro bowler.

And here lies the real problem. Mac can be good but you need great to be a consistent SB contender. We're facing Allen, Mahomes. Herbert, Jackson etc in the AFC alone. We absolutely have to give him an elite weapon to play with. That's not even a debate imo.
The Giants beat teams with amazing QBs in the 1980s with Phil Simms and a great defense.

Patriots can do the same thing.

But let’s start by involving our two high-priced TEs on offense and not playing awful LBers on defense like Slow Thigh Tavai.

That means better coaching and players.

Looks about what I expected from an Alabama QB

I think his ceiling will be in the Kirk Cousins range. And even that is probably unfair to Cousins
I see what you mean, you just can't count on an Alabama QB. Evidently if Mac was going to show something we would have seen it by now, three games into his second year, it isn't like he led his team into the playoffs or was in the Pro Bowl or anything his rookie year.

When has an Alabama QB ever taken a third year leap in the NFL? Ain't happening. Poor Philadelphia and Miami are struggling this year despite their 6-0 combined record, and third year ex-Alabama QB Jalen Hurts struggling MVP odds are only 4th (behind Allen, Mahomes, and Jackson) and third year ex-Alabama QB Tua's is only 6th (behind Herbert) see: NFL_MVP_ODDS.

I'll be surprised if an Alabama QB is ever drafted again. Good call.

Nice to see someone talking sense in this ill-advised thread. Make no mistake, Mac made some bad decisions yesterday but he DID move the team completing 69 percent of his passes for 321 yards and rushing for another 31 yards.
is that where this team is now where 0 td's and 3 ints is ok and not his fault? I have seen Brady have games where he would have over a 100 Qb rating and get torched by fans because we lost. It seems the bar has fallen quite a lot.

You think??

Pro Bowl was officially laid to rest today a moment of silence please.
Pro bowl....the only guys that go to pro bowl are young guys after 10 vets dont want to go, they sneak them in. I mean if Mac was busy do they start dipping into backup QB's?

Mac isn't what is wrong with this team. His play has been inconsistent, but that might not be totally his fault either. The coaching had been subpar.
Yes

The Pat's need an arm strength coach asap.

After half the AFC backed out

Not sure being a runner up who gets in because someone else backed out really counts

What this team does not have are building blocks/elite talent on either side of the ball and a better coaching staff (don't hold your breath). Rumors have been that established coaches are not waiting in line to work with Bill and he pays very little. In terms of personnel, you can see the correlation between their two Super Bowl runs where they had those building blocks/elite talent on both sides of the ball. This team has very little to none. Your best argument is Judon on defense. Mac needs better players on both sides of the ball.

Interesting listening to Phil Perry on Curran's podcast today. He puts more of the blame on the coaching staff than on Mac. He explained that the coaches want Mac to push the ball down field more and take more chances. They see the way the NFL has gone and figure the Pats need to incorporate more big plays. So last year we had McDaniel's stressing don't turn the ball over and now we have coaches stressing push the ball down the field. There has to be a happy medium and a lot of it is on Mac to figure out the ability to take some shots while also limiting turn overs.

OF COURSE it counts, even as a runner-up. Look at all the veteran quarterbacks passed over for him. It's an honor however you want to parse it.

I recall the days of the Drew Bledsoe debate.

Drew needs _______________________________ and he will be great. It was never Bledsoe's fault for coming up short. Then Brady took over and began winning big games with the exact same people that were not good enough for Bledsoe. Today, this NE team has plenty of talent on it to make the post season with the right QB.

The Pats wont be going anywhere this year because of 1 player and not because of the other 52 players

I also remember the Bledsoe debates.

Those debates were different. Bledsoe kept regressing and we kept looking for reasons....Zampese, the OL, injuries, and etc... But the reality was that the whole team wasn't that good in the Bledsoe era and Bledsoe himself was unable to play mistake free because he kept pressing it. When Brady took over, his #1 job was to not turn over the ball...hand it off to Antowain Smith...hit Troy Brown now and then to extend drives on high percentage passes. It is no coincidence that Bledsoe was responsible for 1 of the only 2 passing TD's we had that post-season run.....and also the reason we almost lost when he hit Joey Porter in the numbers. That 2001 season AFC title game @ Pittsburgh should be a case study for everyone who wants to judge QB's.

Mac on the other hand has only played his 20th NFL game and was largely on a leash last year. I am not surprised he has 5 interceptions already as we are asking for a lot from him right now. I am not making excuses for those ugly interceptions, but for Christ's sake...can we give him a clean platform to throw from? When we do...he throws a beautiful ball that hits his receivers in the hands.

The on-field game was laid to rest (and long overdue). The honors remain.

Where did I say he wasn't at fault? I said he made some bad choices but he also did some good things. (By the way, he rushed for a touchdown but maybe that doesn't count in your book.)

Using "He was a Pro Bowler" to support Mac is embarrassing. Please stop. There are other valid things to take away from his rookie season to show he has the potential to be the guy. He was 3rd or 4th alternate for the Pro Bowl? That's bordering on a participation trophy.

I believe I saw enough of Mac last season to be optimistic. The beginning of this season has been a step back, but I am not convinced there are factors (coaching) that have been more of an issue or have stunted Mac.

I still have hope.

But my glass filleth over with optimism usually.

I am not the one that is leaving things out. lol. I just think the bar has fallen off badly around here.

Mac is having a softmore slump however he will need to turn it out by next year. Either he improves considerably by making a serious superbowl run or its on to the next QB.
