2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

The Bolden attention isn't really any different than Malcolm Perry a couple years ago, just for different reasons. They weren't willing to draft Perry, but they jumped at the first opportunity to get him on the roster without having to use a pick (a year later via waivers). They're similar in size, bench, and 40, but Perry did better on the jumps while Bolden wins in the 10 and 20 splits, shuttle, and 3 cone. Seems like a relevant comparison since they'd be competing with each other this offseason if Bolden ends up with the Patriots.

Wouldn’t be shocked in the least if the pats nabbed him as an UDFA given the connections. But the guy is a fringe prospect.

I think he’s being hyped up on here because he’s white and there’s a stereotype about white receivers and the pats. The chances of this kid doing anything in the nfl are minuscule.

People see white receiver and think the pats can just turn them into a 100 reception a year guy.

Thanks - I completely forgot about Malcolm Perry. We let Gunner go, but are looking at Bolden. All 3 might be viewed as the same player with a 7th round or UDFA entry into the NFL, so I am not sure what letting Gunner go (Perry might be a better receiving option) or looking at a Day 3/UDFA says about Perry.

@BaconGrundleCandy what notes do you have on Cam Taylor-Britt? Sorry if you posted on him already. Search feature returned nothing.

He's fast and aggressive. I'm not sold on his stickiness or his ability to play deep (if he's a corner/free safety hybrid), but as a physical boundary player or a slot defender, I like what little I've seen so far. I'm a sucker for corners who can lay the hit stick. Fourth/fifth kind of guy to me. Reminds me of a faster, more physically talented version of Mills, actually.

I think he was insinuating that Bolden is and average WR but when we all are craving a Jules/Welker guy that we may be overreacting to Bolden. I apologize if that is not what was meant.

I think Bolden is an average guy and feel that he would be a significant downgrade from Jakobi based on WR skills/ability. I do think that already established chemistry with Mac could make up for some of that though.
The reason people are talking about Bolden is that he's from Alabama. Patriots often double dip from the same school, the same way we took Mac Jones and Barmore because we scouted that school heavily. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin and to insinuate that as a bias of the posters in this forum is insulting. Which is exactly what it sounded like from what was posted.

Gotta be one of the most ignorant comments I've ever seen.. Not to mention borderline racist.

Bolden is a 7th round/Priority UDFA. Most of us realize that. Reporters mentioning stuff when he has a visit set up with the Pats is normal. It's their job. And it getting mentioned here is normal.
I think the poster must be Dennis Rodman.

Yea I really like him as a C3 defender patrolling a 1/3. Which we might be playing more of? Very physical and aggressive he makes it a point set a tone. I like his feet on the line and in a short area. Route recognition needs work but he could be eased in with a zone role or a team that primarily plays zone imo even though he's tough at the line.

I have to update the PTP board for value but I have a 3rd on him.

This is it, if you need a receiver, and the free agents are getting OMG prices, it makes the draft picks more valuable.
I general WR's have a bigger impact than they did years ago. Rules, play style, route concepts - adjustments & options etc It's just a different league in that respect.

Gunner was not "let go". He wasn't tendered, got an offer from the Steelers that the Pats matched, but he decided he was better off going to the Steelers, probably because they said they'd give him a legit shot at WR. He attended their informal QB/WR event in Florida.

BB loves letting guys "test the market" to avoid arguing about their market value. Did that with Edelman in 2012 and got to re-sign him for next to nothing. Tried it with Woodhead and lost him to the Chargers. Same sh*t with Gunner. On a larger scale, similar sh*t with not franchising JC Jackson.

Cool, thanks. You're maybe a tad more sanguine on his pro prospects than I am. I like his game a lot, but I see him a year or two off from being an actual starter. I'd prefer to get a guy who could slide right in to the spot Jackson is vacating. As you say, though, if we're running more zone this year, and he can just keep things in front of him and come up and hit, then maybe he is that guy. Love watching him tackle!

Yea hes got to clean some stuff up. His physicality, attitude and athleticism willing be enticing to a lot of teams. I'd be a little surprised to see him go after RD3 but we'll see.

That's a tough ask to full JC's spot. That's one of the big names. Then maybe Gordon or McCreary. One guy that hasn't been mentioned is Kyler McMichael. He's got man / press potential. I have a 3rd on him.

He reminds me of Shaun Wade.

He's 235lbs. He's not going to play like HT or Bentley.

A tackle, Zyon McCollum, Cade Mays or Cole Strange or some other IOL, Matt Ariaza...

If they could get just those three? I think it would be a good haul, but not sure it overwrites the "lesser" pick needs.
Dean is more like 229-230. At 5'11 230 lbs i have visions of him meeting Josh Allen in the hole and Allen at 245-250 lbs running Dean over.

My first line was about McGrone. And yeah, Dean is smaller - but I'll accept collisions between a tough 230-240 LB against Allen. Allen is a QB...bumps and bruises take a toll on that position.

Just looked at a draft composite of mocks from “experts” for ye Pats in Round 1.

CB: McDuffie (1), Elam (4), McCreary (1), Booth (2)
LB: Lloyd (6), Dean (1)
WR: Williams (3)
OL: Greene (1), Johnson (2)
S: Pitre (2), Hill (1)

So: 8 CB, 7 LB, 3 WR, 3 OL, 3 S

Just found it interesting. A couple included small trades, up or down.
