Mac working out with receivers in Tampa

I love these little snippets. We don’t have the greatest receivers, don’t have the name receivers, but what they don’t lack, is confidence. They all seem really excited about their group. And all seem really confident, and seem to be all in on Mac. Every time they show him in the snippets, they’re saying things like “there’s the guy”, I really get excited when I see this.

I always wanted the Pats to draft Mac Jones. I literally screamed in joy when they drafted him. I always liked the back story on Jones. That dude is just different, has a **** load of self confidence, even when he was the scout QB at Alabama. To go from under recruited to record breaking champion QB at Alabama, just shows who Mac is. He will always have his doubters, and like someone else we had once, it will drive him to prove people wrong.

Mac gets compared to Brady a lot, because he's a pocket passer whose success depends on smarts and accuracy rather than pure athleticism. I think those comparisons are MASSIVELY unfair (probably to both guys), but one thing they both definitely have is an underdog mentality. Mac doesn't have the 6th round pick chip he can carry, but he's been underrated at just about every level, and uses that for motivation just like Brady has. Now, Brady made that motivation work for decades, long after the criticisms had died out (aside from a vocal minority of talking heads), so we'll see what happens if Mac has some success. But the kid is tough, works hard, and has a reason to prove everyone wrong. That can carry you a long way.

FWIW, I think Charlie Weis said that Mac is ahead of his development over Brady at this point in their careers.

He also said Mac has an incredibly high ceiling.

The media is doing what they always do: Making ridiculously unfair comparisons and then, after some time passes and the player fails to live up to the comparison, they bash him for being overrated when they were the ones who overrated him in the first place.

Looks like the Patriots lost another key piece of last year this offseason - Mac Jones' dad bod.

I just hope Mac is working on this during the offseason. There's no crying in football.

Speaking of Mac I was watching some of his throws from last year Mac throws a nice deep ball love his touch. Agholor was on the end of most of them Bourne too but it just seems like we didn't do it enough.

Underdog mentality? Jones had a full scholarship to the #1 program in the country. He started every game of his Junior year en route to a national championship. He was drafted in the 1st round and handed the starting job for his rookie season.

Brady started out his collegiate career 7th on the Michigan depth chart. He was splitting time at quarterback with Drew Henson in his senior year. He was a 6th round draft pick and 4th on the depth chart for his rookie season. He only got his chance as a starter in the NFL after Bledsoe got knocked into oblivion. Brady went on to became the greatest player in the history of the NFL. That's a true underdog story for the ages.

+1 +1 +1

Nothing says "underdog" like being the starting QB for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Hell, they could put ME under center and still go 9-2.

TB12 famously had 6 QBs taken ahead of him. He then led the Pats to 6 SBs.

Mac had 4 QBs taken ahead of him...

I mean if that comes to pass we will all go to our graves as the absoluteliest most spoiled fans of any fandom in the history of ever.

There's definitely no comparing the degrees of underdog. Agreed 100% on that.

But it's not accurate to portray Mac like you're doing. He did start out bottom of the depth chart in his school, and didn't get a chance until his Junior year. He was drafted as the 5th QB in his class. Also, the starting job as a rookie was definitely not handed to him, he had to beat out a 9 year vet QB and clearly did so.

You mean the corpse of Cam Newton?

so, why not? What’s wrong with that? I’d be okay with it.
