State of the Board Discussion [Moved to Here]

Your stupidity about the pats playing weak teams while not seeming to grasp that other teams do as well got me thinking maybe you need some perspective.
Talk about altering what I said LMAO. You’re a facts guy right? Is scoring 20 or less offensive points in over half your games a good thing? Yes or no?
Add to the fact that you cant give me the benefit of the doubt that perhaps there is more to a potentially great offense than a QB and TE made we wade into some stupidify debate about who meant what etc..
You again, are telling me I needed to read your mind to suck the rest of the argument out of you.
BB8 is right, you are a troll And a bad one.
Disagreeing is trolling?

Ha! Ian, you are such a good guy and clearly want to believe that even the Patsfans Fellowship of the Miserable can change.
Being a good guy and believing in the that even the most miserable can be redeemed isn't the worst thing.

If nothing else, otherwise Ian would have tired of this Forum with all of us chuckleheads long ago.

It's more the people who drop the one-liners in threads where things have been relatively normal. That's what I'm referring to.
My two cents: although I probably try to be one of the more positive posters, I don't have any problem at all with sincere posters like Deus or the Cap't who point out problems, I personally think they are important contributors to the board. What gets a bit tiresome to me are posters who (at least this is how it appears to me) show up solely to stir up trouble, it is like they are bored and decide, "let me stir up a hornet's nest on Patsfans.com and get everyone agitated, that will be fun!", and then that ties up a particular thread with non-related nonsense. There are many definitions of trolls, that is mine.

Maybe I've got it wrong, and these posters aren't cynically trying to stir up trouble, instead maybe they are just wired that way. I guess at some point maybe I'll just have to use the "ignore" function, I avoid that for stubborn philosophical reasons (it drives me crazy how nowadays people only listen to opinions that mirror their own, I've always welcomed hearing other respectful points of view, how else can you learn?).

Well, I used that word "nowadays" that proves that I'm a relic, so I had better quit while I'm ahead. .

While there is some truth to that, it doesn't change the fact that the split when Brady left created the biggest issues. And as I've pointed out, obviously the ignore function exists and I took time this offseason adding the mute function. I'm at the point where I do feel if someone is just irritating, we're all adults, we should just scroll past or use the ability available to remove them (mute them) from that particular thread.

I'm not going to boot everyone who is frustrated because obviously there are going to be different perspectives, which is the entire point. However, as I also stated earlier in the thread, I'm not going to allow for people to drop in here, crap on the team, and then bow out, that's going to be something I'm really going to start cracking down on, which I'm sure may upset a few people, but "it is what it is". Like others have said, constructive criticism is fine as long as people at least provide an opinion that others can react to. It's essentially impossible to respond to, "they suck", "bill needs to go", etc. Especially when a lot of it typically starts in September and by midseason, the tenor is usually quite different.

But until Brady hangs it up, I expect a lot of the same to continue until the new group starts reaching a championship level. Hopefully, this season will at least be a step in the right direction.
It's not about quick hits and people dropping in with one liners though.

Until that's understood nothing will change about the tenor, or state, of the board.

This board has never been better

I’m going to go ahead and make a bet that the biggest whiners in this thread will also spend the entire 3-day weekend on here.

Me reading the last few pages of this thread…

Dude comes out his cave smashed using a # like hes on Twitter. His wife must be jumping for joy she doesn't have to deal with this nonsense anymore.

*edit* jumping might have been a poor choice of words. Maybe rolling around?

Been on this board for many years now and there are a lot of improvements made by Ian over the years. What has stayed the same is the amount of whiny posters who would prefer to stand very close the edge with a myopic view of the Pats World, instead of having confidence in the Patriots and the BB brain trust. Unfortunately there are many who believe the Pats are doomed before we see the final edition of this team and how it all comes together.

#Ian

Check out this classless post from a plagiarist who really wants to get into
The Patsfans Hall of Fame !

I will increase my donations to keep him out.
Wow, I had felt bad bruin was way out of line talking about your family, but my dislikes were for going after @BaconGrundleCandy (note the correct way to tag someone here) the guy who unquestionably does the most research of anyone here. I disagree with him plenty but he ALWAYS has stats, video, and actual information to back up his opinion. Something no one can say about you. He is a gift to the forum and is on par with NFL drafters in his hit rate. If anything Ian should be paying him but he gives us top notch analysis for free. What kind of petty, I would say the word for female dog but that’s an insult to man’s best friend, goes on a 20 post and counting dislike spree? Time to step away from the keyboard and go reevaluate your life.

I commented earlier in another thread that it seems like every other thread has the tone that a typical game day thread has. I think we're spoiled. The 20year dynasty is 3 years gone by and people are impatient. Imagine what Jets fans are going through.

If I let every "the board sucks" post, message, etc. really get to me, I would have ripped out the remainder of my hair by now. When I was younger, I think it bothered me more. Now, I just realize I only have so much time on this earth and it's easier to scroll past than to engage elsewhere, which I wish happened a little more here. Although, I still felt it was better to give people the ability to mute those who they don't want to hear from. But aside from that, I don't get the need to always get the last word.

However, I've had additional thoughts over the last couple of days where a daily post limit may start being imposed on some that are just starting to go too far. I'm looking internally at what it would take to implement it as I think most people know I'm not a fan of booting people, but I've noticed a few who, when you look at their history, haven't had much to offer in terms of discussion and seem to enjoy whatever potential disaster they believe is always coming. Rather than boot them, I believe possibly limiting the amount they can do that may come into play. So for those who fall into that category, please keep that in mind.

If Bacon boy posts of other people work impresses you, your an easy mark.

Maybe I went overboard with the dislikes, I will go pull them.

I have one guy who has been stalking me with dislikes since the political forum &
I finally decided to give him a taste of his own medicine.

When I seen back to back dislikes, I responded.

He never replies to posts or private messages, but he now knows I will respond accordingly

give me a couple minutes to pull them

Since we're talking about the state of the board, the contests are obviously coming back for this season. The picks should be back up and running on Monday at some point, depending on what I get done this weekend. The predict the score will probably start on Wednesday in a different form. Have something in mind I'm testing out, so we'll see how that goes. There's also an additional contest I'm working on that I think should be fun as well, and that will hopefully be available mid-week as well.

I'd like to add a few points to this discussion:

1). It's important to remember we're here to ENJOY the Patriots and pro football. It's supposed to be a diversion from the crap of everyday life, even if the team is doing poorly.

2). Being a "homer" (actively rooting for the team) is nothing to be ashamed of; in fact, I think it should be encouraged. That doesn't mean denying reality when things go bad, but folks shouldn't be shamed for looking on the bright side (unless you're a Jete fan).

3). This league is designed for team fortunes to be cyclical. As fans we've been spoiled by an unprecedented run of success, let's keep that in perspective.

Homer gets thrown around way too much, likely because any form of optimism is frowned upon from people who tend to always be expecting the worst. I get that we're adjusting to not being penciled in for January (or February) anymore, but I feel like I enjoyed the ride a little more last year primarily because I never knew what to expect week in and week out. Sunday is one of only two days we don't have to think about work and I agree, it's a distraction I definitely look forward to.
