Black Monday thread: the NFL Coaching Carousel

Now I'm waiting for the "BB coaching tree" post.

I don’t think Judge is about to accept a career as a ST coach for another 25 years. If he wants to work his way toward another HC job, he needs to get more involved on the offensive side of the ball. He was being mentioned as a possible OC in training when it looked like McDaniels would leave before he did. Based on his time with the Giants, there’s still some training to do there.

At least make the playoffs by the 3rd year of your program when 14/32 get in.
I would absolute say that a coach who cannot take over and make his team one of the 43% best within 3 years, failed.
I’ll say what I said before, if in his interview he said we will be 24-25 and not make the playoffs in my first 3 years but it will be because you didn’t give me good players, do you think he gets hired? Oh, and by the way I won’t be getting along with my boss.
Trying to figure out why the GM who’s been there 6 years with a record of 47-50 is safe?

In 6 years just looking at this offense personnel wise he has instability at the qb position, one of the worst OLs in football and jag rbs galore.

It really is incredible.

You have arguably the greatest GM/HC in modern professional sports history and a large majority of his employees who have left to become GMs and coaches elsewhere have been fired within their first 3 years with their new team.

The only successes you can really point to are Jon Robinson (Titans), Jason Licht and Tom Dimitroff.

BOB flamed out in HOU but he was doing OK for a while. Went to the playoffs 4 out of 7 years.

Out of close to maybe a dozen who have left, thats it.

"Hello, Nick?"...

After last weeks 3rd down qb sneak Special Teams coach may be his only option to stay in this league.

I always thought after the Cleveland "genius" group where he created a lifetime of competition for himself, Bill always hired people like Weiss, Crennel, McDaniels, BOB, Matty etc who were good football minds, but without great leadership ability.

Don't remember if it was said as much about Flores, who had just completed a SB-winning season as de-facto DC... These past 2-1/2 seasons, on the other hand, have been defined by the under-achievement & choke-artistry of the boogermen... I wouldn't touch Mayo (& Especially Little Steven) with a 10-foot pole.

this defense was second best scoring defense in the league. They were best until this past week when the offense gave up two TDs. they also gave up the least points In 2019. This is a good defense.

Well, Weis was an abject failure at ND whereas Saban barely has gotten by at Alabama and was marginally successful at LSU. Slacker.

Not sure I understand. Saban was part of the Cleveland genius group.

Sorry. I was being incredibly sarcastic with my Saban commentary. He is the shining star in the BB galaxy of understudies.

I'm not in favor of brining back all the failed HC's from under BB's wings.
We have JMD and Matty P already. We don't need Flores and Judge back.
Flores seems to have too big a chip to "demote" himself, and Judge is just a wack-job.
We'll see how it plays out with Patricia this offseason. But he was a pretty good DC here.

When all is said and done, the most successful BB-tree coach might be the one who never coached under him - Vrabel.
how ironic.

Yeah, I just wonder if he’s better off taking an offensive/ST consultant type role for a year or two rather than going solely STs and getting stuck there. The Giants are presumably still paying him big bucks next season, so he has the opportunity to take a lower paying role that gets him into the offensive meeting room. Basically, I think he’s better off being more Patricia (adding personnel/analytics to his defensive coaching) and less McDaniels (entire HC resume is still just his work as OC).

Also - I hate coaches or people in charge of things who finish every statement with "okay" or "alright".
It's like they're having to convince themselves and try to prove that they're smarter than those around them.

Getting the impression that all these former BB coaches were very good at what they were doing but when it comes to managing people, they fall on their faces.

"Lies... dam lies... and statistics."

Not all. JMD fits in what you said I think he is a genius personally compare some of the his schemes in 2014-18 vs the basic formations of Tampa which relied heavily on Tommy & talent around him rather than schemes.

but I would say the majority of the others had success because they were surrounded by the best football mind of all time and the best football player of all time. Hell I would have success
