Both Vikings and Bears Interested in Eliot Wolf for Open GM Position

Fail x 2

Then Wolf has drafted Patriot players who belong in Green Bay.

Per Schefter, Flores was let go because Miami wanted to micro manage. They wanted some of his assistants out.
What are you talking about?
Wolf spend 14 years in the Packers system.
His philosophy is much more likely to be consistent with what GB does than it is that in a year and a half in New England, he changed all of his philosophy left behind everything he knew and learned and now endorses the patriot way.
If he gets hired and gets a job there is no reason to believe he wants to hire a coach with a patriot background and copy a system he has little experience in.
Wolf hasn’t drafted patriots players. He is a consultant. Belichick is the Gm and Ziegler is the director of personnel.

If Wolf believes in the Green Bay system and wants to implement that when he is in charge, that has nothing to do with how he scouts players for the patriots to fit their criteria.
Damn you are deep into the weeds on this one.

Eliot Wolf already did Ziegler's job, 8 years ago. The 2 guys he's competing against for the Vikings job, he was their boss 5 years ago.
Browns were 0-16 when Wolf joined and they went 11-5 when he left. Multiple big-time players added. Also was with the Packers during their resurgence. And 2021 obviously to clear benefit for the Patriots.

Losing Eliot Wolf to have Ziegler stay is akin to giving up JC Jackson for JaJuan Williams.

Thing is, just because we want him to stay, doesn't mean he does stay.

His current title here is 'special consultant', which is IMO a give away that he doesn't see himself staying here long term.

I think he came here to rebuild his reputation and has intended to move on if/when he gets a better opportunity.

I presume he's communicated his expectations to the Patriots management.

MIN is a pretty good situation, lots of talent on the roster, just need to find a QB to replace Cousins this off season or next.

CHI is IMO a less good situation, less overall talent on the roster, more aging/overpaid vets, Fields may or may not be 'the guy'.

Both situations have long term owners who show a lot of stability.

I think if either offers Wolf the GM title and corresponding pay package, he be gone.

The fact he took the interviews is a clear signal that he's willing to look at better opportunities.

Agree.

You are going to use the success of the packers and browns to say someone there is better qualified than someone with the Patriots? Crazy thinking to be sure.
If Wolf is a better candidate than Ziegler, why did belichick choose Ziegler?

Of course he leaves if he is offered a GM job. He is a consultant here. Just a guy with front office experience who is part of the team, he isn’t running anything or making decisions.

Pats titles never meant much in the management side of things…as we all know. IMO Wolf and Ziegler are doing the same tasks.

We know the Patriots only reluctantly provide titles, like us often not having an official Defensive Coordinator.

This may or may not be in line with Wolf's desires.

He has to know that he'll never be seen as 'the guy' while BB is at the top of the org chart.

Maybe he's cool with that, or maybe this stint is just him learning how the Pats do business while he waits for the ideal GM offer.

Personally, I think it's more of the later than the former.

The prestige and salary of a GM position is hugely significant.

We often see GMs get kept while coaches get fired.

Last time I checked six or so teams were looking for new coaches this off season whereas only three were looking for new GMs.

Rarely do you see his name mentioned for GM interviews...and I think that's intentional. I think he is happy where he is now and IMO Bob is paying him quite a bit to provide scouting / personnel services that Bill listens to.

Yeah, who knows. It could be he likes the role with less responsibility than he'd have if he was "the guy".

OTOH, there's a lot of prestige and money when you're "the guy" and we do know he's taking interviews.

Who here would want Ziegler over Wolf though?

Agree. Ziegler is just 'a guy' who was McDaniels' former college roommate (just like Caserio) who has been here since tanking at his last job. Wolf had a lot more experience, he was already leading and doing what Ziegler does now, Wolf was already doing that job already 7 years ago. Wolf is the most experienced person in the Pats front office.

Wolf spend 14 years in the Packers system.
And still could not land a GM job.
His philosophy is much more likely to be consistent with what GB does than it is that in a year and a half in New England, he changed all of his philosophy left behind everything he knew and learned and now endorses the patriot way.
That is why I stated familiar with the Pats system.

Good youre learning

1. Wolf has been passed over on GM jobs. The GB experience that you rave about has done no good.
2. Wolf and Flores have job interviews.

You are getting it.

Wolf was involved in drafting a Pats QB. GB does not look for Pop Gun armed QBs.

You been smoking the weed.

How do you know that Wolf does not want to find players for an up and coming HC named Flores? You dont have a clue.

You said he would hire Flores so they could both copy the patriots system.
Wolfs experience is not in the Patriots system. If he gets a GM job he isn’t going to “copy the patriots” and hire a former patriot unless you think he decided to forget everything he knew from his entire career, come to New England, start all over and let them tell him what he thinks.
As far as the rest of your post it’s nonsensical

Wolf was with a Packers franchise that he been a longtime playoff contender, and made a lot of great personnel moves. Wolf also joined a 0-16 Browns team as assistant GM and within a short time made the Browns a 11-5 playoff team with multiple pro-bowl talents added to the roster. And most recently, the 2021 Pats draft was its best one in almost a decade since Floyd Reese was here helping BB.

If that were true why did belichick give Ziegler the power and not Wolf?
Belichick has actually met both of them, actually knows what their responsibilities have been, and knows their capabilities.
Why did me make Ziegler director of personnel and not Wolf?
Are you saying you know more about these men, their abilities, experience and talent or that despite knowing nothing about them, you can make better decisions regarding them than belichick?
If we listen to you Belichick is the most incompetent man in the NFL. He can’t evaluate players. He can’t hire good coaches, or recognize that they suck. He gives power to just a guy in the front office instead of someone much better. His game plans stink, although actually you believe he is too lazy to make one, and just decides to let the assistant that he doesn’t realize suck don’t it.
Pretty much everything about the organization, according to you is being handled as if belichick has an iq of 60.

You think Wolf “made the browns an 11-5 team”
The patriots have been the class of the nfl for 20 years.
Floyd Reese was here as a semi retired consultant for 3 years that was a down period for the patriots, but yeah belichick needed Floyd to help him. Jesus.
