Interesting answer from Perry, hoping I don' t see too much this year from Ferentz, I think we all know what he is. JJ might be someone to keep an eye on though this week.

Hey, Ashley. I'd anticipate James Ferentz getting bumped up. He's a ready-made NFL player for them who could serve as the backup to all three interior spots in Week 1. JJ Taylor would also make some sense. He's more ready to play right now than Pierre Strong, and if either Damien Harris or Rhamondre Stevenson were to suffer an injury early in Miami, they'll need another option at that position.

I thought Terrence Mitchell was a lock to be brought up.

If they were bringing JJ up to dress, why would they have exposed him to waivers?

Because they knew noone would claim him?

You never know for sure. Asiasi was preparing to practice with the Pats when he got word he was claimed.

But we'll see.

I think early in the season, with the OL in the kind of flux it's been, Ferentz is probably the guy. He knows the system, knows the calls, and is better suited to coming in cold in the middle of a game if need be. As the weeks go on and guys like Russey and Hines can practice more, I think we all hope that they become the interior backup, but for week 1 I'm guessing they lean towards the vet.

Practice Squad discussion…can’t think of anything more boring

Miss the days of talking about all the talented players we have.

There is plenty of talent... Off the top of my head

Mac Jones
Matthew Judon
David Andrew
Trent Brown
Damien Harris
Rhamondre Stevenson
Hunter Henry
Kendrick Bourne
Anfrenee Jennings
Mack Wilson
DeVante Parker
Jakobi Meyers
Hunter Henry
Jake Bailey

Start a thread, chat away... Those guys should get you started...

Counting Treadwell, I believe we have 17 known practice squad members. Because the limit is 16, and because there is an open spot on the 53, we can probably assume one of the practice squad members is going to be called up once the Treadwell transaction becomes official. I think it's going to be Ferentz, personally. That OL is too thin on the inside.

agreed... i think ferentz will be elevated this week as well... especially after hearing the grumblings that wynn wasn't traveling (no truth to that rumor though)

Going on the premise that there are no stupid questions, only stupid people….

Several years ago, there was an Undrafted wr from ole miss or a school like that that originally had fairly high draft grades but didn’t hear his name called because of lack of speed. I thought his name was similar to Treadwell, who I know was a first rounder. He then announced that he’d signed as an udfa with the pats, but it turned out only to have been an offer for a tryout.

I was excited he’d signed, but he ended up going elsewhere after the mid-announcement and, as far as I know, never amounted to much.

Just curious what that guys name was. Sorry for the randomness.

Perhaps you might be thinking of De'Runnya Wilson from Mississippi State, who was signed as a UDFA here after the 2016 draft...?

That is indeed of whom I was thinking. Thanks to you and Sciz!

I think his tryout was rescinded after he went on Twitter about it. Sounds like he never played football afterwards.

A question (which I do not know the answer to) is do you elevate a player whose salary is not guaranteed for the season, since you can promote veterans on game day three times?

I'm not sure of the rules anymore.

I agree except for Anfernee Jennings, jury is very much still out on him

this should give you a good overview about how it works... but the gist of it is they get 1 game check, based on the minimum salary... unless they have a contract in place that pays them more, which would be atypical

Right. I wasn't clear.

I was comparing practice squad elevation vs roster elevation for vested veterans in terms of guarantees for week one.

So if Ferentz is roster elevated (the original question), does his contract become guaranteed vs what happens if he's practice squad elevated, and does this affect the manner players are elevated?

I can't even explain it clearly.

ahhh, i understand what you mean now... If Ferentz is a vested veteran and he finished week 1 on the 53 man roster, his salary becomes fully guaranteed if he is cut from the team... it does not mean he is guaranteed the full amount - only the full amount remaining if he is cut... since his salary is at the league minimum, you are talking 360k guaranteed, minus what he has been paid...

If he is on a 53-man contract, his entire salary for the season becomes guaranteed.

If he is on a PS contract and gets the standard elevation, he does not.

What about a player like JJ Taylor? Does anything become guaranteed, if roster elevated?

And will this effect their decision?
