Surprise cut thread

Bob Dee. Jim Lee Hunt.
Let's review:
Bob Dee was a 4x AFL All-Star and 4x 2nd Team ALL-AFL

Jim Hunt was a 4x AFL All-Star and 4x 2nd Team ALL-AFL

Hell, do you understand that Hunt was 5'11 and 255 lbs playing DT? He had the name Earthquake.

I can say that I never watched him., but I HEARD about him..

Why is it that you claim they don't deserve to have their numbers retired?

Neither are in Canton. Neither is considered an All-time player at their position.

Players like Pedro, Orr, Bird and, yes, (eventually) Brady are they types of players who deserve to have their numbers retired. Those two guys, while very good players, dont.

*sigh* So what that neither is in Canton. Since when does being in Canton determine whether or not a team retires a number.

How many players from the AFL are in the Hall of Fame? I mean, I can't tell because the HOF page doesn't actually have a Search Filter for it.

Through articles, I was able to find that there are 33 people affiliated with the AFL in the Pro Football HOF. That includes Coaches and Owners. 26 are players, though only 14 are from the AFL All-Time team.

I've already admitted that I never got to see them play because it was before I was even born, but you aren't exactly making a great case.

How many teams were in the AFL? 8?
Being all AFL 4 times and second team 4 times is a nice career but it isn’t number retiring good. Or it shouldn’t be. Only generational player, who were dominant should have that honor.

8, then Cincinnati & Miami for the last couple of seasons of the AFL…

We have fewer older aging vets this year, so the "surprising vet" being cut is less likely. I guess we were all a bit surprised at Hightower, Van Noy, Collins, and Jakob Johnson being unsigned, and Shaq Mason being traded.

Really, Shaq was the only surprise.

I’m watching Jonathan Jones, Lawrence Guy Nick Folk
I agree on Jonathon jones.

Last year our season seemed to implode after he got hurt.

Since then bb has brought in a lot of slot guys to add depth as well as fix that hole in his defense.
Yeah looking at Jones' contract, he could be a guy to keep an eye on if the rookies show anything in camp. $5.68M in cap savings and only a $2M in dead money.

The Jones rooks Wade seems to be making some plays.
Jonathan Jones should net at least a fourth or fifth round pick.
His tape against Tyreek alone should net that.
However I don’t think he is as explosive since the most recent injury.

Looking at Folk he had a hell of a season in spite of injuries he sustained.
At his age it isn’t out of the realm of possibility he loses enough power on that leg to see the journeyman behind him as a adequate replacement or upgrade.

As far as Guy youth and scheme.
I think the defensive is evolving to more of a attack style and if we look at a player like Ray coming in making plays he could make Guy expendable.

I am interested to see how much bb plays jones in the preseason. If he has lost a step, I agree, bb might send him away.

How could a shoulder injury make a corner less explosive?

It is possible, but I think unlikely. BB has the opportunity to keep J Jones this year and transition to M Jones or Wade (or both) next year. That means we can spend J Jones' dollars on a outside CB for 2023 and onward.

Guy would not surprise me as much. But a lot of these guys are not high dollars. Maybe Wise if Jennings and Perkins are improved? I think Wise is more likely but I think this is his last year too, so less likely.

Similarly I think the plan is for Thornton to replace Agholor, and Nixon to replace Meyers, as they are both on expiring contracts also.

So in their last contract year, it could be J Jones, Wise, Guy, Agholor, or Meyers. My guess, having thought about it more, is Wise and Agholor because Jennings and Perkins may make Wise expendable, and Parker + Thornton make Agholor expendable (plus a big cap savings + a desirable player for a team with WR injuries).

Jennings and Perkins don’t play the same position/role as Wise.
In essence they are sharing the same amount of snaps, but Perkins and Jennings are playing the edge when we have 2 true DL on the field and Wise plays when we want the 3rd DL out there.
Wises snaps would go to Henry Anderson or Ekaube
