I mean he could be a good long term solution. Just because the ESPN mediates had him ranked lower does not mean that he will suck. He can play both guard and center and fixing the line is very important with mason gone and andrews getting long in the tooth. I do think they should have tried to trade up for Penning or David

The sad part is, they're not wrong. They valued Strange at pick #104. Was BB high on drugs this draft night? Because this pick is inexplicable!

If he is a second round pick, he isn‘t a huge reach at 29. You may be right that there could be more impact players available though.

But the Pats don’t need solid players. They need some highly talented players. Teams filled with solid players tend be competitive, but win 9-10 games tops and lose in the first or, maybe in a good year,the second round of the playoffs.

The general consensus about this is that after the elite players, the draft is deep with the second tier players and there isn’t a huge difference between players taken in second half of the first round and in the second round. That is why so many teams wanted to trade down in the first round. So they still have a chance to get high talent players.

Imagine putting in that many hours of work as a scout or a coach just to have the team pick a 24 year old guy who you could have gotten in the second or third round.

Or it could’ve been that the scouts all really liked Strange, Bill felt the need at guard was really important and he said let’s just take him. He may not care that much if it’s a round and a half early, he got a guy that his scouts graded highly at a position of need.
