Yeah I'm interested to see what our DL grouping looks like without him. Ekuale?
I would substitute mildly depressed for interested, but it is what it is and the postseason must go on...

The play didn't look that violent to tell you the truth. I thought that DB got the brunt of it.

@Ian - could you make the subject line neutral pending updates? Maybe best not to declare it potentially bad news until we know for sure. The day's been gloomy enough IMO.

I feel, JJ hit at a bone around the knee and it really hurt but he will be fine. I did not see the type of hit that was damaging.
Hope you’re right. That’s what happened to Gronk in 2015 in Denver, I never saw him writhe in pain on the field like he did with that, and that’s saying something for all the injuries he’s had. Wound up not even missing a game.

All garbage time after that 3rd and 8 Tua run. That injury just capped off a bad day. Would totally be ok with the loss in hindsight had that injury not happened. Hoping for a bruise.

Report: Initial exams on Patriots DT Christian Barmore's knee were promising

How long before the “bone on bone” buzzwords are egregiously tossed around by the media.

This was my initial thought as well. It looked like a blunt, bone-on-bone impact, and not a flailing limb where ligaments were compromised. That said, I didn't get a great look at the play and I'm not a doctor. I'd be curious what Rapoport's report is based on, just the x-ray, or additional information. The MRI will finalize the diagnosis, obviously ... fingers crossed it's bruising. If there is a ligament issue, I'll hold out hope for an MCL that doesn't involve the ACL, because those are relatively easy to come back from and shouldn't pose a massive issue from a rehab/future development perspective.

I also have to say that I'm rather disappointed with Reiss' reporting on the matter. Perhaps he has additional information, but if he basing his reaction solely on Barmore's emotional state, I think he went too far in implying (if not explicitly saying) that this is a serious/long-term issue. He should know better than that. (If it turns out he has medical details, then fair enough, but that wasn't the sense I got based on his reporting and as far as we know an MRI hasn't been performed yet).

That was my thought, too. It was a lower body collision, not a twisting injury, so I immediately thought broken bone, but if that were the case, the X-rays would likely have shown it. Still, it could still be anything from a cracked bone that takes him out for a month or so to a dislocated kneecap, which would scare the F out of him but might let him back in there next week, or a bunch of other things, including a PCL tear, which can happen that way and would put him on the shelf for a while. Regardless, I'm sure BB will provide all the details at his Tuesday presser, and clear things up for us so we can focus on Miami.

Promising news, yes. I know personally (multiple knee surgeries, have no ACL in my left leg) that a deep bone bruise on a kneecap can hurt as much as anything. It's a crippling injury for a short time.

Barmore isn't playing next week, I bet, probably not again this year, but if the ligaments are okay, I'll be happy with that. I don't think the Pats are going very far anyway (would love to bet the Bills, though), and that kid has a great, great career ahead of him if he keeps working and can stay healthy.

Agree 100%. What’s good about him usually is that he reports facts. Speculating on how the injury may impact his off-season without knowing anything was lame.

Watching the play, I initially assumed he got the wind knocked out of him with the collision. But it didn't look like his knee twisted in any way. So it may be as other speculated a bone bruise. The bad thing is that Barmore may be unlikely to play on Saturday or even the following game if the Pats advance. The good news is his long term prognosis is better than an offseason of rehabbing.
