Red Unis are BACK!

You are correct. Blue was the official color of the Revolutionary Army . Red was the enemy's color.
However, the original red jerseys actually looked cool. While the Bledsoe-era unis were ugly as he'll.
What I'd like is keep the exact original unis-full shoulder circle-pat patriot on helmet but navy blue jerseys instead of red.
As for the losing, yeah there's that. But mid-late 70's had some good years.

im guessing the Pats went with red because the Giants already had blue uniforms and wanted to distinguish themselves
The Giants were huge. Popular. Easy to root for.

Today, in 2022, there are still lots of Giants fans right here in New England.

After Tittle, they fell off. Impressive that they were still good even after losing Lombardi & Landry.

But for my generation, we just hate them, for several obvious reasons. The fact that they in fact were a real laughingstock for twenty years while everyone gave the Pats crap (when they weren't ignoring us), is one of them. Another is CBS piping their stupid, meaningless games into our market so we couldn't watch any of the relevant games. Part of me means it when I say to these people, "You like them so much, then move to New York!"

My boss, a big squeeler fan, brought up the new Unis. After I gushed w excitement and then complained about the shoulder stripes, he was like:

„ just focus on the helmet! That was the best helmet ever. „

if you get that kind of love /respect from a squeeler, you gotta be good.

Go Pat Patriot!!

Not even close to most other teams.

Saints, Falcons, Broncos, Giants, Bears; the list is endless.

The Patriots were better than the Steelers in every decade except the 70's - when we were the only team to come back and beat them at Three Rivers (in the regular season), and would have beaten them there again that year if not for Dreith.

The seven straight losing seasons (our longest by far) from 1967-1973 include the end of the Holovak era (1966 UPI AFL COY) and the start of the Fairbanks era (1976 UPI & Sporting News NFL COY). Despite getting the utter crap kicked out of him, Jim Plunkett still played very well, winning more games than the team should've and being near the top in league passing yards.

The Patriots had one (1) losing season in thirteen years from 1976-1988. The 80's team would have gone farther and won more, if not for Raymond Berry's love affair with Tony Eason.

Sort of. Anyway, they had to wear something different to distinguish themselves from the British.
Red was the enemy's color.
We have as much red in ours as they do

The Chiefs, Cardinals, Falcons & 49ers use different shades of primary red.

Donkeys used to wear red, and Bucs do now.

A zillion teams use primary blue.

I had nothing to do with this:

Pat Patriot has been rated the best logo in the NFL.

The flying elvis has been rated the fifth-worst logo in the HISTORY of ALL sports, professional and collegiate.

Around 1970-71 I was 10-11 you could buy NFL branded helmets and pads in the department store for backyard games. i wanted to get a Jets or Packers helmet which was cool at the time but my dad said why dont you get a Patriots helmet which I did. Well I was the laughingstock and shamed in school for my Pat Patriots helmet but way ahead of of the pack. I kept that helmet and gave it to my little boy last half of the 80's who played with it outside and someone stole it because I guess the Patriots were starting to become cool after that 85 season and the Super bowl trip.

I wish Flying Elvii would retire...
So I refer to them as KraftFans, or FakeFans; who 100% buy the false laughingstock narrative, and listen to a guy who knew and cared nothing about us and tried to move the team to St. Louis. They hated the team prior to 1993, and 100% buy the media hysteria over anything they could blow up into a fake controversy or scandal. The league didn't start this, local Boston media did. Every win was ignored and forgotten, and every loss was magnified.

Some of this is related to dislike of Billy Sullivan. Sure, there's legit criticism of him. John Y. Brown was a jerk, but that didn't make me hate the Celtics. Or develop intentional, selective amnesia regarding the team's many wins.

Pat Patriot is 'historically accurate', holding an appropriate, anachronistic football. Red, white and blue are the USA colors. Over three decades of support qualifies primary red jerseys as established. And popular. Propagated negative fiction about this team is unmatched anywhere in athletic history. Any real fan desires debunking and exposing the B.S. while honoring the many worthy contributors who are mostly disparaged. And resents being dismissed when not being shat upon.

My takeaway from this thread, mostly positive/in support of the throwback-variarions

...but the shoulder stripes suck. Hard.
Its just fun seeing something different... Nostalgia is big business

Pat Patriot is 'historically accurate'

That is because he's wearing a BLUE coat; at least the cartoonist got it right. The Sullivans either had skipped history class or were drunk (or both) when they decided on red jerseys.

So...only 2 games it seems...i was hoping for 3 at least

Week 5 and week 13
Both home games
We get to see the Pats twice this year! After ten years...

Used to be able to see them every week, back in the old days.

This sounds a lot like...oh well
