Black Monday thread: the NFL Coaching Carousel

Yep; not Fangio’s fault that two of his jabronis couldn’t keep their greasy hands on the football… Though there was also the 3rd/20 thingy…
Also not his fault that Horse Face used his profound understanding of the QB position to saddle him with Drew Lock and pass on any/all decent upgrades he could have made over the last few seasons.

Well he had a losing record and zero playoff appearances….
And many failures lose their job over “matters” with their boss.
Miami has a bunch of young no name players. Only one pro bowler on that team. Flores did a good job of inspiring and getting the most out of the players despite terrible drafts by the GM.

Getting fired over "office politics" is not a sign of failure.

The Utah punt returner, who declared for the draft, is the grandson, possibly great grandson of the author of that book.
His parents each had something like 10 siblings and he has something like 60 first cousins. Don’t remember the exact details but they brought it up during the pac12 CG
Interesting. That book came out forever ago and still applicable today.

Who said anything about “office politics”? His boss found issues with him. That’s not success. Nor is not winning and blaming it on not being able to get any of the players you coach to play well.

He had back to back winning seasons (.576). Whatever.

How many times did he make the playoffs?
What is his overall record?

When he interviewed do you think if he said I guarantee success, I’ll be 24-25 in my first 3 seasons with no playoff berths, they would pay him in the back and say, great that’s what we are looking for?

I'm him, I would say I have a 0.667 winning % against the GOAT Coach.

And you think those 6 games add up to success when he was 20-23 against everyone else and never made the playoffs.
So his career in Miami was a success because Damien Harris fumbled in week one.
Don’t think his employer agreed.

Chris Grier stuck a knife in his back... Grier has bungled his way around that front office, unable to forge workable deals with highly talented players, trading away all pro caliber players, making a complete mess with Tua, creating a PR disaster with Watson... and is seemingly willing to trade away the future on a serial sexual assaulter...

BFlo went 10-6 last year with ryan fitzpatrick and a rookie Tua & 9-8 with Tua & jacoby freaking brisette...

The guy is a good coach who absolutely lost his job to office politics

Including this most recent first round … I really thought that Mac or Fields would go there, or that they would trade their spot to a team willing to take them…

I hope the NFL circles agree with your assessment because I would love it if we were able to bring him back and not worry about other potential HC openings.

Maybe, I have no idea. All things considered I thought Culley did a good job.

i think Caserio would want a coach who will help implement the systems, programs, culture, and expectations he has for them as a franchise, and most go with the successful coaches close to them. That said I made that statement ( about MacDaniels) before Flores was fired, and someone here suggested Flores would be a great hire for Caserio, and I agree with that.

Ross cited personality/collaboration issues as cause for his termination. He did not cite wins and losses as the reason.

I'm always going to defend Flo because I think he is a class act and a damn good coach but the jury is still out on how he can collaborate with the offensive side of the locker room.

I’m not assessing him , I’m saying the job he was fired from for performance wasn’t a success.

He implied both. Whatever the reason, his tenure wasn’t a success.

“I mean, I've been looking at this over three years now and watching the organization grow and I think an organization can only function if it's collaborative and it works well together. And I don't think that we were really working well as an organization that it would take to really win consistently at the NFL level.”

...as if Ross knows what that looks like.

You view Ross as credible to pass such judgement. Thats fine.

To me he's nothing of the sort.

But hes the owner and can do whatever he wants.

I wanted him to succeed Belichick before he left for Miami because he had spent so much time learning each aspect of the organization, and I thought he was a very good coach. My mindset hasn’t changed on that, I would bring him back immediately as I think he’s a big asset however you use him, I think the fish made a big mistake by firing him,

Ross’ judgment aside, the point was Flores was hired to coach the dolphins and the result wasn’t SUCCESS, really in no reasonable definition.
I don’t think any owner would make a hire defining the expectations as successful being 24-25, no playoffs and discord among the management team.
