2022 Mock Drafts

I like all the players; but... We need to come out of this draft with a legit-sized 4-3 DE to give Judon some help.
I agree and would ultimately like to get Jermaine Johnson III in the first, but him likely gone I'd settle for a true 1st Rd talent. As long as we nail the first couple of picks I could live with still having a position unaddressed. Safety, RB, TE and WR take a back seat in my list of desired positions.

Arif Hassan's Consensus Big Board is now up on Fanspeak's On the Clock page... Just finished one, but I don't subscribe so I couldn't make trades:

21: R1 P21 DL Jordan Davis - Georgia

54: R2 P22 EDGE Cameron Thomas - San Diego State

85: R3 P21 CB Alontae Taylor - Tennessee

127: R4 P22 G Zach Tom - Wake Forest

158: R5 P15 CB Damarri Mathis - Pittsburgh

170: R5 P27 WR Kevin Austin Jr. - Notre Dame

200: R6 P21 OT Vederian Lowe - Illinois

210: R6 P31 LB Micah McFadden - Indiana

Davis was just too tempting to pass-over, even with Jermaine Johnson, George Karlafits, Andrew Booth & Kaiir Elam still available;

I didn't like the OLmen, WRs or CBs available at 54 as I did Cam Thomas at DE, a shamefully under-reported need;

I was tempted by the athleticism of Zion McCollum & the potential of Jalen Armor-Davis, but to end our Day 2 I instead chose a CB who is more ready to see the field on Opening Day and isn't a slouch himself athletically, Alontae Taylor;

I chose Zachary Tom out of a group that included Joshua Ezeudu, Logan Bruss & Matt Waletzko because of his potential versatility at both Left Tackle and Center - a rare combination;

I wasn't prepared to take another CB so early, but when looking at each position I noticed that Damarri Mathis was By Far the best available CB, and I wanted to come out of this draft with Two of them;

I wanted another WR for the pipeline and to complete the depth chart, and Austin's athleticism is absolutely worth a shot here at 170... Bo Melton was already gone, by 158 I believe;

I also wanted to come out of this draft with Two OLmen as well as two CBs, and Lowe, while not a very good athlete, does have the physical tools necessary to be given a shot at staying outside at Tackle... And he's still a dam sight better than the rancid ****ing Garbage we currently have as our backups here;

And finally, this is where you draft a LB, who also happened to be one of the best players available regardless of position.

Did one with no trades on Fanspeak:

21: Dax Hill S
54: Travis Jones DL
85: Leo Chenal LB
127: James Cook RB
158: Matt Ariaza P (saving 3 million with a 5th rounder? Okay)
170: Micah McFadden LB
200: Jack Jones CB
210: Marquan McCall DL

It's tough when you go to a new board...the consensus this year just isn't there!

Since you drafted two big defensive tackles, are you planning on sending godchaux packing?

McCall is a work in progress - not expecting my last pick to do much in year one. So no. I hate dead money and think Godchaux needs a monster beside him on running downs (Jones).

Godchaux is the second best guy on that line (if you think of Judon as an LB).

They were both bad, but for the money he was paid, Godsmack was worse.
I don't factor contracts into evaluations. Players make what they're able to make.

I don't think either of those two were put in the best position to succeed last year, but Guy stuck out to me as just not being the same player as the year before. Age? Unreported injury?

Two different players at different points in their careers.

Godchaux - plays high and on skates. Nothing like what we saw in Miami.

Guy - plays with leverage and does his job effectively, but wears down and after a dozen snaps is completely out of gas.

This is one of the reasons you wind up with the 25th ranked run defense.

So why was Godchaux playing differently?

In my experience in any sport, that is indicative of asking someone to do too much. Pressing…

Like Van Noy at the end of last year. So get a DT, a true 2-gapper, and let God play to his strengths, right?

Also, 7/per for a vet DL who is playing the most snaps on your line is not expensive.

I do not know what changed with godchaux.

But I think godchaux played higher in New England and lacked the same strength he had prior to the injury he sustained in Miami.

Does this place do any Pats mock draft contests? Maybe someone can start it up on the main forum. Not familiar with how something like that can be scored, but maybe something like this:

A play on mockout:
1 pt for player in the correct round plus...
2 pts for player on specific pick
4 pts for player on specific pick post trade

1bonus pt for correctly calling a trade up or down for a specific pick

Yeah, @patchick usually runs one although I haven’t seen her around here much recently. The prize for hitting 3 players is a poem in your honor which has only happened once I believe…..
