With players reporting to Gillette Stadium, it appears the Patriots have made a change with one of their uniform numbers.
Newly signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs has finalized what number he’ll be wearing in 2025, with the team posting a photo on social media revealing that the veteran receiver will wear the #8 this season.
He takes over the number previously worn by linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley, who was recently released by the team.
It’s a change for Diggs, who previously wore the #1 in Houston and the #14 in Buffalo. The #1 jersey currently belongs to last year’s second-round pick Ja’Lynn Polk, who struggled last season but has reportedly been working hard so far this spring ahead of his sophomore season.
Some had wondered if Diggs might try and wrestle the number away from the young wideout, but Diggs showed Polk some support after signing with the Patriots, telling fans they can expect good things from the second-year player in the coming months.
“Nah, we ‘on’t do that & young boy boutta have a good year … believe in ’em,” wrote Diggs in an Instagram Story via Mike Kadlick.
Diggs was among quite a few players back at the stadium Monday as the club starts preparing for the upcoming 2025 season.
