Patriots Player Departure JC Jackson Bolting to the Bolts

A lot of people who were against re-signing Jackson were saying how Jackson got most of his INTs from the most crappy QBs the Pats played with two of them being in the division every year in the Jets and Dolphins' QB of the moment. Well, that theory will be tested next year with six games against Wilson, Mahomes, and Carr.

Jackson's a very good corner with a nose for the ball. I never thought of him in the level of prime Gilly, Revis, Law, Ramsey. Fair deal for a really good player and happy to see him get paid. if Mack and Bosa can force some bad throws, JC will feast.

I will miss Jackson. He was a good Patriot. I wish him well.

But I am happy we aren't tying 16.5M/AAV into a #1 CB. We can find serviceable starters in FA and the draft for fraction of that cost...and spend money on the front 7. We have DMac in the fold, Dugger is gonna be even better, Mills cna line up all over, Bledsoe should make an impact, and we get Jon Jones back in the slot.

Now if Joe Juan would only surprise us.......(fingers crossed)

I agree. I will be proven right or proven wrong. Looking forward to finding out

Those 00s Chargers teams were pretty good. They just couldn't get past the boogeyman Patriots

We had NO BUSINESS winning that divisional playoff game back in the 2006 season....

That was a choke of epic proportions.....Reche Caldwell (RIP) along the sidelines....Troy Brown's strip of McCree's interception....

All of that after the Chargers went up 14-0 early and looked UNSTOPPABLE with LT.

Crazy.....crazy...

So it came down to a few more dollars now and a few more in the annuity.

Hes a very, very good CB.

...but hes not a Gilly 2018 level.

That's why Bill didn't stretch it.
Bill could've had him for $17m franchise tag. For one year.

It's what he'll cost the Chargers this year anyway.

Yep.

Even back in the 80s. If those Chargers teams played now they'd score 40 a game easy. Jef, Chander, Winslow, Muncie. Insane talent on O.

90s had the Bobby Ross teams.

2000s had Schottsie's guys.

A franchise held back by the Spanos family every time.

Belichick didn't think he was all that good. Let's face it.

He's clearly in the Asante Samuel, Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan camp, in Bill's eyes.

I trust Bill to know how to evaluate a pro CB.

We brought in Gilmore, Revis and Talib, let Samuel, Butler, Ryan and now Jackson go.
But there where gap years in between where there was a hole

I am not upset to see Jackson leave because for the last decade, the Pats have always found the answer for the #1 CB position. And it hasn't been the same guy or even a player that has been drafted. Over the last decade, the Pats have gone from Talib to Revis to Butler to Gilmore to Jackson. Both Jackson and Butler were undrafted free agents. Talib was considered an underachiever when he came to the Pats. People thought the Pats were crazy to pay what they paid for Gilmore. People were nervous that the Pats would move Jackson to the #1 CB spot feeling he couldn't handle it last year. I have faith in Belichick finding the next guy in that string.

..then it comes down to what Bill thinks his real AAV is.

It's clear it wasn't $17m. Tag or no tag.

Yes, but they won the Super Bowl in 2016 in one of those gap years. Logan Ryan was our top CB against the Falcons. Gilmore joined in 2017.

What's next, Nelson is jetting to the Jets?

I'm shocked that the Pats couldn't get a deal done with Jackson. We're without 2 real outside corners.. Mills was OK there, but he's best back at safety..

Everything extra JC got from the Chargers, is going to be lost to cali taxes and the general cost of living there (even for the wealthy)

To me, it seems like JC just wanted to go to different pastures, as much as it was about the dollar amount. Wouldnt surprise me if he doesn't live up to his contract on the charges. I still wish him luck as long as we're not going up against him.

I don't mean to bring up Brady again but... he was incredible that year. Our defense wasn't really that great that year, if you look past scoring defense.

Problem is that the Patriots don't have a replacement. And the bills steamrolled us in the playoffs.

Now maybe we find another #1 in the draft or free agency. But right now Patriots defense that already has holes took a step back.
