DRAFT Welcome Pierre Strong, Jr - Pick # 127.

While we didn’t get any of the big names in this draft they added all sorts of speed and athleticism to the battle for positions on this team. The rest of the off-season will be really interesting to follow. We all wanted them to get younger, faster, and more athletic, and they clearly added the competition to do just that. They could conceivably clean house on many veteran players, and this season could be a struggle, but this may be the best way to get back to the top of the heap faster. I’m looking forward to seeing how this all comes together. We could see them shopping a bunch of mid level veteran players if the young guys compete well enough for the spots, that could bode well for the next couple of drafts.

Let's see where the big names are in five years.

We all get excited about adding new talent to the team, but the information suggests that this is a poor draft crop, and we will see in five years or so how much fruit it bears.

Even the UDFA crop looks underwhelming.

In most drafts, there is a big name or two that go inexplicably drafted, but were there any this year?

One of my favorite moves about the Pats' draft this year, was getting Carolina's #3 next year.

So how does next years' draft crop look at this early stage?

Yes.

Poor man's?

We'll see.

This guy looks like he will be an impact player for us.
One is HOFer and one is 3rd/4th string. Let's not put him in Canton just yet, as Parcells said about Martin.
I like the pick so there's that but he has a lot to prove.

After Zion I had him as the high rated OG on my board, I simply didn't think they'd go guard in the first.

I'm ecstatic with Strange, Strong and happy with Zappe.

Thorton was a reach IMO but he's is the fastest guy in the draft, even he might surprise.

Jack Jones was a terrible pick IMO, small, weak, slow... jag.
you don’t know Jack!

Best pick of the draft. This kid is electric.
Agree 1000%, he was definitely the Pat’s best pick, though I’m very excited about Thornton’s explosiveness as well. If Strong can become better as a receiving back as well, what a weapon he can become.

Exceptional vision and cut back ability. Poor man’s Curtis Martin.
Martin never had Strong’s sprinter’s speed, but man was he elusive. Great cuts, a slasher, great vision and ran with power despite his size (5’11” 205). Don’t think Strong is as elusive as Martin. Martin may be the most underrated Hall Of Fame running back ever, because he wasn’t the type to talk a lot. But I could see some Martin in Strong. Strong has great vision, and makes some subtle cuts to get extra yardage. He isn’t just all about the speed, but man can he fly, they said he had 10 fifty+ yard runs in his career.

Was going to make a joke about Strong being the next Walter Payton, but seriously, his lean and his fluid change of direction and burst actually does resemble sweetness.

After watching speedy Taylor torch the league (and the Pats), I'm guessing BB decided to upgrade (DHarris 4.57, Rham 4.64). The weight's the big difference, obviously, but Taylor ran a 10.49 100m in HS, and Strong's got faster splits all throughout (prob due to the lower weight). I could only find a 12.00 100m for Strong in HS, but I'm guessing his times just aren't out there. My speculation is that if this guy gets space, he is probably GONE.

Darnit (really? I can't say damnm it?) - I should've put him in my contest picks, but I got too cute. BGC nailed this one.
Cool. So basically we drafted Jonathan Taylor, Tyreek Hill, and some 5'8 corner that can take away 3 halves of the field.

After-draft optimism is the best.

I previously mentioned that I see some Jamal Charles in Strong, but I think I also see some LeSean McCoy in him as well. Especially the way he holds the ball haha.

We will see how it turns out. They really needed a big infusion of young fast athletic players, and they had to go with numbers if they are going to achieve that. They need to build a nucleus of young leaders for the different units to become a serious contender over the long run.

Never knew that Payton played in a D2 school when he was drafted. (JSU's been reclassified a bunch of times and is now FCS.)

It is a strange draft. Many of us wanted DT and LB and some wanted speedy receiver.

Not the first time. I can remember drafts where it was considered a STRONG LB draft only to have BB not take one. Same for WR. It's why I stopped getting all worked up about who he drafted and decided to try and learn about WHY he drafted a particular player. Some people have resorted to calling that being a Kool-Aid drinker or BB Brown-Noser. I call it trying to improve my knowledge. *shrug*
