OT: Watson to Brownies

"And Anderson confirms our report from last week that, as to the five cases on which the NFL focused, there was no evidence of violence, force, threat or coercion."

I've followed the case, and think that's nonsense.

Exposing your erect penis and using it to touch a massage therapist isn't coercion?

Putting a massage therapist's hands on your erection isn't coercion?

Having an orgasm and getting the resulting bodily fluids on a shocked massage therapist doesn't bear mentioning?

Is a reporter (Anderson) fit to say what meets these standards?

Doesn't this statement come across to you as spin control?

She said she “was told” which hardly corroborates the facts, it just likely means the person saying that told 2 people.

Yea, Idk, just posted a tweet and an article. The previous tweet from an attorney implies there may be a reason for 2 DAs and NFL to reduce the # of cases they are using at their hearings. Maybe some of those you mention are amongst the ones deemed to be less credible?

That's the problem w/ these type of cases, all we've heard is what Buzzbee has put out in a well orchestrated fashion for maximum impact. We've yet to hear any of these women get impeached by either direct testimony or that of others, or seen all documentation that may be available. Maybe the DA & NFL investigators did some of that and decided just to focus on a few of the cases. Again, Idk. We'll probably never know.

But yea, could just be spin from the Watson or NFLPA side, but for what purpose? It's not like that'll affect Judge Robinson. You'd think if the NFL wanted to bury Watson they would've brought as many cases as possible in front of the Judge. Why only five? It's just weird.

I thought all the women settled except five? Hard to put forward cases without enough evidence to charge and the woman has settled.

They're also playing to the larger audience, NFL fans. Look, no evidence of violence or force! No one claimed there was, but we can shout this from the rooftops. Lots of evidence of other devious and deviant behavior, but let's ignore that. Our legal team even says we can even claim no coercion. See, he ain't a bad fella after all!

You would think that if the NFL really wanted Watson to get a long suspension, instead of saying "hey, we tried, but there's that pesky judge, so he's only getting what Ben the alleged rapist got". Clearly NFL's best interest is served by the audience at large getting the impression they tried to punish that player as much as possible, but also getting a short suspension to get on with his inevitable return, hoping the public's well known short memory kicks in.

Maybe, but no matter which way this goes, there'll be a large contingent of dissatisfied people. There's no winners in this debacle.

The problem with that analysis is unless the Judge finds no evidence of a violation of PCP, any discipline she imposes can be appealed by Goodell and heard by Goodell. So he can't just say they tried but it was up to the Judge. It's still his call (again assuming there's a violation of PCP).

That's why NFL has been trying to settle this but NFLPA isn't playing. They obviously don't want to set a precedent of agreeing to a suspension that's greater than previous ones. It's a problem for Goodell, unless the evidence is so weak, the Judge in fact finds no basis for a violation, which would be both surprising and telling.

Interesting statement from Buzbee on the lack of evidence of use of violence, coersion or force. He basically confirms it except for 2 that already settled.

From below, you can see why the NFLPA considers how the NFL treated Kraft, Snyder & Jones cases, relevant to Watson's.

All of the women who have made, or intended to make, claims against the Houston Texans organization for its alleged role involving the reported sexual misconduct of former Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson have resolved their claims, Houston attorney Tony Buzbee announced Friday. The terms of the settlements, to include the amounts paid each, are confidential.

“I will have no further comment on the allegations or the Texans’ role, other than to say that there is a marked contrast in the way in which the Texans addressed these allegations, and the way in which Watson’s team has done so. As previously reported, only one of the 30 women who made allegations against the Texans filed a formal lawsuit. That particular lawsuit will be dismissed with prejudice as soon as the appropriate settlement paperwork is complete.

Texans were smart to settle all these claims at once. It's obvious they're guilty as sin since they settled.

“We were shocked and deeply saddened when we first learned of the allegations against our then franchise quarterback in March 2021,” said the statement from owners Janice McNair and Hannah and Cal McNair. “Although our organization did not have any knowledge of Deshaun Watson’s alleged misconduct, we have intentionally chosen to resolve this matter amicably. This is not an admission of any wrongdoing, but instead a clear stand against any form of sexual assault and misconduct.

More posturing via the press, especially if you note the "if he is suspended for a full season".

So, he'll sue for all the money he's losing? Even if he were to win, the damages would be very small.
