As of this week, we would be drafting at number 11.
some really stellar prospects will be available at 11.
I would love to see us draft nt Davis of Georgia, however I also see a clear need for a cornerback!
I personally love Davis. I really have a soft spot for guys like him. He can play the 0, 1, 5 or 3 tech if you need him to. Obviously he's a 0 or 1 tech 80-85% of his snaps, but you can move him around strategically.
He's an absolute beast and the athleticism is obviously off the charts. He has some pad level and footwork issues to clean up, there's no doubt about that. DTs at that size are obviously rare, so college OL - I mean most of those guys won't play in the NFL - have little chance against him unless they're elite.
NFL OL will be something he will need to adjust to. For example, while quick penetration is generally a good thing, he gets himself off balance and susceptible to whams and traps. He turns his shoulders and hips way too much to get through gaps quickly. Jerry Tillery was very good at that in college, but NFL offenses just don't let him get away with it.
Davis has much more upside than Tillery because he's truly a freak of nature whereas Tillery has great length but he's not an amazing athlete and he's skinny. But the same issues that plague Tillery in the NFL could be problems for Davis if he doesn't work to improve in those areas.
Davis also tends to stop his feet when two gapping and taking on double teams. That's a huge problem that will compromise his potential impact if he doesn't fix it. Sometimes you have to stop your feet if you lose leverage, but ideally you want to maintain neutral leverage and keep your lower body moving so you don't get the leverage turned on you.
But he has all the physical tools and I do think he has the athleticism and flexibility to play with NFL footwork and leverage. He doesn't seem to lack a motor and I have no reason to think he isn't coachable.
