2022 OL

You are quoting some else, but that's Ok. Let deal with you position.

You say that we have one of the top OL's in the AFC, if not the league. Please tell us more.

Which are top 5 in the league? top 10?

As I said, I like the OL, but for me, only one is top 10.
OL is the perfect example of the sum of the whole being more important than the parts. You don’t need any top 5 players to have one of the best OL.

How can this be good?” - Mgteich

This ^ you?

Cole Strange was superb yesterday, outside of penalties the entire line was.

If the Patriots end the season top ten in fewest sacks, sack percentage and leading the league in rushing I suspect you’ll tell us they’re not “top ten” because of PFF grades or some other nonsense.

We have no clue what Onwenu or Strange will become, they certainly have the talent to become a top ten (or better) player.

Trent Brown when he his head is screwed on right and he’s healthy is about as good an OT as there is in the league… is there somebody bigger or with a wider wingspan?

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts is correct. How many teams have a better starting five, how many teams have better depth… not many is the answer.

Stop it.

Wrong.

I said that replacing Karras and Mason with Strange and Onwenu was likely not to be an upgrade.

I didn't say that Strange couldn't be an upgrade over Karras. I am one of those who trusts Belichick. I trust that a guard that he drafts in the first round is an upgrade over Karras.
========
So, I guess you believe that Onwenu is an upgrade over Mason at RG.
=======
In any case, I have been saying for months that the issue is backup OG. Do you really believe that Ferentz and Hines are quality backup OG's. Is it YOU that agrees with Belichick that we are fine with Ferentz as our backup OC, our backup LG AND our backup RG?
=========
I don't understand the disagreement. I think that we need a backup OG, allowing that Ferentz is OK as a backup OC.

Much better than the previous week. That's honestly all you want to see improvement each week

Agreed. Same applies to the QB as well (not directed at you). Pitts D line is no slouch either, although not having Watt helped us.

Mac was almost as bad in Sh!ttsdirt as he was in Miami.
Sorry but in this day and age with DE's running 4.5 40's and multiple blitzing packages, how can a stat line of ZERO sacks and 3 QB hits against a defense that had 7 sacks and 11 QB hits against the AFC champs, be considered bad?

Sorry it just doesn't compute,with all the negative comments especially when you consider Strange had to go against a perennial all pro in Cam Heywood and more than held his own and the the Pats ran for over 120 yds at close to a 5 ypc clip. Someone MUST have been doing something right or else the Steeler from seven spent most of the game tripping over the white lines all game.

Our OL DOES have things to clean up, but given that its an OL that has 4 of the 5 entities playing new positions, it's a good start.

I thought jones started out very shaky and inconsistent. But as the offensive line played better, he got steadier.

If in the coming weeks, the offensive line plays better, jones should also play better!

After week one Pittsburgh led the league in sacks… Mac got sacked zero times today.

Joe Mixon averaged 3 yards per carry last week against Pittsburgh, Harris and Stevenson averaged 4.9 YPC today.

They have to clean up the penalties, that being said… one of the best OLines in the AFC, if not the league.
Every one of the starters have had very good to great seasons at one point (except for Strange of course). The potential is there to be one of the best lines in the NFL if they can stay healthy.

Almost is the key word. Mac was better. Mac improved. Too bad you have to use weasel words to avoid saying that.
I'm not sure that Mac was better. The results were much better because the OL was lights out, after a terrible first game.

The results were much better but you are not sure if Mac was better? Mac was not great, but clearly improved from Week 1 to 2. You can not see that?

Don't care about individual "rankings" ... I find the criteria of individual comparison lacking... Too many variables that groups like pff can't adequately address...

As a group though, I want to see cohesive play as a unit... It was better in week 2, but it could be better... everything can always be better though... at least they controlled the line this week... Seemed like communication was better but that will be tested over and over... Can Yates get the job done? We will see, still a little skeptical, but at least week 2 was a step in the right direction...

I would prefer a top ten, better a top five, unit as a whole than having guys "highly ranked" as individuals... the sum of the whole can be superior to the individual rankings player wise... Means much more to team success

Going to be a fun ride watching them progress as a unit...

Big upgrade
How has Mason been this year? It seems like Brady has been constantly under pressure this season. I think a big part of this conversation is that Mason last season > Mason this season. I always assumed Bill moved on from Shaq because he sensed he was starting to decline.

For those who believe in PFF grades
Onwenu- 75.8
Mason- 62.6

Big upgrade

And much cheaper... Mason has the advantage in zone blocking & pulling around center on sweeps; but Onwenu has the advantage in power blocking & sweeps to his side... I'd run behind him in goal-line & short-yardage situations all day long... Pass blocking is about a wash, though I think Onwenu can become > Mason there too.
