Player Signing Jabrill Peppers signs with N.E.

I'm a fan of this move. This team is in need of some quality/talent and Peppers fits the BILL. (PUN INTENDED)

At worst he's quality depth ..best case he forced himself onto the starting 11. Low risk High reward.

Bill doin' Bill things...
(Shout out Joe Judge who I'm sure offered some insight)

More talent on the defensive side of the ball is definitely a good thing. Hopefully he takes to New England as well as Phillips did. Feels like they're really leaning heavily into the amorphous defensive backfield strategy. Lots of guys back there right now that are either better in zone or play multiple positions. Lots of guys labeled as "DB" instead of straight corner or safety.

If the Patriots are committed to going smaller/quicker I wonder if he will play some in pass sets.

Will help in special teams, maybe even as returning punts.

Worst case is we at least have a punt returner now. Expected outcome is he's a solid punt returner and sub LB. Best case is either full time at LB or DB, or competent part time player at both positions.

This seems like a good signing, I like it.

Peppers is an intriguing fit with the #Patriots. Can play in the box, over the slot, and deep safety while also contributing on special teams.

Although it hasn’t worked out for Peppers in the NFL

Anyone want to try reconciling those two parts of the Lazar quote?

we've seen some use of the quarter defense, do we have a name for an 8 dback defense yet?

Pats going to a 4-7 defense.
An excerpt from Mark Daniels on how he was used in 2020, his career year with Judge:

Judge utilized Peppers as a chest piece on Judge’s defense. In 2020, he lined up mainly in the box (383 snaps) and as a slot cornerback (264) to go with free safety (143), defensive line (77) and outside cornerback (44). That was his best season, statically, when he finished with a career-high 91 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 11 passes defended and an interception. Last year, in six games, Peppers mainly played slot cornerback (107) followed by in the box (60), defensive line (32), outside cornerback (19) and free safety (11).

Cousin, Methinks he is going to play OLB here like Judge used him a lot. To unreliable in pass to cover WR but should be fine on TE and RB coverage which ....please note......we got killed last year on those paterns.

Hurt in 2021 most of the season but in 2020 91 Tackles 2.5 sacks, 8 tackles for loss and 3 QB hits. and 1 INT. 15PR for 187 yards in 2020. 12.5 av.

He might return punts and kicks. Was good at that. A LB returning punts.....imagine that.
