Hoyer looked good for 90% of that KC game despite the really screwed up travel situation and all of that. He stuck to the plan and made good throws. It was the 10% of the game where he totally screwed up that actually lost them the game.
Reading through the play by play for that game is rough. Could've been tied 6-6 going into the half if not for the brain fart. Brutal Hoyer fumble at the KC 10 that could've put the Pats up 10-6 in the 3rdQ (which led to the benching). Stidham then throws a TD and 2 INTs going 5 for 13.

Not sure I'd want a rookie going up against Rodgers in GB. That being said, based on everyone's expectations for Hoyer, we'll probably see him sooner rather than later if and when the Pats are getting blown out.

Suspected tendon or ligament damage for Jones.

Sound bad and like at least 4 games. Roll with Zappe and see what he has. You already know what Hoyer is.

Zappe. You drafted him for a reason.
They drafted to hope someday he would be a servicable back up for a few years as he developed. If he was that right now, Hoyer would not be on the roster

Hear me out here, JaMarcus Russell. He is fresh, matured, and...

Funny GIF

Hoyer had a better win% as a starting QB for the Texans than Deshawn. He was actually 15-11 as a starting QB overall at one point in his career.
The Texans were a much better team when Hoyer was there. They had prime Hopkins, prime Watt when he was arguably the best player on the planet. Were filthy deep at every position. They pissed that away with our castoffs and were looking for a guy and basically lost that window before they got Watson. By the way, Watson had a winning record his first two full years with the team. It wasn't until 2020 where he had a losing season. That team in 2020 was very different from what Hoyer was given.

Hoyer's role is first and foremost a mentor/coach. [Mrs. Hoyer is not thrilled with the idea of him actually coaching.]

Hoyer isn’t leading this team to jack didly squat. Might as well put in the rookie and find out quick whether he can play or not.

That's fair. Interesting that Watson led the league in passing yds 2020 and had career bests in TDs, comp%, and a low for INTs, so it's not like he had a dropoff after losing Hopkins. It wasn't prime Watt, but he was still in there, as well.

Edit: Texans were 19th in Points Allowed in 2019 but 27th in 2020, which is a dropoff, but it's not like they were elite (like '18 where they were 4th). With Watson's increased offensive production '19 to '20 (probably since they were playing from behind a lot), it's interesting how 10-6 became 4-12.

Perhaps locked in a deep abyss of my brain ...
but I keep seeing Tommy Hodson in the thread title...
Michael Bishop makes a cameo also ...

ugh ... many needed a mulligan in those threads.

I’m saying Zappe.
Or trade again with Miami for their third stringer Skyler.
Kid has a cannon looks like a Kirkland Josh Allen.

It's a myth that teams need to start a guy before they know if they are good or not. If Zappe goes out there, it's because they already think he has something that can help them win. If he doesn't, they already know he doesn't. We did this song and dance with Stidham two years ago. The coaches knew he wasn't it and were proven right whenever they relented and gave him some time in a game. McDaniels had to basically spell it out to everyone that they knew what they had in him.

There is nothing to find out for the coaches besides if they already think he has something if it translates under pressure. If they think he's not there yet, it just not going to show up on game day.

If they thought Zappe was ready, he'd have been the QB2.

We riot if we see Hoyer > Zappe. Hoyer has been done for years, multiple years. We just invested a pick in Zappe. Rookie or not give the kid a shot with a decent team around him. We're playing for a better pick if Mac is out more than a month either way. I'd at least like to see Zappe.
Right. This isn’t like Hoyer or Stidham where you knew Stidham is trash and at least Hoyer probably wouldn’t turn the ball over. This is where we know what we have in Hoyer and we don’t know what we have in Zappe. Zappe needs to start if Mac misses time. If he sucks? Put Hoyer in. But you need to go with the higher ceiling guy. That’s Zappe.

Where's the evidence that Zappe has a higher ceiling than Hoyer?

Hoyer is 1-18, as a starter, since 2016. Go with the kid if Mac is out for an extended length of time.
