BB on how long he wants to coach

Who knows if Payton could be talked into it but if Bill is near the end of his run here meaning within 2 seasons could Payton be talked into taking a QB coach role with the promise of more than that when Bill retires? Payton was a QB coach before he became HC. Also wouldn't hurt Mac to have a full time QB coach. Also Payton > Judge. Mac has been compared to Brees in the past so I can see that opportunity piquing his interest. Hmm.....

Sean Payton would have all teams salivating at the prospect of having him as a HC. I think McCarthy gets fired this year and Payton comes over to Dallas in 2023. Dan Quinn should be getting a HC position next year . Robert Saleh on jets could be let go.

Very true. Jerruh will be all over that. Not saying they should but maybe the Pats would have to make a move with Bill THIS year for this to happen.

Payton as QB Coach or OC would be great, but Belichick won't be gone in two seasons unless the team ends up winning fewer than 4 games during one (or both) of those two seasons. Assuming the team is competent and competitive, my guess is Belichick will be here for at least three more seasons, and I could see as many as six if they're consistently competing deep in the postseason at that point.

The only way I see someone to be interested in pats is if Mac takes a huge sophomore leap this season. Else there is not much for a new coach to come in and work with. Yes, we have decent cap space for 2023 and 2024. But the talent is severely lacking and have quite a few overpaid free agents . Big mistake to sign two tight ends when we don't have the offensive philosophy for that . Should have limited to Henry or Jonnu .

No elite HC is going anywhere near Dallas or the Meadowlands.. those places are cesspools not because of the coaching or talent but because of owner interference.

Everyone criticizes BB's recent drafts - this was Grier's draft in 97. Woof.

The 1997 draft was not a particularly great one. 240 picks resulted in 4 Hall of Fame/Pro Bowl players & 20 other players that made a Pro Bowl. Overall, that's a 10% "hit" rate. By comparison, 1996 hit rate was 13% and 1998 was 12%. BTW - 2 of those Pro Bowlers from the 1997 draft, Corey Dillon & Mike Vrabel - made the Pro Bowl as a Patriot. :)

Also remember that the Patriots lost the Super Bowl the year before, so they were picking at the end of each round. 3 of the Hall of Fame/Pro Bowl players & 7 of the Pro Bowlers were gone before they made their first pick.

Many also seem to forget that Chris Canty was considered a pretty good CB prospect. He won the Jack Tatum Award, given to the top collegiate defensive back, after his final year at Kansas State.

I think that Patricia being involved in FO decisions last season and now as defacto OC is a transition of sorts for his future with the organization. I suppose it'll depend on how he does as OC. If he's successful, I can see him as the future HC. How do we feel about that?
Would be the worst hire in history of pro sports

A lot of making fun of Terry Glenn.

I don’t think this younger generation of posters remember him to well. He was an elite talent who could make difficult catches look easy and impossible catches look difficult. He had speed, separation, and an unmatched vertical leap

Talent wise in his prime he is easily better than any Wr on our current roster

I also believe he is still the best Wr we have drafted since 96

Glenn and Martin…boy do we miss young talent in premium positions like this. Instead we’re stuck with Harris and Parker.

IMO, The whole “Bill’s record without Brady” routine is so tired because it's not a fair comparison no one is going back and removing the years spent with their best QB from any other coaches other than BB. What's Lombardi's record without Starr? Or Walsh without Montana? So Gibbs is the GOAT then?

And to your last point Bill deserves plenty of blame for pushing Brady out but let's not ignore Brady's age at the time and the fact that Brady really took the re-sign option off the table prior to his last season here because the team hadn't extended past 42 for several years prior. I don't think it makes BB any more right because TB just doesn't stop but if we are being fair to Bill he was never given the option to re-sign him in his walk year he had to have done it at least a year early if not a couple years early to have avoided pissing off TB.
Had Bill drafted Nick Chubb and AJ Brown instead of Sony Michel and Nkeal Harry, brady still might be here

who cares…we’ve seen how Brady is without any talent around him

Here we go with another thread hijack. Why aren't you trolling in the Brady threads you insisted on Mrs. Jones?

I think Belichick is as obsessed with coaching football as Brady is playing football. He'll stop coaching when the take his clipboard out of his cold, dead hands
This cannot be disputed.

And if he took David Tyrell instead of Seymour maybe none of this happens.
Never heard of David, but House Tyrell of Highgarden was quite powerful, and Margaery was a babe.

I can absolutely see the Pats going for it the next two years so BB can move past Shula and retire with another ring. Both BB and Kraft will be gone soon and the Pats have cap space and draft picks (11 of them and 6 in the top 4 rounds) to sign a couple of studs (e.g. Chubb/Davenport/Roquan/Conklin) and use their draft picks to trade for a couple of players (disgruntled or cap reasons) or move up to pick a stud in the draft (Jalen Carter, Smith-Njigba, Skoronski, Bresee, Foskey, Cam Smith, Jaylen Duncan). As a fan I would love to see this. Let Jonathan Kraft and next coach sort out the cap problems in 2026 and beyond.

I was a kid when we brought in Drew, Glenn, and Curtis Martin but I remember it actually started to be cool to like the Patriots for the first time in my lifetime. I always wore my Patriots stuff since I can remember but a lot of kids were Cowboys fans and made fun of how bad we were at the time. Bledsoe and Parcells started to give us some relevancy and then adding Curtis Martin and Terry Glenn started to make us a talented young team. Sure that core didn't last long or win a super bowl but I will always love those mid to late 90's Patriots teams.
