OT: Watson to Brownies

I don't think it is.

If a high profile employee of any company was accused of what Watson did I am pretty sure they would be summarily fired. Honestly if they were accused of even 1/10 of what he did they probably would be. His behavior is that far out there.

Let the team(s) decide, not the league. The league is a football league front office, not an investigation agency or police force.

Watson's contract with the Browns was clearly written knowing that he will be suspended for most or all of the 2022 season.

His base salary for 2022 is slightly north of 1 mil, while the rest of the years his base salary is $46 mil (all of it guaranteed)

It would be amusing if the Browns were somehow forced to cut him this year as it would cause a $219,972,000 cap hit for 2022, leaving them $177,810,282 OVER the cap!

I'm not saying it was smart to sign him, only that the Browns were clearly expecting him to get suspended this year. Luckily, they still have a very disgruntled Baker Mayfield, which should make for some fun watching!

Caserio should get Executive of the Year for this trade alone! I wonder if they will give it to him?

The NFL could really screw him over by either put him on the commissioner's exempt list or even let him play this year and delay punishment until after the trials. That means he would be suspended without pay when the real money kicks.

Excellent take.

Now for the worse news. I heard this morning that one angle that Watson's lawyer will use in his defense is how Bob Kraft was allowed to walk after his incident at Orchards of Asia. I hope that rumor isn't true.
Of course he will. Why do you hope it’s not true?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's why we are seeing these cases being settled.

He tried. They all turned down his initial offer.
That's not the way it went. He offered $100k but only 20 of 24 accepted the offer. He insisted that all 24 settle so he withrew the offer. Now we have the same result w/ probably a bump on the initial offer. The 4 women want to go to trial, where they probably lose now that the other cases are settled.

Why didn't Watson pull a Depp and do a defamation lawsuit to force these women to show some evidence?

We saw what happened with Amber Heard. Boy did she look bad.

Whatever he pays today is going to be tens of millions dollars less than what it would cost him next year if he let this play out and the NFL doesn't suspend him until after it does even if he won every case.

"Last year, Deshaun Watson was ready to pay each of 22 plaintiffs who had sued him for sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions $100,000 in order to resolve the pending lawsuits. All but four were ready to end the process. Watson declined to settle with fewer than all of the plaintiffs, however."

The plantiffs had more leverage today than they did last year. Watson needs to get the league to issue their suspension before this year especially if the NFL is going to give him a full year suspension (which is rumored to be what they are going to give him). I wouldn't be surprised if they got far more than what Watson offered last year. They know that he is making $1 million for the entire year this year ($59 k per game) and $2.7 million per game next year. He misses just one game next year that could have been this year if he settled before the season, he loses over $2 million in base pay than if the suspension was one of the games this season.

That's kinda the point I was making....

I'm tired of the Pats being singled out in the media. They'll have a field day.
It's not like Kraft was caught with bags of money and drugs in his car and a dead girl in his home.

Sure, but when the SA publicly announced Kraft's indictment in West Palm Beach, he said he was caught up in a human trafficking ring. So there's that.

We can only guess why Watson settled with 20 women instead of taking them to court. My guess is that he's as guilty as sin and has the money to pay for their silence.

He's likely guilty of nothing much beyond being an obnoxious jerk of a customer and doesn't want to deal with the hassle of hearing that fact mentioned twenty separate times; so...

Either that or he sees the practical aspect of serving his suspension now instead of next year. There’s a ~$45 million difference in salary on the line.
