OT: Russell Wilson traded to Denver

for an aging QB who seemed to be unhappy with the franchise? They got a haul imo.
Aging? Elite QB's are routinely playing to 40 now in the last few years. There are plenty of ways to make players happy. Pay them more, can the coach, upgrade their supporting cast. They gave up a hall of fame QB who, when healthy, plays like a top 5 QB for a crappy QB, solid but aging D lineman, and young above average TE and two firsts and seconds. Hell they gave up two firsts for Jamal Adams. The Rams gave up two first round picks for Jalen Ramsey who is a good player but not a franchise QB.

Yup he’s 33. Not unreasonable to expect 5+ years

Damn. This makes things even tougher for the Patriots in the AFC.

Definitely no chance of us making the Playoffs this year.

And you guys are REALLY sleeping on Wilson. Dude has still been good, don't let the finger issue fool you. His best receiver is D.K Metcalf, who can only run like 1 or 2 routes and drops a lot of passes.

You guys are sounding like Brady haters in 2019 sounded.

I would say that the Patriots issue is the same as it was at the end of last year. They are, maybe, a bottom tier playoff team, but they're nothing more.

But fixing that is what the offseason is for, so it's too soon to declare that as their definitive 2022 fate.

Yeah, no kidding. There's no way the Pats can get a Wildcard over the Chargers or the Raiders...oh wait.

Dude, it's frickin' MARCH.

Dude, we got Matt Patricia and Joe Judge back in the room. And we have a lot of holes to fill. With limited cap room. I'm pessimistic.

You spelled whiny wrong.

Pats beat the Chargers fairly easily last year.

Pats had a rookie QB and 24 new players on their 53 - they should be miles ahead of last year without even adding anyone. Cripes.

Weapons play a role. Seattle hasn't given him much help offensively these last few years. Metcalf is explosive, but he's not a great receiver.

Lockett and Metcalf are not a bad receiver combo. Lockett has been a 1,000 plus yard receiver the last three years (965 yards the year before that) with 8-10 TDs each of the last four years. He isn't an elite WR, but he is an well above average #1 receiver. And Metcalf is a solid #2 WR.

If the Seahawks were offering Lockett in a trade and they were asking for market value in return, I would be all for the Pats trading for him.

Russell Wilson”slipping” is way overstated. He slipped a little last year but had 40 TDs in 2020 and was an MVP candidate. Tommy slipped a lot in 2018 and 2019 and got better in Tampa with all those weapons. Wilson will be fine.

You're overstating that, IMO. Brady's the only one who's done that. Roethlisberger and Manning both made it to 39, but they were just shells by then.
Drew Brees played well close to 40, Aaron Rodgers is winning MVPs in his late 30's, Phillip Rivers played reasonably well last year. Maybe 40 is a slight exaggeration but late 30's seems to be much more frequent. They don't get hit the way they used to and the game is geared toward throwing the ball so I think this trend should continue.

Lol what?

It's the right move for Seattle, definitely. Simply put, they need to completely reset their roster. This team isn't good and Wilson isn't good enough to carry them.

For Denver, I think it's a good risk to take. I'm not sure Wilson is still as good as he was a few years ago, and there's a lot of big flaws in his game, but he's a good quarterback and certainly needed on that team.

The NFC is weak sauce.

See I am not sure about that. He isn't a pocket passer. He does rely on his physical skills. And isn't big like Roethlisberger or Rodgers who can take a lot of punishment and keep playing. His size and reliance on his physical skills could be a hinderance to the length of his career.

I'd forgotten about Brees (he made it to 41), so you're right in that it's not just Brady. But, while Brees was still a viable QB during the regular season, his arm had declined to the point where he was a playoff liability. Brady's still the only recent QB who remained a legitimate SB threat into his 40's.

What does play in Wilson's favor is that he's long since learned that, when running, discretion is the better part of valor, and he gets down before he gets hit. That should help keep him healthy for longer than he otherwise would.

And just a note about your thought about a trend:

I do expect that Rodgers will still be a (theoretical) SB threat into his 40's. I would just add the note that he's Aaron Rodgers, which means that he's still likely to spit the bit at some point in each playoff run.

Wilson fetched that much haul of the century by Seattle I'm jealous.

Is he going to have better weapons in Denver than he had in Seattle? Would you rather have Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf or Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick? This is Brady in reverse when it comes to the receiving talent around him.

Rob, I don't think a Team would give up that much if they didn't think he's good enough Denver wasted some pretty good Defenses because of poor QB play. Remember BB and Patriots aren't the only Team who's known for Great trades I'm nit picking a little.

He is the reverse Eli. Plays like a superstar all year then turns into a pumpkin in the playoffs. Losing in Lambeau that many times in his post season career is inexcusable.
